Hi there. I'm gonna take a few while i get situated for my day and help you settle this issue out.

fair flame
#

hey hello!

#

thanks a lot

rain blaze
#

I'm coming in part way through so i'll need a few details that you may have already given others, i hope you won't mind

fair flame
#

no problem

rain blaze
#

What OS are you using? (windows 10, windows 11, macOS version, Linux distribution)

fair flame
#

windows 10

rain blaze
#

excellent, and you currently have access to your router settings via browser, correct?

fair flame
#

yes

rain blaze
#

I've found your CGNAT results in our helper logs, and it looks relatively clean so that should be fine

fair flame
#

cool thanks

rain blaze
#

can you open a command prompt and run ipconfig /all and paste a screenshot of the results in here (or in DM to me if you prefer), be sure to include the fields "ipv4 address" (starting with 192.168.1) and "physical address" (a series of letters and numbers separated every two letters by :)

#

secondarily, open a windows 10 Administrator Powershell (you can do this by pressing windows key and typing powershell, right clicking it and choosing 'run as administrator')

in that window run Get-NetConnectionProfile (capitalisation is important) and paste a screenshot of the results in here, it should look like this:

fair flame
#

sorry is in spanish XD

rain blaze
#

no worries

#

i'm not fluent or anything but i can pick out the terms i need to see just fine

fair flame
rain blaze
#

Right, things are looking pretty good.

#

Is your Foundry VTT server running with a world launched at this moment?

fair flame
#

yes

rain blaze
#

Grand. Can you show me a screenshot of the port forwarding rule you have configured on your router?

fair flame
#

the line at the bottom is the portforwarding active

rain blaze
#

Yep. Looks right to me.

#

Okay. If you have a smartphone (or other device connected to the same wifi/network as this computer), can you open a web browser on it and try to access http://192.168.1.101:30000 for me?

fair flame
#

yes this is working

#

this is the local right?

rain blaze
#

Okay. Means your local connection is allowing it through.

#

So we know the problem is something on your router.

#

can you DM me the "internet invitation" link from your Foundry VTT world?

#

i copied it but deleted the post so that others can't see it

#

(we're a big server and this is publicly visible)

fair flame
#

thank you

rain blaze
#

Right, a port scanner has confirmed that this port responds as filtered- meaning your router is preventing connections from passing. This MAY be related to the firewall on it, so let's try something just to confirm

#

in your router security settings look for a section that mentions something like "DMZ"

fair flame
#

yes

#

im in

rain blaze
#

in that field, enter the ip address 192.168.1.101 and save the changes --- we will only be doing this temporarily to confirm that the router is blocking incoming connections

fair flame
rain blaze
#

yes, correct

fair flame
#

in there? do i have to enable DMZ?

rain blaze
#

you'll want to enable the DMZ yes

#

what this does is tells your router to send ANY incoming connections on ANY port to your computer at the ip address 192.168.1.101

#

basically it disables the router firewall for your computer

fair flame
#

im having this message

#

DMZ IP Address is the same with DESKTOP-NRCGS2E

rain blaze
#

Hm. we may need to disable your port-forwarding rule first.

fair flame
#

i deactivated , and still same message

#

done

#

it was that the address was already in a list in the menu

#

so is done

rain blaze
#

that's odd.

#

okay

#

one moment

#

Hm....no still no connection. That's really, really odd. wait one while i check something.

fair flame
#

๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

let activate the port forwarding again

#

let me*

rain blaze
#

hm. address checks out but doesn't align with cgnat test from earlier.

#

interesting.

#

on your router is there a section for "WAN" or "STATUS"?

lofty arch
#

I did say earlier the CGNAT test results were weird ๐Ÿ™‚

rain blaze
#

yeah you did (though i disagree with that assessment)

fair flame
#

yes status

rain blaze
#

in status, does it list the "WAN IP"?

fair flame
#

i have Wan status and wan status IPv6

rain blaze
#

yeah not the ipv6 one

#

the basic "wan status"

#

though i'm starting to form a theory about what's going on here

#

@fair flame --- What kind of internet connection is this? Fibre? Cellular?

fair flame
#

fibre

rain blaze
#

okay, gimme 2m i need to double check something.

trail peak
#

At least im not the only one having troubles with portforwarding :/

rain blaze
fair flame
#

XD dont worry i was expecting something bad

rain blaze
#

The CGNAT results looked clean- but I think your ISP is doing something a bit tricky. They've got your router, somehow, set into a reserved IP for CGNAT, but its outbound connections are routing through a non-CGNAT network, making it appear as though it isn't using CGNAT.

#

You'll note the WAN IPv4 address of your router begins with 100.64

fair flame
#

so is CGNAT

rain blaze
#

but your reported ipv4 public address is 137.220

#

I would recommend contacting your ISP and asking if they can arrange for a public ipv4 address for you, or to take you out of the CGNAT setup they're running. Many ISPs allow this as an opt-in, free of charge...if they try to charge you more than $2 for it, you're better off paying to remote host your FVTT

#

as part of concluding this troubleshooting, you will want to disable the DMZ we set up

#

Sorry we couldn't get you up and running ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

fair flame
#

dont be sorry man , thank you very very much

#

at least i know whats going on

trail peak
#

slightly worried to ask if this might be the same issue going on with me now

#

I was reading everything up to this point to see if im doing something wrong.

bleak prawn
trail peak
#

ah ok

fair flame
#

last question , if this cgnat thing is a matter on IPv4 , can be the connection done using IPv6?

rain blaze
#

we do support ipv6 connections, but all of your users/players would need to have connections that support IPV6.

#

if they all have ipv6 connections, you can provide them with your computers IPV6 address and direct them to connect to:

http://[your:computers:ip:v6:address:here]:30000

including the []

#

your ipv6 address can be found using the ipconfig /all command i provided you earlier - just make sure you're not giving them the 'link local' one

fair flame
#

lets try that

#

yeah i tried with my friend and he is not supported , that makes sense

#

anyway thanks a lot for your help

rain blaze
#

o7 sorry for the trouble, hope you get it sorted out, for 5 pound a month tho i'd probably just host through AWS

#

haha

fair flame
#

yeah im thinking use forge and done!

rain blaze
#

certainly saves a lot of setup headaches

#

anyway i should go review some kb articles. Good luck and i hope it works out!

fair flame
#

yeah totally , thanks a lot man , rally appreciate your help!!!

lofty arch
#

Do you need anything out of here or can I go ahead and close the thread, @fair flame?

fair flame
#

all fine here ! thank you very much
