#Spring & Etta 2nd Instance
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
@tame quiver @distant summit Pinging you both to pull you in here, it'll make it a little easier to troubleshoot
Spring, go to to foundrydata folder, then from there go to Logs, and drop error.log in here please
Something's likely causing it to error out and shut down
wait out foundry data folder is empty shoot im so sorry
not sure how we made the folder and then didnt fill it
Foundry autopopulates it
Ok, odd
yeah its weird
both the node and the VTT file have stuff in them but thats because we put stuff there
for context, we're on a call and Spring is sharing her screen with me so we can both see what's going on
I think I know what's going on. Since you put it in Program Files, Foundry won't have write access to that.
Cut and paste the Foundry directory to C:, so that it becomes C:\Foundry
Then after it's all moved, try running the .bat file again
you are the most patient IT person on the planet
we got real words this time
Enjoy!
Etta, you'll just enter your license key then, I'll DM you the invitation link to use
I'm happy we got it working for you ๐
rip it's working for both of you but not me I celebrated too soon
it's still giving me unable to connect
oh no yes that link works I'm stupid
we've got it!
Nah, you're learning
yeah I was still trying to do localhost on my browser
yes that works!
thank you so much
No problem
does Spring's computer have to be up and running for me to access that or am I good to go anytime
Ok so it looks like it didnt save any mods/maps she did originally
It'll have to be up and running, and Spring will have to restart that instance of Foundry using the .bat file if their computer restarts
You can copy those over
will they save them for her if she works on it from this link?
Each instance has its own data directory that can't be accessed at the same time by another instance
copy it over how?
Foundry VTT stores User Data separately from the program data in order to keep your games safe from accidental deletion when the program is updating. Depending on operating system, user data is stored in different default locations.
Windows 10 -
%localappdata%\FoundryVTT\
macOS -~/Library/Application Support/FoundryVTT
Linux -~/.local/share/FoundryVTT
From there to C:\Foundry\foundrydata\Data
Well from %localappdata%\FoundryVTT\Data to C:\Foundry\foundrydata\Data
ok so we need to save the user data at the end of each session? and upload it each time?
No, Etta has her own instance, so anytime she logs in, her stuff will save to that instance's data
As far as Foundry is concerned, it's no different than her hosting from her own computer
and when she leaves University and can run foundry normally I can give her the information from the file right?
Yep!
awesome thank you so much!
She'll just need the Data folder, then she'll be set
perfect
Foundry was designed with portability in mind, it's nice ๐
yeah I've swapped between computers before it wasnt too bad
yeah we had just started setting up stuff in the app on my computer but we only did a tiny bit lol so it's fine if I just reset up the game world
thank you again!
I only had like 1 map and 1 token it's no big deal
that was before we realized the IP would be a problem
If you want, you can send it to Spring and she can put it in C:\Foundry\foundrydata\Data
Then just restart that instance and it'll show up
I just set up the game and shared the link with Spring and everything works great!
thank you, you're the best!
No problem, I'm happy to have helped get it working ๐
