You by any chance threw items in the corner of the world or into the borders of the world. If so, its a bug on the crucial list that I discovered. There is a way to remove it tho for the time being if you need some slots

Go to the centre of your world and fill multiple dub chests of dirt. I'd say 10+ double chests. Then break them in quick succession. Do it until it despawns the items

I did multiple tests before and after. And it was consistent

I rum about 5 trials at 30 mins. Double the value then find the average

Not a huge sample but it's consistent
