They legitimately just killed so much of their java player base with removing Tower Defense. Its the one gamemode that made it stand out from any others and its the ONLY reason I bought Diamond rank a few years ago so I could vote lol. I think there should have been a different approach regarding the update.
I have noticed that most of the rankers, are OG players and those have reasons why they play on cubecraft, instead of other servers.
What I think cubecraft could have done, is doing a survey and ask those players around what they like about cubecraft, why they choose to play on cubecraft (eventually choose to play on cubecraft over other servers) and what those players could suggest, to improve cubecraft.
Those players have a reason why they play on cubecraft and if the higher-ups manage to give newer players to play on cubecraft, I think they would be able to gain more players.

It's easier said than done and my expression here isn't good but the expression of ideas and opinions had never been my forte but I hope you still get it what I mean.

about the PvP aspect, FFA had 3 maps removed, to be more specific, the maps Flowers, Space and Classic were removed.
Classic itself was very popular but the reason for it being removed, is because it was old.
The two Elytra maps were removed, because they weren't popular but I think the wing maps, made FFA on cube unique, since other servers, don't offer Elytra FFA.

on top of that, the removal of those maps was not announced

and many FFA players who learned about it, were unhappy of the removal of these 3 maps

Yeah I'm lucky in the fact that I saw the forum post the day it was put up there, and was able to enjoy TD for the last few days with the time I had; I feel bad for the players who could've been on vacation or busy with school

Then I know some people from the USA, who went back to collegee/school in mid-August but if I am not wrong, holidays are a matter of the state.

The Netherlands had school start on the 5th September.

Then I know some Italians who still have holidays.

For Europe, especially for France, Germany and Poland, school had already started when the updated rolled out and I have seen many polish and german people in FFA or generally on cubecraft.

People who like 1.8 PVP usually. They removed 1.8 PVP. Instead of innovating the server, they removed the existing things. The server has constantly deteriorated in quality and now there is talk of server shutdown.

The highlight of my weekend is often spending time with some of my friends in other timezones. Our absolute favorite way to spend time together, and no I'm not exaggerating, is to get together for a game of tower defense on Cubecraft. Being well coded and balanced, the Cubecraft tower defense gamemode is unique and a breath of fresh air from the tired copy pasted gamemodes. It is, apart from sometimes lucky islands, the only gamemode we play together. I can not even begin to describe the immeasurable disappointment I felt when I logged on only to see that it was no longer there. I understand Cubecraft is trying to save face by having only games with filled lobbies, but that is a poor strategy for progressing. It only serves to deprive players of gamemodes. There is literally nothing unique left on Cubecraft and I have no intention of playing on it anymore. I honestly just came here to complain with full knowledge that the odds of anything coming from this is nothing. I love tower defense and I'd like to see it make a return. Cubecraft should realize that restricting gamemodes for appearances is not going to do any good for them. Furthermore, I don't understand what they see in the newer updates. The new features of recent updates does very little to improve a minigame server. If the management team of this server really wants to gain a new playerbase, they need to have a unique product to offer on a stable platform with a good advertisement campaign. Currently Cubecraft has none of these things. They removed all unique gamemodes, they run on the new combat system which is largely unpopular for PvP, and they do not have any noteworthy advertisement campaigns. If you ask me, this is the worst possible move for them. They turned a slow decline into a shot in the dark.
TLDR: I miss tower defense and the current direction of Cubecraft looks bleak. That's my complaint paragraph.

And it's not as simple as giving out updates to Java if there aren't any players to support those updates 😄 If you wish to play team lucky islands, then you can visit our Bedrock server which has that gamemode.
