For example, you create a rules channel and work on all the permissions for the roles (which will probably be to everyone can see but not send a message, including most of the other roles excluding the ones with administrator perms.) Now you want to make an announcement channel where an additional role can send a message and ping everyone/notification roles.

You duplicate the rules channel and then just change the permissions for the role you want to be able to make announcements in the announcement channel.

Don't sync permissions with categories as it does get a little messy but if you want all channels under a single category to be the same, then sure go ahead.

If you grab a channel and put it under a category that syncs its permissions with the channels under it, then the permissions you might have worked on the channel will sync with the category instead of its own.
