I found it disconcerting that as soon as I made a template but continued to work on the server's roles and channles it wanted to "Sync" with the template. Banning users deletes their recent messages from x time ago (whichever option you had selected). These are gone for good and not logged by bots unless bot has a log bulk delete option and it was on

If the server offers appeals, then you use that (which is the case here). But generally speaking: no. You can get banned from any server for any reason (within reason) and they don't need to hear you out (even if they have appeals, they can just ignore it / deny it without reason). Server bans are not something Discord handles and can revoke/overrule.
