I like death stapler proposal. But maybe the picture of the left out cards should be smaller. Maybe... Maybe... it could be in the same message as the chosen card, below the card name, so that it's a single chat entry and does take as much space as today initiative entry. I suppose left out cards from quick and level headed could also display the same way.

Yeah ideally I don't want to take up a lot more space than we currently do. I also want to add a compact version that just has the card name but that's beyond the scope of this

What if the other cards were contained in a collapsed element? You could expand them to see what they were if you really care to know

Otherwise, greyed out with a slightly reduced opacity using CSS filters and displayed in a wrapping row. Hovering over the card increases opacity to 100% and reduces the greyscale to 0%.

Maybe those discarded cards are zoomed in on hover as well, or clicking on them could open them in an image viewer.
