Yup. Sometimes, even rendered, it doesn't spawn, because it needs to be close. I think the solution is to leave the spawners as close to the y coordinate of the island, leaving the hoppers/chests near the void

I have a mobtrap that is 140 blocks high, and the mobs only spawn when I'm very close, probably because of the height

Whenever I look in the direction of them the number of mobs on screen destroys my fps, its not unbearable but its annoying.

I'm early game so I only have a zombie, skeletons spider mobtrap built, the zombie and skeleton are right next to each other and the spider one is a dozen or so blocks to the left

Both options are good, a large semi-automatic cocoa farm is good (but you have to replant and it’s a pain after a while), melons + silk touch are also good, you don't have to replant but you waste durability, I prefer melons tbh
