#Combat Tracker Documentation

3.3 will have a LOT of improvements focused on the combat tracker, so some of this may be addressed by new features. For example, we've added a context menu action for "redraw card with benny" for owners of combatants
that's nice
That's nice! But wouldn't it be better to make it an extra button? Simply to make the option a bit more accessible? Or even let the players redraw by clicking their existing action card?
And more on the subject: going "on hold" and group by name and make group leaders (add combatants via drag & drop). How to deal with the situation when the group leader is incapacitated a new one has to be assigned
How to add combatants to the tracker
I think they're working or have created a fix for this. I could be mistaken.
That's kind of a core function.
But adding combatants as followers or during an ambush might be warranted
not in 3.3
I like the idea of clicking the card drawn to draw again, but prompt to confirm that was what they wanted to do
make a ticket please, but also please keep in mind this thread IS NOT meant to brainstorm new ideas
Ah, right. Waiting on v12 because of Combatant Documents, right?
this thread exists to figure out what needs to be documented
I think the card redraw ideas came out of what we saw in the screenshot
So if there's already a ticket for that, a link might help, and maybe add the screenshot for context
There is not, that's why I keep saying to make a ticket if you want
I can't make it any clearer than the words "create a ticket"
Literally said, "if there's already a ticket..."
emphasis on "if"
@hot prism since you seem to be working on that feature, do you mind creating a ticket for it with the screenshot above included?
For Combat Tracker documentation, I would say,
- how to group combattants (and what are the advantages of doing so, instead of only putting the leader in the tracker),
- how to redraw card with benny (but this one seems to be covered nicely with new feature),
- how to go on Hold and interrupt.
Those look to be what I explain the most to other SaWo gamemasters.
alright done, MR will be up in a moment
Aside from the things Cyril mentioned: How to set up an ambush.
I really feel that 3 is more of a rules thing than anything else? You just press a button that has a big "Hold" tooltip on it. We can probably change the verbiage but there's not much more to it otherwise
same with interrupting, there's 2 buttons that are fairly clearly labeled. When to press which is really up to the rules
ah that reminds me, I wanted to fix the CSS bug in the ambush window still ๐
I think mostly just "it deserves a subheading pointing out the icons" maybe with an illustrative image
which is the goal of this thread - what should get a text explanation
okay cool
don'tr for get to add all the possible options of what comes next
and the incapacitation toggle
and the context menues
and all the other icons like resetting the action deck
Yeah there's a LOT to do here
but when we have it all documented do we even still need the tooltips?
feels kinda redundant
Overlap is good for documentation
and removing the tooltips would make the template format nicer
except when it drifts
but hey, I'm not a designer after all ๐ ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Yeah, it might be worth including descriptions in the docs for how one might lose a turn while on hold.
It's a rules thing that the combat tracker enforces, but might catch people off guard
Basically the whole Shaken/Stunned while holding thing
Yeah plus that's configurable on AEs
Go nuts I guess
Among the reason to update the docs: They still reference the "Action deck table" ๐
WIP, looking for feedback. The code block at the top is for internal purposes so it loads correctly, that won't display on the wiki/on the actual journal page.
The official implementation of the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition rules for Foundry Virtual Tabletop (http://foundryvtt.com).
made a few more updates, refresh page if you've got it open
Is the update to the turn tracker a configurable feature to turn on/off? If so, maybe that's worth mentioning. Otherwise, i'm excited to see it.
All of the new features are strict improvements, there's nothing new getting added to the settings menu
And like, you don't have to use the Ambush Assistant โ I ran maybe three ambushes in this three year campaign I've been running โ but it's a nice to have
Yeah, i'm definitely not asking for the settings ๐
Just read the docs, they look good. Made me realise how complicated this is, so well done.
Group by name: it says they'll be set as followers, but followers of who? I think it's followers of the one you right-clicked (that's the way it works currently I believe).
Make group leader: what does 'eligible to be a group leader' mean? I thought this was only for changing the group leader. I've grouped combatants before without having to make anyone 'eligible' first.
Remove group leader: what happens to the group? Presumably the same as if they all unfollowed at once.
The rest of it is very clear.
For make group leader, that's if you're not using drag and drop. You can make multiple combatants a group leader, then right click on another to say who to follow.
Yeah need to come up with a better term
I don't know if it needs to be another term. It's just multiple paths to the same destination. The option menu was an alternative for anyone for whom drag and drop might be difficult due to a disability or general hand-eye coordination challenges.
I'm a fan of the idea of "no wrong path"
Oh I mean in terms of phrasing the docs
Ah
is the combatant you've right clicked on a "target"
what do I call the combatant you've just opened the ContextMenu for
Make Group Leader: Set this Combatant as a group leader to which other combatants can be assigned as followers.
the problem is trying to use "selected" and "target" in the context of the combat tracker when there's also stuff that interacts with the Canvas notion of selected/targeted
How's that?
You'd need to update the other descriptions to use "this combatant" as well for consistency
yeah that works
Looks good ๐
My one "would be nice" point ... cross-referenced screen shot of the various points
Does an entry for the option to manually change the Combatant's Action Card need to be added, or is that getting removed as part of the overhaul?
we have not removed it
The update combatant context menu option is core, we just have modified the UI to show card select instead of a number input
now that you mentioned it maybe it would be easier to have that as a seperate entry, just to reassign cards
but likely not part of 3.3.0 anymore
Like a total redistribution?
No, just move the card assign part from the combatant config to a seperate window
And make the option more visible
Would that also allow for things like the Fortune Teller Arcane Background?
that's just gonna be a macro
a really ugly macro, but a macro
If it's core and still available, you might want to include that in the documentation
