Know how to get into your userdata folder?

dusty cosmos
#

'You talking about the Windows directory? ...\AppData\Local\FoundryVTT

graceful dragon
#

Yep

#

And you've got a backup (in-game or elsewhere) of your world in its current un-migrated state, yeah?

dusty cosmos
#

Several on the box and in the cloud.

graceful dragon
#

Good stuff. Okay, steps:

#
  1. Close Foundry if it's open.
  2. Go into Data/worlds/, and then inside your problem world's folder. Then into the data folder in there.
#

Are there just folders in here? Or are there .db files as well?

dusty cosmos
#

in the Windows directory (AppData\Local\FoundryVTT\Data\worlds) there's nothing in there but an old README.txt file.
In [D:\Foundry VTT\Data\worlds\starfinders] there are folders for:assets, data, and packs, and a world.json file.

Okay, so the first path you listed is not your active userdata folder; it's the other one. Ignore the first one, we're working in the second.

dusty cosmos
#

ok

graceful dragon
#

Are there just folders in this world's data folder? Or are there .db files as well?

dusty cosmos
#

Just folders, no .db files

graceful dragon
#

Cool

#

Rename the messages folder to messages-temp, then launch Foundry and try launching the world. Leave this folder window open; we'll be back to it

dusty cosmos
#

Foundry launches ok. The World still hangs trying to migrate.

graceful dragon
#

Mkay. Now we repeat the process with a different folder.

  1. Close Foundry.
  2. Rename items to items-temp
  3. Try a launch.
#

Continue repeating this, temp'ing a new folder each time, until the world successfully launches.

dusty cosmos
#

Both messages and items, or just items?

graceful dragon
#

Leave the ones you've already done as temp for now

dusty cosmos
#

I've done this five times so far, no change. How many re-launches might this take if it's going to work?

graceful dragon
#

It will work immediately when the folder containing the problem has been renamed.

dusty cosmos
#

Ok, I gotcha.

dusty cosmos
#

It was the 'scenes' folder. After it rebuilt that, the world came up. Only it's completely empty now, no actors, or scenes, or anything.

dusty cosmos
#

I restored my last backup, changed scenes to scenes-temp, and re-started. After migrating, I've got everything back except for my scenes, which are all gone. Is there any way to restore these such that they will migrate?

Thanks! I’ll direct our forensics team at this zip. 🙂

Thanks! So do I swap this file in for my current 'scenes' folder?

Success! The one missing scene is no longer necessary, and I am so pleased to have the others back. Thank you so much for your help with this.
