You would also get our eternal monthlong gratitude!
Wait! Being a patron is supposed to come with gratitude? How much per month? What's it good for? ๐
You get one gratitude per month at our Champion and Hero tiers, and two at our Legend tier. You can redeem one gratitude per day for a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that you helped our dream of being the best VTT possible
giggles
"Some" CSS? I beg to differ
I agree, some is far too much. Best to keep it clean with HTML ๐
'Some' is between 'none' and 'all' the css ๐
Yes, well, you don't get all the CSS, IIRC, just like you don't get all the HTML for journals ๐ ๐
Any CSS is too much. CSS is evil (and necessary, but still evil)
CSS is how you get the prettypretty
Have you seen the premium content for SWADE? No CSS is like not having a lighting system, walls, or fog of war.
ok ok I love you all equally but the league has #752950712098357380 for a reason
Would Advanced Measured Templates handle auras and emanations?
Like in this feature request?
https://gitlab.com/foundrynet/foundryvtt/-/issues/6563
quite probably
I am the wrong person to ask about stuff like that.
Here's the full description of Advanced Measured Templates
The full text of the v10 feature poll, with bulletpoints : #929425351183052951 message
Thanks.
how's the poll going?
Yay! A feature equally usable in all systems is winning.
Fresh update:
almost at 600 votes :o
How many days until the end of the poll?
~9, it ends on Monday the 31st
If someone needs to know when on monday, to cast their vote, they should just vote now. ๐
I think if people refuse to use one browser, they will all the same refuse to install and use player client.
That would be a social problem for the GM to solve
It's a general human nature problem, similar to "universal" charging plugs dilemma. We introduce a universal plug like USB-C to replace all previous plugs, but finish with even more plug types to account becouse there will be still many old devices on a market, using all those previous standards AND the new one on top of that. We may only kindly ask everybody to support the idea and get USB-C compatible device next time. That is why I don't believe any standalone app will really solve this full-compatibility problem.
Honestly, in the case of USB-C it's actually working (slowly). Used to be every laptop had its own unique charger, but these days anything that's not total junk or extremely high performance is using USB Power Delivery. And all but one brand of phone is doing the same...

End of the line! 600 votes and 5 days to go, the poll seems to be settling. Update for all those curious
So 18 votes separate Journal System V2 from Advanced Measured Templates.
Adventure Builder ain't super far behind either!
all hail the new era of journal entries
yeah, and while I don't think it's a perfect predictor
unless something really sexy gets added to the v11 poll we'll probably get advanced measured templates or the adventure builder
I suspect that we'll get at least part of the Adventure stuff regardless of the poll result ๐ค
I'm hoping that one (or both) of those get picked up as the staff-chosen option, though I think the vision modes is a strong contender for that as well
i wouldn't be overly surprised if that gets tapped for addition in a future version anyways
Event Triggers may well be back on the poll in v11, and they've been in the top few for the 0.8 and v9 polls
I highly doubt event triggers are going to be a poll result
i also wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people who voted for journal v2 would also go for the adventure builder/importer if journals wasn't on the menu
(or i may be generalizing my feelings on the matter whooo knoooows)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll be back for V11 (or they might be the core team feature for V11, that wouldn't surprise me either)
brb starting #V10 Patreon Feature Casino
No, it's explicitly not gonna be a V10 thing. Lemme find the reference
whaat
at this time so you're telling me there's a chance
For reference, these are the major things assigned to V10 so far: https://gitlab.com/foundrynet/foundryvtt/-/issues?scope=all&state=opened&milestone_title=Version 10 - Prototype 1&milestone_title=Version 10 - Prototype 2&milestone_title=V10 - Non-prototype intended&label_name[]=Epic
Every release tends to have:
- Something for GMs / Players
- Something for Content Creators / Publishers
- Something for Devs
I would not be surprised (but we have not committed) if our thing for Content Creators / Publishers was Adventure Doc if it didn't win. If it did win, we'd likely do something else as well, who knows tho
I have a hunch that Atro would prefer not to get locked in the canvas mines again
Then again, we do have Secret Fire now
We can lock them into the canvas mines
They;ve got SecretFire for that, just throw him in the mines and watch as he emerges a few months later, simultaneously covered in coal and glowing with a thousand visual effects.
- Something Sweet
- Something to snack on
Damnit, now I want sweet snacks
Rumor is we didn't hire him, Atro simply found him in the Canvas mines...
Alright, now back to on-topic here ๐งน
If something from the "Advanced Measured Templates" makes into the system next update, I would hope it to be linking templates to tokens (auras), integration with target system and restriction by walls would also be nice. As for spell animations - that only provides a bit of visuals, there are other useful options (from my point of view).
I hope the Auras make it as it's something currently missing from core templates
What do you mean about auras? Not being able to attach templates to actors?
Currently the map pin functionality is not very useful for players. I would love to see functions along with Map Journal V2, which would allow players to duplicate pins on canvas and for GM, to change default map pin format (icon picture/size/color, font size/color). There is also this issue when I give players permission to create journal notes and map pins - when they select a note inside a pin configuration window, they can see ALL notes' titles - even those they have no permission to see. As for now, map pins functionality prevents players to get creative with them.
Also, any type of "automatic connectivity" - lines appearing between selected map pins and adjusting dynamically while pins are moved across a scene - would be a nice addon. As for now it is very unconvenient to create a typical mind-map in Foundry - particularly the player-editable one.
Map pins are not really intended as a player tool in the current implementation that is correct. But it would also get very cluttered if every player could make pins as the GM would see every pin
Well, then perhaps some kind of per-scene filter or switch would come in handy. What I am looking for is some way to allow players to organize ideas and information visually, not only inside journal notes, via editing them.
For the moment you'll need to look outside foundry then. (I personally use Obsidian notes for this)
Right i need to vote.... Adventure it is and a secure third place...
As long as that connectivity comes with a dotted red line and a little airplane, so you can do Indiana Jones style travel scenes, I'm game for it. ๐
Does the poll end today?
shows as 2 days left for me so
probably sometime on the 31st
ah, yep
The poll will remain open until Monday, January 31.
Results thus far:
I'm in sunday, MHB is not, this explains the 2|1 days left thing ๐
no one here voting for lighting redone?
roll20 had lighting multipliers
allowing you to give characters with night vision better sight in dark scenes by making all light sources appear as if they were larger
'Lighting redone' is not an option on the list
(oh, apologies, I thought this was another server)
(didn't mean to bring that up here again)
That is what 'Advanced Vision Modes' in this poll covers
Just over three hours left to cast a vote in the poll:
No new votes and the poll is now closed
I wouldn't have predicted Journals winning the poll. Very exciting!
Yeah, IIRC journals had a very low result on the V9 poll, interesting to see that turn around
Disappointing for me... I don't use Journals. ๐ฆ
Not to worry, devs will certainly add at least one other large feature into the mix that didn't win
For some reference, currently Journals V2, Advanced Templates, and Canvas Interaction Tools are all slated in a V10 milestone. Subject to change
Yup, but considering what's already in the v9 code in parts, that's probably Adventure Builder... which is also useless to me. ๐
Do you run purely your own homebrew?
And store your info and notes in some other software?
I run an older-than-current version of a system that hasn't had D&D-style adventure books published for the last three editions (twenty years).
Yup, I have a full-up MediaWiki implementation I use for it.
Adventure document will facilitate sharing content for that system too even if the content is not official.
I voted for vision modes, because it potentially has lots of them.
There's nobody to share it with, because there's no license to do so, which would make it illegal (or at least illicit). Also... less-than-current edition and using a time period for an edition even further back. So... no compatible content anwyay.
Share it with yourself?
To what ends?
Reusing it with a different group or something
Why would I need a Foundry feature for that?
You could also just use it as a way to condense your compendiums tab
How so?
You could put Documents of various types in it.
(imo this is why votes exist democratically - not everyone will use every feature and that's OK! but then that means stuff needs to get prioritized by the diverse needs of the community)
That doesn't seem like a compelling use case.
Certainly... In truth, I'm gently trolling @copper crane a bit. It really is a useless feature to me, and I doubt there's anything that would change that.
I was rooting for advanced templates and don't see myself using Journals as much, but that's OK because it's clear a good number of folks are most strongly interested in better journals because they probably don't have external notes. I use Kanka and don't super need journals, but I do use them and am curious if any of the new features will change how I use them
The only thing I use Journals for is things that trigger via map pins (like MLT teleporters). I don't actually use them to store content.
just looking at it
- I prefer the current editor to markdown in large part because I'm comfortable with html
- custom fonts are neat but not a big deal
- have no idea what to make of the journal overview feature until I see it
- collapsible sections/secrets are already doable
- 'improvements to map notes' is also pretty vague
Ok. No worries. I am trolling you too ๐คฃ
Here's an advantage of those features: if other users (and potential users) like the feature, then there will be more community to make modules and help you out in Discord ๐
That line is amusing, since TJ is already a Helper ๐
honestly for me the biggest ? is how vague the journal overview and map notes bits are.
Helpers still need help occasionally, don't they?
who helps the helpers indeed ๐คฃ
Mmmhmmm. You can't see the Helper room where we provide blankets and teddybears and cookies and cocoa
And module developers are undeniably helping anyone who uses modules
More interesting features = more users = more module developers
Oh... I need help... but not the kind that comes from modules. ๐ I mean, you don't think one gets a purple name if they're normal do you?
Sure. Modules is just an example. There's localizations, content, assets, advice, encouragement, troubleshooting, etc.
Regarding Markdown, their implementation will still be HTML under the hood according to the GitLab issue. It's just recognizing Markdown text patterns and converting them.
Custom fonts will apparently be just a select menu in the TinyMCE toolbar using the existing fonts. I think they are seperately considering bundling a few more fonts with core though.
Either way, truly custom font files will still need to be loaded with my module.
This might be subject to change, but that's what I heard last.
yeah I don't expect Markdown to break anything but I also don't see it adding a ton y'know. Fonts being part of the toolbar makes sense, just also don't see myself using it regardless
I resemble that remark
And your name is purple. That checks out. ๐
I see some feel about journal v2 the way I felt about cards in v9. ๐
As someone who recently decided to use FoundryVTT as campaign manager without reliance on any other external tool (such as OneNote, googledocs, WA, Kanka, ..) for storage of my campaign elements or session notes as I would have done in the past, I'm very happy with the outcome of the vote. ๐
BTW guys, I highly recommend it. Having everything at your fingertips in one single tool is just invaluable.
