#Boonta Eve and Beyond: Seven's Podracer MOCs

What an underwhelming message to have be the thousandth message in this channel
well i did a thing
made a submission for a fall-themed event
The Hallow's Eve racer, a podracing spin on the legend of sleepy hollow
May god save your soul if this guy has you in his sights
Something I'm only just realizing
This guy has absolutely no play features
That fin does not stow like an x-wing, the engine has the shape and flaps that would allow the nozzle of an afterburner to change size but that's not possible at two studs across
the cockpit doesn't have any flaps or fins or doohickeys, the pilot doesn't get any screen time and during the race we only see the actual podracer a couple times, none of which feature, like, weapons or something
The only play feature is you can take the pilot out and put him back in, except that's not possible either, because the guy is so ugly that there is no way of approximating him with lego
So like
Yeah, no, he just doesn't get a play feature
Sorry Endecott, you just suck dude
Despite eveerything, this engine is coming along very nicely
Much easier than Guo
well
So far
there are seven things left to do
First, I need to add colour where it is on the model. There's some white sections on the blue and red collars that are rather specific
there's also some detailing on the red collar, notably the power coupling and a vent-llike thing
having the colour overlap the vent pieces is really annoying because those are either just gonna have to be red or white, there's no in between
The four that remain are the biggest issues, and you cn see one of them there
the section between the end of the engine and the red colllar is a dense patch of nothing but greebling
Which would be fine, but unlike with physical moc, I have no way to use whips outside their default orientation
Really wish studio would include a "treat whips like flexible objects" patch in an upcoming update
Maybe there's a mod I can install
the second big problem, and number five on this list is the entire rest of the front half of the engine
That is a single large fin and, while I did get the individual fin to work, this one features much more difficult lines
Notably the thinner edge as seen on the bottom picture
But on top of that, the engine cowling and intake are nightmarish
That is a cone
Ad it is a cone that could have a solution if I had other colours at my disposal
But I do not
So, yeah
Not llooking forward to that honestly
sixth is the entire cockpit
It's pretty compact and blunted, but it has a lot of trusses and small details, so I've got some concerns
it's about five studs tall and eight studs long
Have not calculated width yet but at a gllance it looks like about 6
and finallly
The final and biggest probllem
I am at a complete loss as to how or where to connect it to the stand
luckily it's not going to be so heavy that I can't simply use side attachments
But if the center of mass is forward of the collars, and I suspect it will be, then finding a way to attach it is going to be completely impossible without majour compromises
though it might also be light enough that it ultimately isn't a huge conceren
I suppose we'll see
While I'm not fan of the official sebulba's podracer from lego which uses this technique, at this scale and with this engine I think it does work
I do think I'm going to abandon this thread and move everything over to another server
I mean, I'll leave everything here, I'm just not going to post anything but big updates here I think
Where will you be posting it then? I love seeing this stuff
I'll send the server in dms
So, after a lengthy hiatus I finally decided to kick it into gear and actually finish the technically unfinished ark roose podracer
He was missing his cables and I wasn't able to decide on an anchor design at the time
But, after such a long delay, his podracer is finally complete
Furthermore, I bit the bullet and took a look at the instruction mode in studio, and turns out it's tedious but not terribly difficult
I now have the full instructions for this podracer
My intent is to sell them online, however...
I have no actual idea how stable this thing actually is when constructed from real LEGO
It might help if you kept all the messages in one message.
Great work btw, this 🔥
Thank!
And yeah, I'm pretty bad at being concise generally, and my tendency to break message into smaller parts kind of arises out of that
Like, I will separate individuals trains of thought into unique messages so I don't make one massive incoherently wandering message
I'm almost done with the instructions for Neva Kee, which means we'll find out soon if I will actually be continuing my podracer designing or fading away for another few months
On the subject of Kee, though, I actually got someone with a vested interest in owning an accurate Neva Kee moc to build the test model, so we'll be finding out soon enough just how sturdy it actually is
I also fixed part of the old design, since it was discovered to be illegal
Instructions for Kee are complete, now waiting for the guy who is absolutely desperate to own a Neva Kee MOC of this quality to order parts and do a test build for the damn thing
Also wondering, I want to sell the instructions as a creator, but as a builder I also hate when instructions for cool mocs are behind a paywall, but I also really need money at the moment and could use every penny I get, so I wonder how likely people would be to donate if I list it as free but also put a link to a kofi or a cashapp or something, and if that would even be allowed on the sites where I can sell instructions
In the meantime, Boles Roor engine (singular and lacking mount)
I'm rendering Boles Roor, finished him this morning
holy
I get that the weight is very much at the front but is that really balanced? like, it won't tip over irl
if so that's crazy and amazing
Studio says it won't tip
If I have been lied to one simple change completely fixes the problem
So it's kind of a non-issue
Still need to do a test build, and of course now we're back at the old problem again
No parts
Well, none of the new parts
I might actually be able to do a decent amount of this one but I'm missing some critical elements
Finally finished the cockpit for this podracer, so we have another one done pretty quickly (but if you recall the engines were done like 7 months ago so it wasn't all that fast all things being equal)
Had to increase the size of the pod though, just like I did for Ark Roose, so it's not 100% scale but we'll just say it's minifig scale in one breath and chastise George with the next
