#Threads for Port forwarding

Thank you honestly.
De nada
Alright, let's just continue under the assumption that the ISP did it right (unfortunately no promises I can make here though)
That's okay - I'm trying to figure out how to do it through my "router" because it's a sspecial router called a Homepass which uses an app.
Have you already checked if a local connection from a different device works?
Can be tested by opening the local invite link Foundry shows on a second device on the same local network
Could be a phone on wifi, or a second computer
Okay - I haven't since my husband tried that in the very beginning before we used Ngrok and before I knew anything about foundry.
So this would be trying to open an invite link say - on my husbands computer - though would it need to be connected to the same router? We have two (original fiber router doesn't have 2.4Ghz wifi band that we needed for our smart lights).
I'm sorry - I'm very unintelligent with this stuff. :/
My Laptop is connected both to the wifi which comes from the 2nd router - and the 1st router via ethernet.
Don't be sorry, nobody was born knowing about networking :p
Thank you!
Breathes
On the second device, type the local link off exactly as you see it, so something like http://192.168.40.XYZ:30000/ replacing XYZ with the appropriate shown number in Foundry of course
(Assuming you havent changed the port Foundry wants to use, but I guess that'd be a no)
(Give me a moment - I just realized my ethernet isn't working from my internet after they reset it.)
Is the other computer connected to the same router as yours via wifi? Then it would currently be easier if you aren't connected to a different router via ethernet
I can connect it to the (Lets call it Homepass [HP] Router and TP LINK) HP router which is the ISPs equipment and fiber line which is currently putting out a wifi signal but nothing through the ethernet.
By it you mean Foundry?
((Thus the TP Link isn't getting net to disperse because it's connected to HP router via ethernet.))
IT = other computer.
Sorry for the non clarification.
So other computer can connect to your Foundry via the local invite link?
Not sure, let me check. Hadn't gotten that far yet. :/
No rush
So to find this I'd launce the Foundry app, log into a game and find the "Invite link"?
The connection has timed out - but I think it was using the port from Ngrok.
Whats the local IP address shown in the Invite link dialog?
Yea I think we changed the port to 30000 for Ngrok
For the local link?
Launch a world, go to the right sidebar under
look for the entry named Invitation Links
That pops up a window containing both a local and an internet invite link
What does it have for the local invite link?
Gee thanks router :')
That's squarely your external IP
Alright, open a powershell again and hold for a second :')
Wouldn't that address change if I changed the port number on the previous picture I sent?
Okay. Will do.
The Port would change, but that's not part of the IP address
Run Get-NetIPAddress | Select-Object IPAddress, InterfaceAlias please and share the results
Fascinating, it actually has that address via Ethernet...
Regardless, try http://192.168.40.58:30000/ on the second device please
Seeing the Foundry login screen is adequate enough for this test
Sweet, so at least there's no other things in terms of firewalls we have to bother with for now
YAY!
Alright, if you'd unplug ethernet you'd still have internet, correct?
Nah, no bother right now, please unplug Ethernet and run the following in Powershell again tracert 8.8.8.8 so I can crystal ball what we need to do next :')
Haven't really groked your network setup yet, this helps
Okay. I have done that already - let me run the command.
I know, but we changed slightly how your computer gets to the internet now
Oh no - sorry I'm bad at speaking sometimes and English IS my first language. I meant I had unplugged the ethernet cable already.
https://192.168.40.1 maybe?
Same response.
Yes. I figured out how to get to "Port Forwarding" following this website.
Sweet, saves me the trouble going looking for that myself 😂
I didn't do anything to it just saw the words and left it.
if it loaded anyway :')
Aw shucks. Lol
Where are you located? Very roughly? US?
Yes, US.
I can Screen cap if it's not loading.
This is all the info on that webpage anyway.
Aye fair enough, thanks
Well, let's do exactly that
I'll feed you things to put
I hope anyway :')
Okay ^_^ Thank you!
I assume/hope in the Advanced settings it offers to create an IP reservation?
I clicked on New IP Reservation > Gives me the option to add manually or shows all of our devices connected to the internet.
Alright, do you find the device where you run FOundry on there?
Where I run it yes - my laptop. Though I don't see my husbands PC on the list.
You intend to continue hosting on your PC though?
Ok, let's get yours hopefully going first and if that works adapt the setup to account for the 2nd host
So select your device first and add/create/save the reservation (whichever the app wants you to do)
Or if you can just select your device and see the "Open Port" option that works as well for us
Okay - I planned on figuring it out with my laptop and replicating it with his PC if possible.
I See...
Nickname: Laptop-4D0F43G8
IP Address: 192.168.40.58
MAC Address: 14:f6:d8:14:fa:4bPort Assignments
"Add A Port Assignment" (Grey - won't let me press it)
Welp
Does that mean they didn't make it where I can port forward with THEIR router? (She wasn't sure)
The app sure as hell thinks you can't then I guess
The router rebooted earlier you said, after your call to the ISP and their promise that you can forward now?
Yes and that's when the ethernet dropped.
I was on the phone with her when she reset it and that's when I ran the second test and posted it in the channel.
I can try resetting it again and see if it needed to be redone again?
Try force closing and restarting the app first
Maybe that needs to be aware of the fact
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
:/
That kinda stonewalls us here :')
Want me to try resetting the whole system now - and failing that calling the ISP back?
I wouldn't bother resetting everything, I'd go straight to the ISP and asking them why their (stupid) app that they shipped with their (stupid) router doesn't think you should be allowed to forward ports which their rep promised you could now
Up to you to leave the parentheses in or not :')
(And yea, I'm very aware this sucks, it generally shouldn't be and isn't this annoying to forward ports)
Lol okay. I'll contact them and respond here when I've got an answer. No worries. Thank you for the help so far.
Anytime
Okay apparently the ISP has to enter the ports that I want to forward - so I've got to tell them the numbers.
Would I be able to use the same thing with my husbands PC or would I need to grab his IP Address as well?
So we can do this all on one phone call :/
Since a port can only be port forwarded once, you'd need to have your husbands Foundry run on a different port than 30000, say 30001 and use that then
So on your husbands Foundry installation you'll want to change this to 30001
Okay
And then have them forward
TCP Port 30001 internal and external to your husbands PC
Which hopefully also has an IP address in the 192.168.40.XYZ range
Do you have access to his machine right now?
Yes. His IP per google is: 64.127.136.185
Please open a powershell on his machine as well and run Get-NetIPAddress | Select-Object IPAddress, InterfaceAlias
If you see an address starting with 192.168.40 have them forward port 30001 to that address
192.168.40.54
Working on getting things fixed with the ISP.
Now they've messed it up where I dont even have internet now 🤦♀️
