I'm not sure what you mean by email, since the 2FA code comes from an authenticator app on your phone. They can access their backup codes in their settings (using their password) and disable 2FA using those, otherwise they'll have to make a ticket regarding a 2FA Lockout through https://dis.gd/support

My son just got his discord account stolen - they hacked his gmail and grabbed his recovery codes, changed the password, and deleted the emails and are holding the account for ransom. All Discord said was "obtain your 2FA from your email." They responded quickly initially, now nothing for hours.

I guess I'm hoping they can see the history of logins from his location, then that someone from Turkey changed everything.

Yes, we immediately went into his Google account and logged all sessions out, then reset everything.

What's weird is it didn't show any foreign sessions, so I think they just got in through an executable on his computer.

We found the executable and removed it, cleaned his machine.

Yikes. He found in his deleted email the trail. It was like four minutes between the time they got the recovery codes and they emailed him for ransom. I think we got it quick, but yeah, surprised they didn't do more.

It was a friend who messaged, said a friend made a new game and could he try it out and review it, it would really help.

There's also very poor user education regarding what staff actually looks like, and the rare likelihood that Discord staff will actually ever acknowledge you even in a public message here, let alone in a DM.

Discord's got a system by which they can send out server announcements. They're very distinct, and have text entry bars that you can't actually respond to. They could easily send out a bulletin to every single user regarding the scam, how it works, and reiterating that you should never change your email to an account you don't control.

The problem is I think most people would still ignore that server announcement.

Any time a scam comes up, they could easilly call it out and squash it via information.

Yeah, maybe if they had a "scam of the week" notice that got sent out, that people would know to look at.

Otherwise, I admit, I get so many emails, notifications, etc. that I tune most of them out.

They could launch a new screen, sort of like patch notes. Localize it to each person's language. Make them type out the phrase "Discord will never ask me to change my email address" in order to keep using the service.

Thing is, these tools that are hacking people's accounts are running up bills on legit users. Bills that get refunded. Refunds aren't free, so this is costing Discord a TON of money in both time and fees.

I don't get why they're not doing more. I sincerely don't know why I'm necessary here.

ADDITIONALLY, if they gave users a grace period by which they can change their emails back after mistakenly changing it to another account, from the original email...

what they're saying is that since gmail.com and googlemail.com are different domains, the accounts count as unique, but go to the same inbox.

• Show screenshots of the hacker using your stolen account to scam your friends.
• Show screenshots of your conversations with the hacker if possible
• Show screenshots of the Discord profile of the hacker
• Show proof that your email is the original one by showing screenshots of your Discord Nitro Payment receipt emails.
• Show a screenshot of an email you received when you first created your Discord account and mention the date of when your account was first created.

Put them all in a zip file and attach it to your Discord Support ticket before submitting
