#Placid Firewall issue

If you are using a virtual machine then your local invite link may be completely wrong. We're going to need to do a bit of a dive here. Can you run ipconfig in powershell or cmd for me and screenshot the output
i dont use a vm rn i do use vms generally quite often but im using foundry on my local pc
if you have ever installed one it could be causing foundry to be returning the wrong adapter's address
ok well but its the right one
im pretty sure
but i just need the internet link to get working right? cause the people i will play with wont just be getting into my local network
If local devices can't connect, your router can't either
before we can get your internet link working we need to be able to connect at all. This is our process for getting you access. It's not possible for us to just fix it without knowing where the issue is
Right now the issue lies somewhere at the local machine level
Once we gain access there we may need to do some more with your router, or the UPNP may have already done that for us. We can't tell yet
so what to do now?
do i just send it here in public or dms?
Either. I'll remove the image here once it's not needed
There is nothing sensitive in there
is the address being reported by foundry http://192.168.0.101:30000 ?
yes
Are you in germany?
Run Get-NetConnectionProfile | Select-Object NetworkCategory in Powershell
No
networkcategory is public
Are you on a public network or your home network?
at home
Change it to private
Or do Set-NetConnectionProfile -NetworkCategory Private as long as you are in an admin powershell still
done
Try connecting locally with the phone on Wifi again
It throwing a login screen is sufficient for our purposes
took too long to respond
And the phone is on the same wifi as the hosting computer?
yes
The next step is going to be completely disabling the windows firewall to see if there is a 2nd firewall blocking things. Disable windows defender firewall and try the local invite link again
except it makes a difference if the pc is in there via lan and the phone via wifi
As long as there's only one router, probably not
well, we have 2 in our home network but i think the other "router" is just sth to make sure other parts of the house get internet too
Can you check the wifi IP your phone gets?
On Android it's likely under settings - wifi - your WiFi
its the same ip for both
Humor us please
What do you mean "both internets"?
That IP looks good, so that isn't likely the issue here. Please disable the windows firewall so we can see if that is the issue
you see, we have 2 routers, i think its 2 at least.
1 rounter is on the bottom floor, the other one on the top floor. since its the same ip for both its just device that makes the internet reach the top floor aswell without it being a new router. but idk a lot about networks.
will try deactivating the firewall now
And just to make sure, when/if you ran this, it didn't throw an error and Get-NetConnectionProfile | Select-Object NetworkCategory shows Private now?
Yes it does
Hm, peculiar
Just fyi before turning off the firewall, foundry is allowed in the firewall for private and public, both foundry vtt and foundry ports
Yea, well something is still blocking it
Which is, by experience, either a firewall or antivirus or internet security solution on your device or some very atypical home network configuration
Ive deactivated the firewalls and all it does is: it doesnt take a long time anymore to tell me that the connection was refused. It now instantly does it
Foundry is running?
Yup
Domain, public and private
From the computer hosting foundry does this link work? http://localhost:30000
Yes
Do you have access to another computer that is or can be plugged in by cable to the same router?
Only via a docking station but that should be no problem right?
That should be fine
Can you try connecting from that machine to the local invite link?
Sadly again taking too long to connect so it throws an exception
Then you have a 2nd firewall somewhere blocking the connection
None that i know of.
It's either that or your network forbids your devices from talking to each other
Do you have any anti-malware software or internet security software you installed?
Port forwarding is irrelevant if you can't connect to the local link from another device on your network
Does anyone in your home have access to the PC? Could they have installed some antivirus/network security software?
nope, its my own, living alone. and never installed any av on there
There isn't much we can do if you can't connect to the instance locally. I'd take some time to look through your add/remove programs screen and look up any software that isn't familiar to you and see if it's an AV or network security program
welp thanks then ig not easy to work with foundry 😄
I've never seen this issue that wasn't caused by 3rd party antivirus blocking the connection
I bet as far as the symptons go so far, you can't make any network connection between the two devices
It's not Foundry specific
oh, wait, it did sth. i restarted my router, tried local connect from even a different device and now im getting the login screen
Does the invite menu still show connection closed next to the internet invite link?
Red X
yes
The official website and community for Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
