Oh SHIT yall
Conrats π₯³
just got this, confused what's going on
omggggg
What's going on appears to be AWESOMENESS
Well, I suppose this was inevitable. Good stuff
I am extremely pleased to bring this news. So i'll repost the trailer from our main announcement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6jBbemQdDo
The Foundry Virtual Tabletop team is proud to announce that as a result of our official partnership with Paizo we have the biggest Pathfinder 2E launch on Foundry VTT yet! The Pathfinder Beginner Box is the perfect introduction to Pathfinder for new Gamemasters and players alike. It includes pregenerated characters so you can get started right a...
Congratulations!
i feel like noneyall have finished watching the trailer yet.
so is a thing u can download or? Cause ik there's a pdf convertion mod for pf2e
Looks like we'll be able to purchase pre-made APs that are built for Foundry automatically. Kind of like Roll20 adventures
It seems Abomination Vaults is the AP paizo is using to properly market pf2e to masses
huh, ik i just got the alkenstar AP as soon as hte mod maker isnt gonna support future APs
That module (PDF to Foundry) is no longer being actively developed, but it will still work with all prior released PDFs. Up through Frozen Flame
There are 3 products announced so far, Beginner BOx, Outlaws of Alkenstar, and Abomination Vaults. Once they're available for purchase they'll include high res art and other premium premade assets for Foundry, beyond what the PDFs contain.
gatcha, just got the subscription to get the alkenstar AP to get the book and PDF's
which wont support the alkenstar AP which is a major rip
That is going to be purchasable
If you already own the PDF, you'll be able to purchase the Foundry premium module AP at a discount
You'll be able to get the price of the PDF deducted from the price of the FoundryVTT module when you buy it, so subscribing is still going to pay off for you in the end
https://foundryvtt.com/article/paizo-faq/ You also will get a discount
The official website and community for Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
You guys have no idea how hard it has been for so many people who know about this to keep quiet for as long as we have. I am so pumped to be able to show off the work we've been doing.
All the comments about it for months with people wanting this and I've just been having to bite my tongue.
now i rly need to get a server up for foundry now
You do.
Yeah, I haven't played Pathfinder since the 3.5 -> pathfinder launch. I'll be dipping my toe back in soon
How much of your tongue is left at this point? π
just the T
ik i have a linux PC i been meaning to use as a sever machine but port forwarding is pure pain
Well, we do have #install-and-connection for that.
I'm so happy and excited. I have the biggest grin. π β€οΈ π π
Can't wait to see those tokens up close and personal! ;p
It's awesome too that Paizo is doing this before WotC. Anything that brings Paizo more visibility is a win in my book
I've never been so happy to be wrong.
Like π³
This is the best news EVER. π π
It was really hard not to give anything away on sunday, drew.
secrets, secrets, are no fun
imagine how hard it is not to talk about all our upcoming books, which are universally sexy and incredible
from blog comments "will there be beginner box support?"
haha!
shred NDA's. secrets in the open!!
I can't imagine. π² Y'all got good poker face.
This is incredible. The Outlaws of Alkenstar is the next set my group wants to do, and I figured I'd have to take a while and work it into Foundry. What a coup!
This video has me HYPE AF
well if you insist
The level of detail and degree of quality we're aiming for with these is targetted, explicitly, to make the content something that really can't be experienced in the same way anywhere else.
PDF quality doesn't hold a candle to it.
so happy for foundry well done
I've been helping to get that one off the ground and am blown away by the stuff that's coming. Definitely running it in the future. The journal styling alone is mind blowing in the module.
SO.MUCH.HYPE!!
Yeah, I'm blown away by the quality getting put in. PDF to foundry was great but limited by what could actually be used. This takes it to a whole new level
what a rollercoaster this week, from despair about fryguy moving on to new things, now uncontained excitement about this new partnership
Seriously. Top quality tokens, remade maps in high res, reskinned journals, overhead tiles, script macros, the works.
This is awesome
Be still my beating heart
sips coffee intently
can't wait to read more about this when i get off work
I'll give you all some advice. When the people that would know something is up are not upset and tell you to not be upset. Take that as a hint.
With the help of key people at paizo, we've been able to take the assets to a whole new level- For those who haven't looked at the paizo blog, the screenshots are only representative of an unfinished product and i hope you'll all agree it's already looking good
Amazing work guys! β€οΈ So cool to see where the pf2e system went. π
I think we are all hoping that this is just the beginning of a major snowball for the software at large. Really sick that it starts here
Let's all show paizo it's worth it by paying for these modules
This is the perfect excuse to make my reluctant players finally try pf2e. Starting to get bored with D&D lol.
also where does it show they doing alkenstar ap
Also I'm sorry Syrinscape is involved in this too? The other thing I hear people constantly begging for integration with?
It's in the blog post as well as the reddit post. Here is a sample
It's not really an integration - just asset use. You can read about it in the FAQ
The official website and community for Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
Assumed as much, but still really sick
if i had to guess, they are using syrinscape files with foundry's audio system. Which is going to be a great (and best) way to do it since it could be macro-fied and all sorts of fun stuff. But that doesnt mean there is syrinscape integration for like, normal use
for example if im just building my own world i would still have to make use of the syrinscape module, or utilize my own setup (which i personally run a 2nd discord account and feed the syrinscape audio through that for everyone to hear )
Exceedingly good guess.
curious how much the biginner box version is gonna cost
since i have both pdf and physical version of it
Man, this is so awesome... The bigger FoundryVTT gets, the better!
We're still ironing out pricing, but you will get a discount for owning the PDF version. π
Pricing has not been announced yet, though you will be able to get a discount if you already own the PDF
but will i get a discount if i own the pdf? π
Yes
I'm not sure let me find out if you will get a discount if you own the pdf
you wont, but everyone else will
ya got to love paizo doing actually good things for the community
id love to learn how the automation works. because i watched the intro video and im curious about it
what part in particular?
Very well
how spells get casted and item effects and other things.
holy carp paizo partnership is huge! congrats, can't wait to jump into some 2e games in the future ooooor run my own with foundry now
I wonder if Paizo will make a Foundry subscription. Like I dont like subscription services and never subbed before, but I know that's Paizos model
im not a pf2 player or dm more dnd but i really like atuomation.
Pretty sure a lot of that is the core pf2e system being baller π
thats just how PF2 works
id be curious to try it out
tho need to see how Fa/char creation options from AoN will work with these pre mades
cause i like me FA/ABP
just fine thanks for asking
PF2e made their own active effect esque system from scratch. The first one you see in the video is the TokenLight rule element
Free Archetype and Automatic Bonus Progression are already built in options into the system. Just turn them on and you're done
there's an effect item type that acts as a vehicle for these rule elements, and the spell has an entity link to the effect item type
that's how most of the automation works
cool is it similar to midi qol with fireball and templates?
auto rolling saves and applying damage etc
Basically a spell effect is an item that contains all the necessary automation info on it. When you cast a spell it has a link to the effect and you can drag it to the token to apply it to and it works.
No auto applying damage or rolling saves
We leave that to modules, and no one has written one.
Let's try to keep this thread focused on the partnership and content π the main #pf2e is perfect for this convo
PF2e has a lot of gotchas when it comes to that stuff. Like abilities that change your save value or AC that are reactions
this is true
pf2e have been the best vtt experience for me for a while now, congrats on the huge news!
Will there be a stream with Atropos running the Beginner Box as dm?
There will be a stream, we're still figuring out details but i think Atropos and I will be players rather than either of us GMing
Really excited to see the community enthusiasm in this channel for our announcement - we've been working really hard on this.
ngl seeing the news of pf 2 pdf no longer being suported makes a lot more sence now with this announcement
Thrilling news, congrats to all involved
Sunday tested everyone's lip sealant π€£
The two things are only adjacently related. Fryguy has been planning to step back for a while, and in fact, continued on longer than he intended with the knowledge that this was coming.
It isn't that the module isn't supported, Fryguy has a life outside FVTT π
The module still works just fine! π
now to get off my butt and figure out Foundry
Out of curiosity, will there be official paizo support for the PF2e game system development on foundry then?
and there is always the possibility of another dev stepping up to continue its legacy
There are resources to help with that π
Super, super awesome news today
I hope I can throw @versed steppe under the bus again.
This is so exciting, 100% gonna buy all of Alkenstar as soon as it releases
ik when i have time i need to check out #install-and-connection to get the server up so i can actually have people join my games
The development of the pf2e system will continue as it has been with the same people involved. Now that it's official under Foundry, staff may be a bit more involved but no major changes at all to the direction or anything like that.
tho curious if they plan to do this with the other PF2e AP's
like there's extinction curse and various APs
Only if they like money
*Kromer
From the FAQ:
We are currently committed to producing the three titles mentioned in our announcement (Beginner Box, Outlaws of Alkenstar, and Abomination Vaults). We want the industry-leading adventure content that Paizo is creating for Pathfinder 2e to be available on Foundry Virtual Tabletop - ideally on its initial release date - so that GMs can confidently look forward to running their next adventure in Foundry VTT. Paizo has published a huge catalog of content over the years, and while we want that to eventually be available on Foundry Virtual Tabletop, our efforts will be focused first and foremost on supporting new releases.
Well, they are releasing Vaults for 5e, too so....
Very well deserved partnership! Congrats π
also hype for official support for the pf2e oneshots
Hype >.<
super excited for this. When is the expected release date for the adventures?
it's in the announcment?
We are thrilled to announce the first products launching from this partnership: The Pathfinder Beginner Box - Menace Under Otari is set to arrive on arrive on April 16, with the brand new adventure path Outlaws of Alkenstar - Punks in a Powderkeg arriving on April 27, and the entirety of the expansive and iconic adventure path Abomination Vaults arriving on May 25.
This will all be in V9 right?
Yes, and continuing into V10 when V10 releases.
A twitch live demo (or dev stream on it) would be cool!!
That is planned.
Well, The Paizo staff will be running the beginners box for Beginners box day (regrettably I am unavailable to run the Fountain @versed steppe and @brazen gyro) and I will be streaming a liveplay of Outlaws of Alkenstar for some Paizo Staff biweekly Thursday nights starting in May
plots a murder of one of the paizo staffers to take their place
in the game i hope
sure
Foundry VTT staff will also be running a stream of the beginner box, gonna announce details about that later today. π
Well, I guess I'll have to tryout pf2e and then have to make a sunken cost analysis about 5e after that π€―
That's cool! I may be streaming my Beginner's Box day games too, and you know I'm gonna be using the new awesome product!
The Beginner's box is a great entry point and I bet that we'll be running a few games for people who are interested in trying it out π
As for Sunken Cost Fallacy: 99% of PF2e is freely available
Just the adventures and the art are not.
As a 7 year 5E player, try PF2. Itβs awesome.
The PF2e system has almost 15,000 items in it (actors, items, feats, etc)
not my 5e stuff that I already invested a lot in π
whispers you can play multiple systems π
There is always space for some Mork Borg π
oh my this is some insane news!!
My personal hard drive (aka brain) can only take so much rules π
I promise you itβs not hard. Itβs very intuitive and consistent
All kidding aside, PF2e is an amazing ruleset, and the system in Foundry vtt is an amazing VTT implementation. Well worth trying.
Also, itβs like every other RPG. You will get some rules wrong and your session and story will go along just fine
Let's try to keep this thread focused on the partnership and content π the main pf2e is perfect for this convo
I assume we'll be able to link our foundry and paizo accounts later this month?
Is this going to be like an Account Sync (similar to the patreon sync) with our Paizo accounts to unlock the content? That's the part I'm curious for... or is it going to be akin to the Bounty system? I wanna prepare a video so that when people ask, I have a resource to point them to!
I don't know that but I suspect they will just be on Paizo's site directly.
@marble folio pls come help
At the moment, when you purchase from the paizo store you'll receive a key to unlock the content on FoundryVTT.com -- that isn't anticipated to change UNLESS Atropos gets a sudden stroke of insight and provides a direct API that can be used.
Does this mean that future content will no longer be available for free as before? For example Book of the Dead or something that will be released later. Could it mean that these creatures will no longer be implemented as statblocks because there is a module available?
i was in need of this i am so happy
Got it, so its like the existing Bounty Systems work
So, just need to update that video then
We are explicitly not interfering in the operations of the PF2e system and what content they can provide for free- they know where the boundaries are. Premium content will just elevate that to the next tier.
If someone tries to stop me from adding Book of the Dead to the system they'll hear from my lawyer (my lawyer is just me waving the OGL around a lot).
and all the rules are completely free to get
We like our relationship with the PF2e devs and we think they're doing a damn fine job, it'd be madness to try and sabotage that by trying to tell them what to do. XD
if something is added to the archives of nethys you can bet it will be added to the foundry system at some point
we still get all the statblocks because no module could even try to keep up with the system development and necessary changes π
hey, we have the same lawyer!
Our content works with the system, not against it or in place of it- for instance, the AV release doesn't actually include any new actors. Instead we use the actors that exist in the system already. That means they're guaranteed up to date and working with the latest system features! So there's no incentive or desire to mess with how the system works on that front. We all benefit from the system being great!
Which, iirc, is where the bounties went wrong. Linked to compendia is the way forward
Yup. It's a hassle to set up at first since just grabbing the compendium actors and throwing them in a module compendium is stuipidly easy but it's also a great way to ensure extra work for yourself.
Thank you for the answer. I will probably buy them. But I am glad that I won't be forced to.
Oh I have a question! How will this interface with things like βThe Forge?β Asking for a friendβ¦.. π
It should work like any other premium piece of content on the Forge. You'll need to have the storage space available to install it, but otherwise should work without issue
premium modules on the forge don't count against your quota
Ooooh BABA YAGA this is so gooooood
Here i assumed you had a seat. I am outraged!
TMun didn't want my bullying of him to be caught on camera
Lol
This was why we all wanted it to work this way. But I did the math. If I value myself at $20/hr I can't prep everything for the BB in an hour. Maybe I'd do a good job in 2. But I could NEVER do what @jolly oyster did. All of the sudden this seems VERY cheap
So hyped for this, pdftofoundry was a lifesaver in my SoT game and future APs having content made for digital play is all I could've wished for
Are the maps using Forgotten Adventures assets the ones Narchy did?
they are new ones that narchy does.
For the beginner's box and the AV remake, we hired narchy to make brand new, exclusive maps for us for those products using FA assets under our license with FA.
We will also be including upscaled, high-resolution copies of the original maps, for those who prefer the originals. π
Amazing! My only complaint about Narchys maps for Abomination Vaults was that they didn't have a background and foregroundπ
My only complaint about Narchy's maps is that I'm too stupid to make overhead tiles work
The new remakes will have a background layer, foreground layer, overhead tiles already in place, and let me say: narchy has really outdone himself on the ones we have completed so far.
They look mindblowingly good
The hype is real!!
Yea very cool those new maps of Narchy
Haven't seen maps yet using the foreground layer in such ways
Apart from roofs
PDF to Foundry result from the beginner's box vs the new module
can't go back once I see this XD
You really can't
my own BBox run would ahve been BETTER!
The maps in the beginner's box were really good too.
Those token borders are real yummy
The BB maps were what inspired Narchy to remake the maps for AV and Edgewatch since the AP maps were so bare and low res.
But now Narchy has outdone them entirely and it is a thing of beauty.
That's incredibly beautifull π
Nath really blew me away with his work on the tokens, they're so good!
Congratulations to all the team that has done and keep doing such an amazing job π
Maps in two layers, it's the future. But why not THREE, that's what I say! π
It's what made me re-do all the token for my own games. β€οΈ
Yea I wish you could also choose where the lights layer is located
Or even better two light layers
Pretty
I love that style where the art comes out and over the border
I'd like to see these two on a grid next to each other. Something tells me the one to the left needs fiddling so the rings are the same size on-grid.
Pixel for pixel, the left one is 'bigger' than the other one
You got cat eyes
I really love the popping out of the border look
I'm a cat, so... yes? π
I like top down style tokens as well though
Optical illusion, the rings are the same size
Yes, the rings are the same size
But the token to the left is crowding the one above it in that layout... yes!
Is that a thing you can do? Have an image stretch beyond the 5x5 grid it's in?
Which means that there needs to be some fiddling in Foundry to make the art extend beyond its grid
It sure is.
AFAIK these were all made on the same size canvas (?)
Yeah, scale instead of size
Some tokens deserve a bit more love to really show the art off, so things like dragons, or particularly detailed portraits
If the token is not up-scaled a bit in token config, Foundry will shrink the art down to fit in a single grid square
Ah, and you're comment the other day about the white edges around the creature art now suddenly makes much more sense.
Oughta! XD
im finally home and got to watch the beginner box trailer video and GOD. those maps look amazing. tokens, all of it. so hype.
this is the perfect excuse to push me over the edge to run the beginner box I think
It's worth the run - doubly so once this is released
i have a group of players that are all tentatively interested in PF2e, and while I would've loved to play the system before DM'ing i'll definitely take the plunge yet again in hopes of converting someone π
I was very fortunate to get invited to TMun's Malevolence campaign, and that was my first dive into pf2e.
Since then I've only been a DM, doing one bounty, the beginner box, and now working my way through the Troubles in Otari adventure.
It's a fun system, and like any other system sure you can get bogged down in rules, but if you take it in stride, make on the fly decisions and just look it up later, things will go smooth and everyone will have a good time π
I'm definitely excited for this partnership, and could easily see getting some of the content to run. The quality of the content is just phenomenal.
2e system is just amazing in Foundry, the amazing Maps, art and tokens and the well designed (and linked!) notes are just the cherry on top
I think the big question I have is around where this puts the trajectories of the PF2e system vs Pathfinder Nexus β for as much as we assert that Nexus is not a VTT and v/v, there is still overlap (the compendia, character building, who knows what else). Nothing has been announced on this front that I've missed, right?
On behalf of the PF2e project on Foundry, umm, we don't care about Pathfinder Nexus. It doesn't impact how we develop the system
I honestly don't really know much about it
It is going to be a D&D Beyond-like thing for PF2e?
Don't know what we would integrate between it and Foundry TBH
Character Import : )
Let a module handle it π
We won't do that. They can build and maintain an importer
It has nothing to do with the rules or implementation in the system
That's our focus π
Such a great news. Thanks to everyone involved in that partnership. Looking forward with excitement.
We wish our friends over at Pathfinder Nexus the best, and if they wish to provide some export functionality to integrate, we'd be glad to facilitate talks to explore those those lines.
The amount of excitement surrounding this is tangible. I'm really happy to see so many people pleased with the news.
Great job on the tokens, and especially great job on finding ways to add value to this module (better maps, better tokens, adding sounds, beautiful journals,...). I was afraid that we would get nothing more than what PDF-to-Foundry already gave us (which was already great - thank you Fryguy!) except that we would now have to pay for it... but you found a way to give us a good excuse to be willing to pay for it! π
Nath and staff are smart! S M R T -- SMART!
I am extremely proud to hear you say that, because that is exactly the sentiment we wanted the fan base to have when we decided this was the path.
Well done. (Feel free to snapshot and use it to ask Atropos for a raise ! π )
I mean, only so much I can echo all these sentiments but. They deserve multiple echoes that's for sure. Amazing job everyone, hope it's drinks all around tonight, y'all certainly earned it.
Bit late to the party, but want to extend congratulations to the pf2e devs for making this possible, and getting paizo to the point where I can throw more money at them to get even higher quality content for (one of ) the best system in foundry!
Nah, party all week π
Cries in Agents Of EdgewatchΓΌ
Maybe at some point if these all sell great, but I expect a module of that one to be lower priority.
Just TPK and play AV or OoA instead XD
@astral juniper that's the plan
I think there's some merit in considering the back catalogue of PF2e adventures----but we're a long way out from deciding on other projects to tackle and we want to see how these do first. π
Lookin forward to the Fist of the Ruby Phoenix
Not too late to hope, but I wouldn't go expecting.
impressive stuff I am looking forward to see pricing and a couple of other things ^^..... though it seems that I might have to get used to round tokens, though these ones are quite appealing (I like the effect of Tokens overlapping their ring quite a lot)
β€οΈ
I am still excited about this! Really made my day
Thanks so much for participating! That's amazing
I am so hyped for this partnership! But when I saw that Narchy is making the maps, I just about fell off my chair. I'm currently using their Malevolence maps and they have been phenomenal
We thought so too!
We were really happy to be able to put together and select talented folk from the pf2e community to work with on this. I think that's one of the things that makes me the most happy- being able to see people who've worked for a long time on Pathfinder 2e content for Foundry get rewarded and recognized.
This is such a great community milestone IMO! Devs, artists, the actual Foundry staff + devs, musicians and sound engineers coming together. Edit: Can't forget about the wonderful people at Paizo too!
Really warms my heart π
I just about went crazy trying to align the ||Briarstone Asylum|| map as my first time ever GMing just to realize after 2-3 hours of work that the squares were not actually square
You need a dedicated collection to use them though. For those newer to VTT's, and with less money, side-view tokens are much easier to make.
Trust me, after taking time to upscale some of the maps i can identify with this on a very human level.
Yes. The size a token takes in game in terms of grid space is different from its scale, which can be larger and permits overhang. That's not a PF2 thing -- that's a Foundry thing.
btw know where u got this image from?
Pretty sure it came out of the paizo blog post
No. That one is from Sigil
btw what is Sigil Entertainment Group I have not heard of them before?
the paizo blog shows a different image for alkenstar
Potental spoiler for outlaws of alkenstar
At least its not a Yeast Golem : )
I think that one needs to incorporate at least parts of a beer barrel ^^
I have a few bonus screenshots from Sigil
They make lots of Foundry content. SWADE, for instance
got a link to the Sigil post with the alkenstar post
They've been delightful to work with
fascinating that there are companies specializing for this kind of work, and nice to not see their name attached to a Roll20 module I really had issues with
Since we at Paizo don't have dedicated staff to convert our books to FoundryVTT, and the Foundry team has capacity to work on at max one or two projects at a time, we have hired Sigil to do the conversion for Outlaws of Alkenstar
thanks for the insight Mark ^^
And in all cases, whether FVTT or Sigil---We're focused on contracting from within the PF2e community to get the best quality we can get. π
As Tikael said above, they've been great partners, and we hope these do well enough that we can keep them on contract to do even more work for us down the road
btw are you also to blame praise for the current version of the pregens? because those also look pretty damn neat
They are!
Thatβs Anathemaβs work. Featured in the changelog and video changelog π
that said, yeah pdftoFoundrys token import is neat, but a token pack would still be lovely - in the bottom right are two monsters that are only in the Bestiary cards/pawns and they make not so super great token ^^
I think having the ring in the back is what I needed to get over my thing with round tokens
We know that token packs are likely a means of making some easy money, but want to make sure we're providing a value add over what you can currently get with free tools. Seeing the outpouring of praise for these designs has made me a lot less gun shy about trying some art-only packs down the road.
Indeed! And thank you. I've been considering revisiting them and providing even better versions of them for the beginner box as a kind of 'stretch goal' target.
Iβm declaring that weβre in stretch goal territory now π
They were made as a "If I automate this how long would it take me to generate tokens?" and the first attempts have some rough edges that are "Good enough to release for free" but not "Good enough for a commercial release"
I'll admit some of the tokens are harder to fit suitably than others. Kyra's helm makes me angry XD
However, i had a conversation with @minor inlet the other day about how Kyra has to be like 7 feet tall, so maybe i'll just make a version where she extends outside the grid square
||also curious with the yeast ooze, since it has crit immunity, how does that work||
||lots of enemies already have that, it can be a bit tricky to do because crit effects area bit weird
Though fortunately Foundry's damage cards make it easy to find out what the actual damage should be - you can click on them to see the dice.
This currently comes up a lot with e.g. flaming runes||
||so do u just do normal damage or does a crit turn into a miss or?||
||crit becomes normal||
Not quite. ||immunity to crits means damage doesnβt double but all the other effects that happen on a crit still do happen||
||so something like deadly would still apply||
||Ah so like crit spec and grievous and whatnot, gotcha||
Yep. All of those. Also ||damage that triggers on a crit from runes like persistent fire from flaming runes||
||i don't know why we're all talking in spoiler tags and at this point i'm too afraid to ask.||
Some outlaws of alkenstar spoilers where dropped and figured to spoiler it incase people want to play the AP
||explosive runes||
||where?||
Gets 'em every time π
i have been trolled, but got a nat20 on the reflex save
I just started the beginner box on Sunday with the pdf to foundry 'version'. I'm going to postpone the rest of the game until the Paizo one releases. IT. IS. AWESOME!
π
I absolutely love how the Foundry version of the beginner box will have, not just the tips for beginning GMs and players like the printed version, but also tips for actually using it in Foundry. A great introduction for people who want to run games in Foundry but haven't felt confident enough to do it before.
We thought so too! Tweaking the language to be VTT specific is gonna be a challenge, but i think it'll be a huge boon
||This is supposedly debatable now since How Its Played created a video with|| an alleged, unnamed paizo source ||clarifying that it means no damage effects. But there's no source to that. Is it a future FAQ? Was it from a designer? Who knows!||
Beginner box is a great starting point, and the syrinscape files are pretty great for it. Though i never used the gm text tracks ... feels like I'm cheating if someone else reads those lines!
Personally I'm most excited to see Tmun running the new AP
we're probably not including the GM narrations, so hopefully no one goes looking for them. π
The only complaint I had about the Buhlman box text was that those tracks are super quiet. For the combats, I had to set the volume to 50% in Syrinscape; for the box text, I had to raise it to max and tell the people in the game to be quiet so they could hear it
Hopefully we'll be able to provide a suitable amount of granularity in the sound effects and ambiences to make it a more pleasant experience
I'm pretty excited for all of this. I have been buying everything I can with Paizo art to create tokens/scenes/player handouts with. It will be awsome to have something with all the art, sounds, and effects packaged together.
I would like to know if this would cover foreign languages PDF's to the discount as well, since both Fantasy Grounds and Roll20 ignore the people that get the PDF in their native language instead of directly from Paizo.
In my example, i'm from Brazil, the partnership with the "New Order Editora" has the rights to translate and distribute Paizo Books here, but we are shut down from those kind of initiatives since they only recognize the english versions of the PDF's.
And for those who don't know, our mininum wage is under $1,2/hour
I'm afraid i don't have a clear answer for that, perhaps @astral ivy or @marble folio might have some information.
It may be related to the difference between localized and non-localized content- given localization publishing rights and whatnot.
At least for the brazilian publisher I have direct contact with the owners and I can help to create the bridge for this to become possible
@rough orbit is one of the owners of the Brazilian publisher π§π·
Hi Mark, I think you already replied at the forum π
I answered this question on the Paizo forums, but it comes down to our system not being able to verify ownership of content not purchased on paizo.com. Currently, none of our translation partners sell their material on our site, so the API can't check to see if you own it when determining whether you qualify for a discount or not.
And even if a translation partner were to sell the content on paizo.com, the API would need a complete overhaul to check for ownership of more than one product, as it would be keyed to the English-language version and not multiple different translations.
Samir, i've seen you around in the community for pf2e for quite a while- are you planning to run Beginner's box for beginner's box day?
I'm not, unfortunately =/
I'll be out of home on the day
The Foreign PDF could give a discount to Paizo PDF and from that point on it will work as usual, the only thing that have to be done, is to implement a discount to PDF same way as someone buying from FG/Foundry directly instead from Paizo first
I think that's something to take up with Paizo in more official channels than in here- but if something doesn't work out before release, i'd like to invite you to DM me about it. I keep some personal discretionary funds for people afflicted by unfavourable exchange rates and i remember you from paizocon last year. If something can't be worked out for everyone, I'd at least like to make sure something gets worked out for you.
I agree, just jumping on the hype train and trying to help my community, fortunately I have easy access to the original PDF's but I know it's not the reality from the majority
And thanks for the offer, I'll probably reach out to a new event soon, just need to get my head at the project
The Bulmahn narrations within Syrinscape are oneshots. You can adjust their volume with a seperate volume slider that is just in the bottom right (when using the Fantasy player) or in the upper row (when using the Online player). π Usually you don't have to meddle with the master volume settings.
Hmm... I was using the online player; all of the other oneshots were loud, though. Not sure why those recordings were so quiet
Probable the oneshot volume for the individual soundset track might be set a little low
Have you set this slider to max? The default oneshot volume of all narrations are set to 100%, so this would be the only thing that may be off and causing them to be too soft. I just checked - on my PC the narrations are clearly audible, even during combat moods. π€
No, that slider is set to 50% (the oneshot global effects were deafening). I didn't realize that the narrations were oneshots, but the volume on those is all set to max. I'll play around with it again, especially if I do the BB Day stuff
Searched a bit but couldn't find anything on that: Are there plans to also include other older APs? Cause I'd really like to have a premium version of quest for the frozen flame (motivation to prep anything is incredibly low, but I want to play that AP)
No news on that yet. Future products will depend on how well these do. AV was an obvious starting point, but it's possible that other previous APs or adventures get released depending on the demand
Sounds reasonable if a bit of a shame it started one after the AP I am personally interested in.
Thanks for the quick reply
I might be the only one, but I'm even more excited for the journal than the map. It's a miracle (and a ton of hard work by fryguy) that pdf2foundry was working this well, but he was working within the limitations of the pdf. Having a module built from the ground up with Foundry opens a slew of new possibilities for organisation, cross-linking and other convenience features (and the text styling in the sample looks really neat already).
bruh Im so excited
I cant imagine how much work it was to put this together
I really hope it sells like gangbusters so you all get a return on investment of time and everything
I hope so too- the better it sells the easier it is to do this for more products c:
I'm glad you like the journals- I'd say they're by far the biggest time investment. Note the ones in the trailer are very much unfinished and WIP and we hope to keep improving things right up until release, so they may look quite different in the final version!
This was the BEST news to wake up to!
That's great. I was always annoyed that they don't have links in the PDFs when it would be relatively easy to do
No wonder people keep saying PDFs are worse than real books when they have no features a digital product could provide over a regular book
In fairness, I like table of contents but too many hyperlinks makes reading on mobile a nightmare
Starfinder for life! Oh, just Pathfinder?
For now. The FAQ leaves that as an open question depending on sales π
Check if you app has a "read only" mode. Some do which then deactivates links and stuff
I slept on it, and my excitement has not abated!
is excited
I'm sure others have mentioned it, but one part of all of this I think is quite important - the way all of the parties involved have worked with, and have tended to the relationship with the PF2e community and system developers. It speaks volumes.
I'm hopeful this bleeds over to the other two or at the very least maybe have the art package together for tokens and scenes be generically available for any systems.
Well, art can already be pulled out of one system/module and used elsewhere so... wish granted? π
We're still figuring out how we want to handle token packs long term. Stay tuned for news on that front but it may be a while before we settle on how best to handle it. It's a far more complicated problem than people might think...but Gen's right, just because the pack releases for pf2e doesn't mean you can't have access to the art and sounds and other content in another system, it would just mean a little more manual work for assignment.
Yes, very excited for that in PF2e π I'm going to be ripping out the art and music for my homebrew. I mean I'm hopeful that it does so well we can have the same for the other two systems or maybe it does just well enough the full AP are a lost but art and music is within reason. What I'm trying to say is, I'm super excited about what's coming next.
We all are
TMun: The hype all goes to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Geekswordsman: Oh, I see. And most hype goes up to ten?
TMun: Exactly.
Geekswordsman: Does that mean it's better? Is it any better?
TMun: Well, it's one better, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most VTTs, you know, will be hyping at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your system. Where can you go from there? Where?
Geekswordsman: I don't know.
TMun: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Geekswordsman: Put it up to eleven.
TMun: Eleven. Exactly. One better.
Geekswordsman: Why don't you just make ten better and make ten be the top number and make that a little better?
TMun: [pause] These go to eleven.```

LOVE it
Do we have an idea of when this will be coming out for purchase?
We are thrilled to announce the first products launching from this partnership: The Pathfinder Beginner Box - Menace Under Otari is set to arrive on arrive on April 16, with the brand new adventure path Outlaws of Alkenstar - Punks in a Powderkeg arriving on April 27, and the entirety of the expansive and iconic adventure path Abomination Vaults arriving on May 25.
The beginner box is coming out on the 16th of this month. Outlaws will be on release day for the PDFs, and AV will be on release day for the ... yeah that
With I guess the caveat that those dates for the PDF releases could change if there's some horrible last minute delay to the books.
So I guess it will be similar to like patreon-tied modules? You purchase it on paizo and link your account in FVTT
Buying it on Paizo will give you a code to redeem on the Foundry website.
Man. I am so hyped. Gonna dive right into the beginner box and give it a real thorough read/test. Wanna run it as soon as the opportunity arises
It ticks all the boxes. Art nerd. Programming nerd. Organization. TTRPG. Nice.
I'm super excited about this because - as the forever DM - I can hand one of these modules to a buddy and say "Run this!"
Beginner's Box is great. I have some minor lore gripes with it, but honestly that's about normal for me and reading pre-made modules.
I think as an intro a system it's the best one I've ever seen by far. As an actual adventure, I mean it's literally "hey there's rats in my basement"
It's a good one of those but some bits are real contrived to teach you about certain things. There also (BB and AV spoilers) ||The fact that there's this huge cavern system right next to the ocean and a swamp which is not at all explained until you go through AV and even then only if you read a ton of extra lore||
I'm very interested in seeing how it acts as a "tutorial" for newer players, that's the most intriguing part I think. I've already had my hyperfixation deep dive into the rules myself so I have a solid grip but anyone I bring in would be brand new. Really hyped to test it out eventually
Each room kind of features a new twist on things, slowly introducing new conditions and tactics. I suggest new GMs also model the tactical combat of Pf2e for their players. Some kobolds punching above their weight because they raise shields, flank, take cover, or debuff before attacking can really stress that the system is about tactics more than standing and swinging.
||There's that; the fact that they don't mention in the BB that Tamily has a wooden leg (minor I know), they don't really describe what the fishery is or how it looks at all, the fact that in the maps there's nothing next to the Fishery but underneath to the west there apparently a warehouse?||
So out of curiosity, and maybe no one knows yet, but the discount applied toward the foundry package is only from buying the PDF, right? I was thinking of buying the AV hardcover, and i am not a subscriber so I don't get a free pdf, but i assume that the purchase of the hardcover won't get me a discount. Which is fine! I'm just planning.
That's correct. There is no way for Paizo's AP (which grants the discount) to know that YOU own the PDF. The PDF is locked to your personal account. You could give the Hardcover to someone else. That's their logic...
That makes sense.
Subscribers get the PDF free with the hardcopy at least. Though is the AV re-release even on a subscription line?
It's not included in the subscription.
I mean, the PDF is free if you're a subscriber, but the book isn't part of the subscription.
Hello guys, I dont know if this is known already but super excited to see Abom. Vaults get official support because we decided to start pf2e with this adventure just a couple weeks ago! My idea was to interweave Troubles in Otari, at least at the start. Will it still be possible to use the official Abom. Vaults module and import Troubles in Otari in the same gameworld with foundry2pdf?
Sure. Premium modules are still just modules
amazing, thank you!
this has instantly gotten me 10x as exicted to start pf2e haha
I might draw your attention to the beginner box which, by design, is supposed to get people started and has some links through lore with Abomination Vaults. π
(and is also coming much sooner than abomination vaults. :D)
Yup, I am running a game with BB + AV + Troubles all intertwined.
oh yeah sorry, I am 100% running the beginner box first, and then link it with Troubles in Otari + Abomination vaults. My idea was beginner box - > first adventure of Troubles in Otari (to give them a || base of operations|| ) - > start of Abom. Vaults :>
It works well, just need to watch that XP since there's a ton of it with 3 adventures going on at once.
yeah, not sure if I'll just slow down the xp gain at the start (since we're all new to pf2e, me included, so it wouldnt be too bad of a choice) or adjust the fights to account for higher player level (Im gonna need to adjust them anyway cause I have 6 players)
I had 7 players in AV and it was getting a bit crowded. At 6 now and it's manageable but definitely needs some adjusting. If you want any advice about running all this stuff check out our community discord https://discord.gg/ppKVeV5p it has an AP hub channel with a thread for each AP and the AV thread is full of people who've ran all 3.
I'm a generous GM so i'm the kind to keep the XP the same and let the party absolutely obliterate the first few floors of AV
oh that's amazing, Ill definitely join that, thank you!
@zinc cairn --
an AP hub channel with a thread for each AP
Wherrrre over there? I feel blind because I'm not seeing this π
#ap-hub
Threads for every adventure are contained in that channel
Ah, I had the general category collapsed and there's no new posts on it to make that channel light up. I'll stop derailing now π
Yeah the channel only gets new posts when new APs come out and we make a thread.
Pssst if you enable dev options you can get the id of a channel and post it cross servers (though, they still need to be in the other server for the link to work)
[#891394627544940584](/guild/170995199584108546/channel/891394627544940584/) = #891394627544940584
Our GM did this for AV and it worked great! The Troubles missions were a nice little change of scenery when we needed a break from the dungeon or hit a good break point in the story. They're not quite as good as the main plot, so if you don't feel any of them, feel free to cut them, too, but the first one was especially good.
XP could be a concern done by the book, but because you get less XP if you outlevel an encounter it can theoretically adjust. Our GM just used Milestone though- the sidequests still rewarded us with items and a story to tell, and we never felt like we were levelling too slowly.
I wish I had thought to do this with my current group.
I think I'll look to do it next time I rerun it!
cheers, thank you for the feedback! Definitely going that route :>
tho cant wait to see how these foundry packs will be automated, since there plans to be automated music and the like
I'm really looking forward to seeing this.
There's limits to things like automated music
Scene playlists: easy. Triggered music without modules: hard
And they've already said there'll be no module dependencies
Ambient music tied to each room is easily doable I imagine
Yes. Local audio with audio-blocking walls
But I think when triggers is a part of Foundry that will allow a lot
Can we have an official harrow deck?
Actually i remembered there isn't a pdf release of the deluxe harrow deck so guess not
Would be so cool though
It would be a real fun standalone module that auto drew and helped the GM run it too
We had someone who was interested in making it. I even did up JSONs for it
But they disappeared
Yeah i bought the physical deck, scanned the cards, set up rolltables linked to actors that had an image for each card, and then set up rolltables. This predated the cards implementation in foundry but has been a lot of fun to use but was a lot to set up. A pdf release + module using foundry card system would be really neat.
And yeah i saw that module version. Very cool but similarly still required a bit of setup with getting the images from one of the pf1 harrow Handbook + renaming the images
And never officially released
so any idea when the foundry vtt package for outlaws of alkenstar would be out?
duplicate question - but for anyone else interested: the day that the AP is officially released 27th april
I pulled that off with no modules the first time I attempted it
I couldn't figure out how to get predictable volume levels for everyone, though
so the party got blasted with the mario underworld theme the moment they stepped foot into a cave
Yeah, I had a similar experience, but it was creepy swamp noises blowing themcout instead of Mario music hah
There's some ambient sounds placed, but i explicitly tried to keep the mix somewhat comfortable and less obnoxious. A lot of soundscapes are "too much" to handle
if I fly to Australia can I buy the BB right away?
in all seriousness, I'm looking forward to check out the official BB on Foundry.
Cora and I might be doing an unboxing at <t:1650131100:f> <t:1650131100:R>. Time may be shifted because of release schedules and things...
https://discord.gg/AsT7YgBD?event=964692331376812113
Come see what you're obviously buying!
So where do we actually buy it? From Paizo or Foundry?
Paizo
Thanks. I'm guessing that it won't be available until the 16th American time? π¦
Paizo should just operate off Australian time.... Or NZ time would be even better! :p
Iβm having a helluva time trying to find where to purchase this π
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I canβt find it on either Paizoβs or Foundryβs sites.
not out yet, gonna be a few more hours until release
Ah! Thank you
Weβre aiming for 2pm Eastern, give or take. There will definitely be an announcement!
Seems like a lot of people are hungry for this. (Me included!)
I definitely wonβt probably have a countdown timer on the stream that may or may not have just been spoiled by Atro π
Yes very excited for this release!
Soonβ’οΈ
I'll watch it tomorrow from Europe π¬
have a funny feeling the release will be delayed!??? π¦
But I have my money ready just in case!!!! So ready for this!
hype levels approaching maximum
...
...
...
...

No mentions for this on Foundry or Paizo - hope they get the word out in big announcements - couldnt even find this unboxing
not till 2pm EST
we're planning a silent launch where we don't say anything to anyone
our silent launch will occur in approximately 22 minutes time
followed by an announcement
Im so excited to buy this
Is there a link to buy yet? :)
Thank you. This sure is difficult to buy. Not even sure why I am in a hurry. I'm not even home!
Got it!
done π
Really nice job on this. Looking forward to more, for sure.
Are the new dice so nice Dicefinder textures part of the beginner box module or the pf2e system?
System
As someone who didn't get to watch the reveal video, will it be available to watch later?
It's available to watch now π
Yes, I'm uploading to YouTube now as well. It will be 11 minutes to upload and then a while for YouTube to process the video π
Thank you!
I Would like the link to youtube!
YouTube is doing its thing. Iβll post when itβs done or itβll pop up on our YouTube channel
Grats on a launch! I can't wait to check it out when I'm home
This video is an unboxing of the Beginners Box module now available for sale on the Paizo website! (https://paizo.com/products/btq02d6p/)
Intro Music by Michael Ghelfi Studios used under permission: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDed9jQ1Y1gKeyjvkyFGkCA
Adventure Music Assembled by Foundry Gaming LLC from samples powered by SyrinScape: Becau...
I took Meaghan out for a sushi (very late) lunch so I guess that means the video is done processing
Great stream, you twos
as soon as Paizo fix the issues with the pdf discount being applied, I'm buying this. 10$ is just a no brainer. congrats on the launch!!
So, we get access to the PDF if we don't have it upon purchase?
Yes, when checking out you'll be prompted to add the pdf to your cart for free
It is possible to skip that though so... Don't?
Shoot. I might have missed that somehow. Guess I gotta contact Paizo
lol
I think I missed that, too. It definitely prompted me to add the Foundry module when I had the PDF in for the discounted price. But not the other way around.
Is there a way to fix that yet?
Contact Paizo.
I'd expect they'll have quite a few cases of this kind of thing to sort through on Monday
Where should I raise bug reports with the Beginner Box module? I just found a journal entry with a broken image link
Anathema will set up a space to report issues soon.
is it in the solo adventure?
or better... what is the link?
the image has this path modules/pf2e-beginner-box/assets/artwork-other/symbol-gozreh.png
aaah, that should be modules/pf2e-beginner-box/assets/artwork-other/symbol-gozreh.webp
Somehow it must have gotten skipped in a mass-update after a conversion
Also, no image for Worliwynn the druid on that pond
must be the only NPC mentioned on the beginner box Otari without an image
Yeah, I'm looking in my copy of the BB right now and there is no image for them
That fixed it thanks
Thanks for pointing it out!
will they have one on the Abomination Vaults module? I used Worliwynn as the mentor of my group's gnome druid and an image would be nice to share
I haven't actually looked through AV yet myself; if they have an image for Worliwynn in it then definitely, but if not... Sadly I can't say.
But some quick google seems to suggest there isn't a single official image for her, so... π¦
Yeah, I'm sure you could make a request for it for AV - no guarantees but if they're the only npc missing artwork, maybe they can do something?
I was considering just using Lini's
I'm guessing the torch item is missing a rule element to add the light source? Just tried with one of the iconic pregens and equipping the torch didn't make any difference. Rules Element tab is empty
I believe I recall hearing that's a system thing (because the items and monsters are being imported from the system compendiums) and is being fixed in a pf2e system update
Thankfully, you can drag the Spell Effect: Light onto a token and it will add that effect - though it won't be the torch animation or color.
But hopefully that's fixed soon in the system.
yeah, the magic permanent torch works, but the normal torch does not.
it's fixed on master, just a little white lie until the next release π
Will the effect for a normal torch have the right duration too?
it has a duration?
Things I never noticed because the infinite torch is almost the first item I buy in any adventure...
I should get a dull grey aeon stone with continual flame next time π
Huh, the item description in the compendium is actually missing the duration
Just asking, it would be awesome if the torch effect would auto expire
Official description of a torch (emphasis mine):
"A torch sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius (and dim light to the next 20 feet) for 1 hour. It can be used as an improvised weapon that deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage plus 1 fire damage."
vs Foundry's Description:
"A torch sheds bright light in a 20βfoot radius (and dim light to the next 20 feet). It can be used as an improvised weapon that deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage plus 1 fire damage."
Damnit, copy paste not working
There we go
excellent.
Actually I know that file was there when we were doing QA so thatβs weird
The webp is there, but the journal references it as a png
Right, but the journal was correct in 0.3.0
As in it displayed the art
So it is weird that it changed
The image might have been cached by the browser
Cache doesn't quite make sense, since the journal itself is what was pointing to the .png. Just a strange mystery, but at least it seems to be the only one and easily fixed with a minor patch π
There were three or four links that had to be fixed, that jus wasn't one of them π€·ββοΈ
Congrats on the release all!
figured to ask here but for the Outlaws of alkenstar foundry pack, since we are getting it in parts do I need to create a game for each part of the AP?
it will be a module - so no, you can install them all sequentially in the same world (or at the same time, but that's only for people who actually like reading in foundry.)
Blows my mind on the price ... VERY reasonable.
Especially if you already own the PDF.
Yeah the price for this is fantastic, a lot less than I had expected. Quality of work is fantastic too
For anyone looking for details on how to install the beginners box premium content I made a tutorial: https://youtu.be/rYLiC8ftbOk
This is a 7 minute tutorial on how to buy the beginners box on Paizo.com, where to find the purchased license key, how to add it to your Foundry VTT license, and how to set up Menace under Otari for play.
I'll remind everyone that I am not a professional video maker, so please judge the content more than the video quality, and I'm sure a bit of...
Thanks - the process is very similar to all premium content as far as o can tell. But as shops work a bit different and not all have bought Premium content before I appreciate the video
The map showcasing tiles and lighting and everything is so phenomenal.
I'm blown away.
We don't have art chosen for her yet, but we plan to for AV. She was the only one we couldn't find one for that we liked in time for the BB release.
If/when we have one I suspect we'll be updating the BB to include it too.
Thanks Cora, very much appreciated
No problem β€οΈ I hope we can have that updated soon- while I'm trying to keep on top of bug reports and so on, we're going to be shifting gears back to AV now!
(I saw the missing image you ran into above and fixed it today- it should be on release versions soon)
Just let me know where is the best place to report these kind of things in case I find something else
Anathema is creating a process some time today
Has anybody found a work around for the Paizo store not issuing the PDF discount for the Beginner's Box?
Contact Paizo if they have not fixed it yet.
Probably the best way to go about it
just saw the Pathfinder Beginner Box Weekend Livestream announcement. I know a crossover when I see one XD
π
I'm gonna die π
I taught Cora exactly how to run the beginners box...
