Currently, we have 3 standard Enclosure Bonuses ("Bonus/es"):

Shared Dig Site: All species in an enclosure must be found in the same formation.

Shared Region: All species in an enclosure must be located in the same geographical region, outlined by the Paleopedia¹.

Shared Time Period: All species in an enclosure must share a geological time period.

However, you may note a very key caveat: All species in the enclosure must share the criterion, or that Bonus is forfeit. I have considered a few ways to retool this system to breathe fresh life and remove that caveat.

[1] Do away with Shared Dig Site: Doing so allows for more versatility in enclosures, and allows players to mix formations without having to consider the Bonus lost.

#

[2] Remove requirement of All species: Replace this with a scaling, capped Bonus (percentile or otherwise) based on the number of species in the enclosure that meet that shared criterion².

[3] Implement a Bonus for Expansive Habitat: This Bonus would provide additional score for enclosures that are specified magnitudes above what is minimally required, as outlined by the Paleopedia.

These together, and potential further Bonuses, could make the system a lot more welcoming to users, and allow formations with only 1 or 2 species to share in the rewards.

¹Leaellynasaura and Muttaburrasaurus do not provide this Bonus currently. This is possibly due to data structure assigning the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland, respectively, instead of the country Australia as displayed in the Paleopedia.

²In case of ties, do not count both sets.

Immediately against the removal of shared dig site

#

The whole point of that bonus is to reward people wanting to recreate the actual environments these animals were found in

#

It's not a thing you're obligated to do, and it's not meant to be accessible for every animal

#

I see no reason to remove it

#

This just feels like the game equally rewarding basically any mixed species enclosure

#

Which I don't feel is necessary or a good idea, because if you just want to arbitrarily mix a few species, because you feel like it, why does that need to have a tangible benefit aside from "this is what I feel like building today"?

#

If you remove all benefits to keeping animals with shared formations, what's the point of having formations at all? Why not just pick the animals out from a list

Shared digsites is nice to have as a bonus and I don't think the bonus is that good that anybody should feel compelled to absolutely go for it, so having it as an option shouldn't really hamper creativity. But I like the other ideas!
