@half kernel let's move this in here

#

Okay

#

Having reviewed the screenshots

#

I have a suspicion about what may have happened

#

I think that at some point you may have installed those modules while Foundry VTT was running as administrator- which prevents you from overwriting or deleting the files

#

When installing a module, if FVTT encounters files that already exist it will attempt to overwrite them- if it cannot, it cancels the install

#

the following steps should resolve this for you

#
  1. press windowskey + R
  2. In the run window, paste: %localappdata%\FoundryVTT\Data\modules
#
  1. Locate the coriolis-core-rules folder and shift-delete it.
  2. Repeat for the vaesen-wicked-secret folder
  3. You should now be able to install the modules in FVTT again
half kernel
#

trying the install now

#

same error

keen cobalt
#

that's....very strange.

#

lemme dig a little deeper

#

And this doesn't occur with any other modules (that you've seen) beyond the free league ones, and only occurs on your local install?

half kernel
#

no

#

This may be extraneous information, but the first occurence of the error came when after I did a fresh install after the first v9.2 patch, and none of the other modules installed at that time had this issue.

keen cobalt
#

currently using 9.255?

half kernel
#

yes. downloaded teh exe this morning

vagrant phoenix
#

Humor me, rename/move that FoundryVTT folder, blank slate as a test.

keen cobalt
#

Spice's guidance is sound and is probably a good test. Just the FoundryVTT/Data folder is sufficient

#

just rename the folder "Data" to "TempData" and we'll rename it back after

vagrant phoenix
#

True, but I wanted to make sure nothing funny was up with the other files/folders.

half kernel
#

Done. Try another install? (and i have no data to protect so feel free to do anything)

keen cobalt
#

Please do

half kernel
#

same error

#

although there are now zip files for both modules

#

...but only because I still had the foundry app up. Went away when I closed the app.

keen cobalt
#

I...don't have a good answer for what would cause this. Try spice's full suggestion- move everything, not just the Data folder

half kernel
#

fresh install to a new location?

keen cobalt
#

Nah, just the %localappdata%\FoundryVTT folder. Shut FVTT down first

half kernel
#

I did try this earlier, and expect to get the same error

#

yes, same error

keen cobalt
#

You mentioned there were zip files for both modules---Where are they located?

half kernel
#

They were located in data/modules, but only as long as the foundryapp remained opened and I couldn't access them (access denied)

keen cobalt
#

When you launch FVTT, you are not launching it as administrator, correct?

half kernel
#

I am not selecting anything. THough it was never an intention to do so, is it possible I hit a setting to always open as admin

keen cobalt
#

Let's check

#

right click the FVTT shortcut you're using to launch and verify it doesn't have compatibility set to "Run this program as an administrator"

half kernel
#

That option is not checked

keen cobalt
#

Well. Let's go find the file they're the error message throws. Navigate to the path given, right click on the file, and go to properties, show me security tab

half kernel
#

that files does not exist

#

however, this is the folder properties

keen cobalt
#

IIRC win10 read-onlies all folders in and under appdata by default

#

but not the files

half kernel
#

That is correct, based on contents of another folder

keen cobalt
#

i'm afraid i don't have an answer for why this is happening on your PC- and i have a meeting looming. I'll ponder it while i'm gone and see if someone else can tag in to assist

half kernel
#

Thanks for your effort on this. I don't have a windows restore point or I'd try that

rich fulcrum
#

What version of windows are you using?

half kernel
#

windows 10 ... home?

rich fulcrum
#

Okay so let’s try one more thing just to see

#

Let’s change the data path for foundry to outside of the app data folder

half kernel
#

I have done that to E: drive

#

Under config tab, correct?

rich fulcrum
#

Yeah

#

And it’s doing the same thing at that path?

half kernel
#

yes

#

let me double-check real quick

#

it's... going further

#

it's writing to a usb, so taking longer

#

successfully installed to E drive.

#

and successfully installed inside game world

rich fulcrum
#

So it's back to a weird permission error. You could set the path to something in the root C drive and it would probably work too

#

Is it a work computer?

half kernel
#

yeah, put it in my documents folder. It's a general use. I'll be getting a proper gaming rig eventually.

rich fulcrum
#

Documents is also user protected which can lead to permission issues

half kernel
#

So this morning when I did everything, it was still my night so there's a chance (pretty good in light of this success) that I forgot to save changes under congifuration

half kernel
#

and it won't run from dropbox I expect?

rich fulcrum
#

Also if you have on drive setup windows tries to sync the documents folder which will cause all kinds of issues

#

Do not place your user data in any location that is automatically synced it will cause all kinds of problems

half kernel
#

i know. so create c:/foundryvtt-data

rich fulcrum
#

That should do it. What do you mean by "general use?" Just a shared family computer? If it's a machine that is used for work then there may be other settings at play also

half kernel
#

Personal use. I don't recall doing anything in particualr, certainly not recent enough to affect the module install
