if you want a reliable way to kill them all, use a water tunnel pushing them into cactus

Hoppers are incredibly slow. I am assuming they don't continue to move items while offline or when not rendered. Disappointing. I guess I have to sit afk for hours just to let all the items pass through. That or go and retrieve every item myself from every hopper. Kind of makes hoppers unusable. I mean they are usable but it's much quicker to just go back and forth transferring items by hand. I think I rather do that than sit afk to let everything pass through.

If CC SB hoppers move items at a rate of 2.5 items per second,(Pulled from the Minecraft wiki) Then it would take roughly 2.8 hours for all the items to pass through the system I set up.

A large farm. The farm produces about 15 double chest per collection per section. There are 3 sections to the farm. I have two separate chest and hoppers systems for each section on each side of the farm to unload when collecting. The hoppers push everything down to one end so I can collect it all in one place. But if the hoppers take 3 hours per side per section to move all the items I might as well just remove the hoppers and move all items by hand.

Because when harvesting a farm that produces 45 double chests of items I have to put the items somewhere as I am collecting them. So I have a bunch of chests off to the side of the farm to clear my inventory as I am harvesting the farm. I put hoppers under the chest to send all the items to one area. So that afterwards I can retrieve all the items from one or a few locations instead of running back and forth to every single chests. That was the idea anyways. You have to understand it's a really big farm. I guess the alternatives to using hoppers would be to not use hoppers and just run back and forth to every chest, which would be a lot of running. Or another alternative would be to place down a shop, sell my inventory, then dismantle the shop every time my inventory is full which might be the best solution. But if hoppers were faster I would definitely prefer the use of hoppers instead.

Well I am going to ditch the use of hoppers and chests. Hoppers are not fast enough to be useful or practical in the given situation. And without hoppers the chest are not really useful. Placing down a shop, selling, and dismantling the shop is the easiest and simple solution. I think I was just surprised and disappointed when I found out hoppers were not going to work. And by talking about it online I think I was hoping that someone had a solution that I didn't know about. It is what it is. Maybe I should stop and think next time before posting

I don't use afk farms for the same reason I prefer to play survival over creative. That is just my personal preference.

Have you used up all the lava from the nether? If you haven't reached all the nether islands yet you could wait until you progress to get more lava
