The sprites look like the s3&k 16bit sprites, despite being on handheld hardware!
And it even has the blue spheres special stages!

sonic cant simply run up the hills, its not boost to win like current modern trash
you need to build up inertia
it also doesnt have a ton of levels, because it doesnt need them
