My one friend who isn’t familiar with Ultraman thought he looked like a cross between Roberto and Bender from Futurama.
Which I can see, especially Roberto with that similar binoculars-shaped head with far-apart eyes, and the fact that he did use a knife at one point (the Belialrok knife).

And at first I saw it as a robot frog, the separation behind the shield tile being the mouth and the tile itself being a long tongue. So cute!
