#Malaum DB corruption
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I'm gonna thread this here so somebody that has an idea can pick up
to be very clear in what's happening:
The clean slate data folder works. I install gurps, I create a world and foundry opens.
The moment I copy the data folder in it, no world, new or old, will open.
Then I tried to copy only the "worlds" folder into the data folder. Same thing.
If I copy only the actual world to be backed up (name of the folder is "toril") foundry doesn't even recognize it. It doesn't appear there
I guess because it is still in the 306 one
So, is there a way to downgrade it to 306 to see if I can at least access the things?

ty, I'll recreate as much as possible for my game tomorrow. As much as I can salvage from there the better ^^
Ty so much for the help and the attempt
What you could try is copying individual worlds into empty userdata, would at least show you which ones broken
I have only this one, and it is broken
Alright I have one more idea that I'm not sure how feasible it is at all but it's worth a shot at least I guess
You can try emptying the data, so that foundry runs in the first place, then create an empty world for the system you'll have and one by one copy in the DBs from the old world, until it breaks again
had started that and went by folder.. started with assets.. broke in the first folder
i could try with file by file
The assets already broke it?
Those shouldn't even have a DB that complains about corruption
So, I made the folder brand new, set the files to be there> Foundry blank and new.
Installed gurps, created world. running
Copied the first folder to the world. Stopped running.
First folder was called assets.
I deleted this folder since they were images that I had in my pc.
Tried on the next one that was called data.
Stopped running as well
so I stopped trying there. Data has many folder, I never tried going one by one

Hey, I'm getting caught up here, but I'll see what I can do to help
As a troubleshooting step, let's try to create completely clean data in the locations that are causing the issue
- revert to the clean Foundry Install / clean new world, which seems to be functional
- Create a single blank folder in your destination location called "foo".
- if that still works, let's try a blank new text file named "bar".
also, you mentioned something along the lines of "might be in the 306 one". Do you have more than one installation of Foundry going right now? And sorry if this was posted elsewhere, but is there anything unusual about your configuration (docker, linux, etc).
ah ha, found your initial post that says you are running in ubuntu in an oracle cloud.
Was Foundry perhaps running when you reset the oracle machine in the cloud?
original report for context for anyone else reading:
the original update that you were performing, was it from version 10 to version 11, perhaps?
All of todays troubleshooting steps and results should have been from a clean v11 installation on Malaums local machine with the originally broken userdata from oracle
And respectively clean userdata, etc
thanks
@inland mortar when you get a chance, if you could try the steps here, just as a simple starting point, I'd appreciate it: #1140560513617625109 message
Additionally:
- What upgrade were you performing when the error started occurring? from what oringal Foundry version (exactly) to what newer Foundry version?
- Can you perhaps DM me a zip of the corrupted world, or otherwise (privately) grant me access to it? Thanks
The same error was occurring when I accessed it on the day of the update from 306 to 307 (I think it was 08/08)
I updated it thinking it was going to solve
It didn't make sense since last session was normal. Then I thought something about the instance. That's when I decided to go from zero and at the moment I still haven't been able to get a free one in oracle
Because of that today I did these tests
It's large because of folders with art. 2gb I think
I'll send when I get to my pc
Okay, thanks! I'll take a look and see what I can figure out before referring you to more knowledgable stuff
tried sending and the unrar is larger than 500 mb
is there another way for me to try to send that to you?
There are two folders in the world data folder that only have images
no txt, no json, nothing apart fro it being images
Do I make a zip without those folders and send?
here, can I do this? they're all images in the folder, back to back
like this for the 1st
and the second
yeah, or try to send a zip for each of the subfolder
that worked, thanks!
I'll take a look at this in a few hours or early tomorrow.
ty
Hey! Thanks for the nudge. Sorry about that, I was very recently hired here and it dropped off my radar, sadly. I'll look into this more this morning. I'll have an update for you shortly
ty
just as an update I"m not making much headway here. I'm going to see if any of the more technical staff have any ideas in a meeting in a short while.
How recent is the latest backup you have before this issue occurred?
I didn't have backups
I made a new foundry from zero the other day and I am having weekly backups
Alright. Thanks for the information.
Did you use Foudry in v10 at all? if so, how much have you changed since then?
I've finished my testing and made it available to the dev team. I'll let you know when they've had a chance to look at it
V10 is the one before update correct? I used it a lot.
and your answer is all about the abckup, correct?
"how much have yo changed since then" for the backup? changed what? I'm kinda confused by the question
Sorry for the confusion.
Basically what I was asking is if it would be worth it to you if I try to restore your world to how it was at the time you updated to the latest version, V11
@inland mortar I'm happy to report that we've made some good progress in recovering your data. Atropos has been looking at it personally.
The V10 reversion seems like it will no longer be necessary... I'll hopefully have some more information for you soon
ok, ty so much ^^
@inland mortar Try reopening the world that is having the issues in 11.308. We added automatic data recovery that I believe should at least mostly recover your world. Both Atropos and I were able to open it successfully in 11.308.
you mean I update the foundry in my pc and try it?
Yes, or on your oracle server, whichever
Backup. Your data first as usual though
it worked in my pc, ty so much ^^
Perfect! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.
Thanks for your patience during all this and helping us make it so that this issue should not recur for you or anyone else.
