#M&M Shared Server Idea

Hello, all. I have a project in mind to have a Discord server dedicated to a West Marches style campaign where multiple Game Master could run in the same game world setup for Mutants & Masterminds in Foundry where GM's could shared NPC's and Journals through Shared Compendiums and Wiki pages would exist to help coordinated things. This would be essentially like the Freedom City server but less focused on Roll20 and more on Foundry VTT. They have athriving community and frequesnt games and I thought it would be good to have the same for Foundry.

Where an issue arises is the issue of the Game World. Roll20 does have the official Mutants & Masterminds Freedom City game with all of it's intellectual property intact. I want to avoid alienating Green Ronin or any other company as if you build your foundation on IP you don't own,. one cease and desist letter can send it all crashing.

If we use Freedom City, Green Ronin could send a cease and desist having an official contract with Roll20.
If we use Marvel, Marvel may get upset and send a Cease and Desist as they hagve their own game system and may want to ensure their IP goes to the VTT company with the contract they made.
If DC is used, DC may become upset and send a cease and desist.

Image, Valiant, etc.

This why I wanted to start fresh. I have a game world I have been putting together for a while.

I am interested in your imput and more importantly if there are any volunteers who would be willing to run in a West Marches style game of M&M like this in Foundry.

True, but having one server means all the content is ready to go and available. Literally log in and play with no fussing with loading all of the correct compendiums and possibly having links to things that don't work as that was in another compendium peice you overlooked, etc.

We could in all technicality open a t2 micro AWS account, on that level its free for a year for first time users

Well, choose DC and the Marvel people won't want it. Choose DC and the same. And then you run into the same problem with Intellectual Property mentioned above. This was my reason for wanting to start fresh. Would they send a Cease and Desist? Unlikely to be honest as we are in a way promoting their product... but that is no guarantee so the foundation would be as solis as a sand castle and they would be the tide.

but it also depends on the usage and time used

Yikes. I was talking with someone who seemed enthusiastic about using their own server but they have had recently difficulties keeping them busy. I run into several people who seem very enthusiastic but seem to retreat soon after when contemplating the enor mity of the task but it can be done as others like Freedom City have done it.

tbh the easiest and best way would be forge

also forge is cheaper

So I would propose finding 3 more gms and split the server costs

That is doable imo

I use Forge but wanted to have a direct website to have people log into without having to go through the middle man of making an account there and then log in.

Oracle or AWS are the way to go then

Hello everyone, this is a short video on how you can easily set up self-hosting for Foundry VTT using the software ngrok. This solution requires no port forwarding and only requires the software to be present on the host's computer. As a note, before self-hosting you'll want to check the upload speed of your connection. If your upload speed is s...
