bruh
Bruh, patience, that inactivity happens to all.
Do you have a sketch or something? Very hard to understand from your description
im arguing with the bot sorry
if anything that benchybot is impatient 😤
yeah i think i have an idea of how itll work but too new to model it myself its this, but i want the pins here are for screws, id rather them be snap on kinda thing so i dont have to use screws, just print separately then it just snaps together, also i wanted the half leaf thats considered half of the lid or whatever you wanna call it, id like it to be able to interlap, like 1 us a U shape and the other is a tad smaller and just interlaps but still works perfectly, so it genuinely closes and doesnt have that micro gap if you wanna call it that
may have to adjust the stop for the one side since itll go in a tad farther itll need to retract a tad farther too
im just not cool enough to do it myself i guess, its stressin me out dawg
Erm, one problem at a time.
yes sir
To model some pins for snapping in would be easy, although the pins themselve would be pretty weak. Layer adhesion is always weaker than layer itself. i'd suggest to use heat insert and a screw instead, if you need it to be sturdy
and you want that section to be air tight?
ik the problem im having is i cant use screws on it, i need it to be set together with no screws, i wanna be able to snap it together and it kinda just stay that way even if i cant take it apart, is there any way to get around that just using petg. also the whole thing is meant to twist and it opens the middle, the 2 half circle leaf looking pieces come together fine but i want it so nothing can fall out of it, since just like that itll always have a microgap, so what i was thinking is hollowing one side out a tad then the other half will interlap and go inside it just a little so it has more of a seal
yeah i just watched the attached video and it looks a little weak, im sure theres ways to make it a little stronger
i dont have experience with snap fits so idk how well any of these work, i also dont know how well petg holds up with all that'
Petg is pretty much elastic but after that it just snaps. Last one is pretty weak imo.
what do you recommend, would pla just be better all together
I'd say print the pins as separate parts and snap in in both parts, The pins will be stronger that way
im using fusion rn, is there a better one out there i could use, this ones just awkward
Fusion? Fusion is pretty easy compared to others.
For the lids closing:
add something like this to one side (sketch a shape and then sweep along the edge of a body)
move the lids togeteher, boolen cut out, offset faces a bit, like 0.1mm 0.05mm to have some clearance
so just a thin layer that overlaps the other? is that what that is?
pretty much
just make the sides a bit slanted to make it easier to move apart. This is like 5°
Good idea comes too late, as always: you can make it like 30° slanted to print it out without supports
make this side 30° slanted down and the other side slanted up?
ohhhhhh im tracking now
im still trying to figure out how to fill a hole so itll take me a second
Are you trying to edit stl directly?
yeah, i filled a hole, trying to refine it to get rid of lines, but my combo view is broken, cant toggle it in my panels
apparently even if the history isnt there you can still just delete the hole
im baffled how you did the
Look up sweep function in fusion
i think i gotta scratch that idea, its on the back burner rn, what im trying to do is make a lid thats an inch to an inch and a half wide, and after scaling that contraption to what size i needed the opening, it scales to 3 inches wide and thats way too big
gotta figure out how to put a cap on this on the top, the bottom has a screw on cap, the top i want a lid that is powder/air tight, and is able to open without taking the cap off, kinda what you were helping me work on earlier but way less smaller, and no screws or metal
ik im complicated
idc what it is as long as it opens with a flap or something but doesnt come off, and is small enough to put the whole thing in my pocket
low key if you get something thrown together to work like that, ill throw you some money on cash app or something
why wont the same screw work on the top?
Because I want a flap or something that you dont have to take off. Like a quick release cap I dont want it to leave the bottle if that makes sense

what about stuff like this?
and why no metal?

More contraction, more material cost. All that good stuff
Plus cant take it through a metal detector lol
