  If so, I assume you paid for your Nitro through the iOS (iPhone) app right? If so, as Jacob says, you'll need to cancel and then re-subscribe via Discord natively to do what you're trying to do atm

No. Paying for more boosts does not increase the badges evolution. Evolution of the badge is based on time actively boosting a server.

Dtesters was made private to revamp the program and make it more valuable to Discord. You see the desperation from badge hunters, so you can only imagine the flood of low-quality reports people like that would create. They don't want badge hunters at all. Plus keeping it limited makes. It easier to administer NDAs and the like.
