#Anet 1.5 firmware LCD2004 help?

Soooo, I had an idea, to make a hot box out of an old Anet A8 printer I was recycling. I mounted the hot block between 2 heat sinks for the heat source. I ran a PID on it to 150 but it stalls at 90, which is good enough. I have a DHT11 hooked to the ystop header to read box temp and humidity. A 2004LCD panel. A small fan above the heater and another small fan mounted into the center of a core to circulate warm dry air through the core (still need to make the extension for that fan). IT's going well! Alas. After I ran the PID I went to flash the Anet 1.5 board and when it did the display went to 2 bars across the screen. I have tried every pin assignment imagineable. I have ran pin checker after pin checker to try to find the ones used for the display. At one point it went from 2 bars to a blank dim, blank screen. I can't find the "Anet A8" libraries any longer as it seems the Anet A8 has been deleted. I am left with using the "Sanguino" board in the IDE. So here I sit! Trying to figure out how to get the display to work. MANY THANKS in ADVANCE! I'll upload pics shortly.

AI Help

It sounds like you are utilizing an Anet A8 3D printer for a unique project. Since the Anet A8 has been discontinued, finding specific resources for it may be challenging. However, since you have switched to the "Sanguino" board in the IDE, you may need to review and possibly modify the firmware to ensure compatibility with your setup.

Regarding the display issue you are facing, it seems like you have tried various pin assignments without success. Double-check your connections and verify if any changes are required in the firmware settings for the display to function correctly with the new board configuration.

Unfortunately, as your project involves repurposing a 3D printer for a different application, and not directly related to traditional 3D printing, it may be beyond the scope of typical 3D printing troubleshooting. I recommend reaching out to forums or communities dedicated to custom 3D printer projects for more specialized assistance. Good luck with your project!

I was given a link to files, alas, they are 1.0. I cannot find the 1.5 files necessarry at all. Does ANYONE have some flash files for an anet 1.5.. Why the F would they delete a repo? GLARG!!!!

Hm

chilly moat
#

I just can't get past the 2 bars in the lcd...

last pulsar
#

Are you aware of this?

last pulsar
# chilly moat

Oh that's just the LCD option need to be ticked on Marlin

last pulsar
chilly moat
#

?? What do you mean? I sent a pic of the display?

last pulsar
#

I want to make sure what it is. Because I think i have a similar one

chilly moat
#

and old LCD2004

last pulsar
#

Wait did you clear eeeprom? Iirc this happened to me on melzi

chilly moat
#

I also have a green one that doesn't say 2004 on hand.

#

yes, I flashed my new code and now I can't get past the bars.

#

I'm using the board to power a dry box.

#

so I had extra redundancy in the code since these are bad boards.

last pulsar
#

Yeah iirc upon compiling firmware, there is an option to clear eeeprom

#

Haven't been on Marlin for ages, so I could be mixing stuff up

#

You can also connect by usb and send the command through Pronterface

chilly moat
#

glarg I could just cry at this point... 4 days of the bars...

last pulsar
chilly moat
#

except, there is no firmware that I can hit any m code on anymore.

#

they do nothing.

last pulsar
#

So nothing flashed at all?

chilly moat
#

my code is flashed onto it.

#

it removed the original code.

#

and someone through it would be a good idea to delete the repo for the anet a8 because it's old.. you know, no one ever uses old stuff... glarg

#

and the code works. I can watch the heater cycle. It just wont display anything.

last pulsar
#

Wait, you modified old anet firmware? Why not just install new version of marlin?

#

This is not the newest, but should flash just fine

last pulsar
chilly moat
#

those marlin config files are for v1 I believe.

#

in 1.5 they changed the lcd settings.

last pulsar
#

Got the link for Anet's old firmware github?

chilly moat
#

It was deleted, removed that the whole problem

last pulsar
#

Wayback machine may have saved the website. If it did you can copy the source code and allow you to complie it

#

But I don't know about this github of Anet's at all

#

Do you know what is it called at least?

chilly moat
#

GRRR! Should be so easy to find the original files for an anet a8 1.5... I really fail to understand why it's so hard when there are thousands of these boards out there.

#

I do not have a link.

last pulsar
chilly moat
#

I know, but there they are. Someone should have an old set of files saved...

#

The 1.0 repo is still there...

#

but the 1.5, when I enter any of the urls into the board manager in IDE, crash at installing the 1.5, because the files are gone.

#

Wayback Machine has not archived that URL.

Click here to search for all archived pages under

#

Wayback machine doesn't have it either 🙁

chilly moat
#

Anyone?

chilly moat
#

can I even get a test script that'll make the lcd flicker? damn....

chilly moat
#

I have ran every pin flicker test you can imagine. I have tickled the hardware registers. nothing but 2 lines....

#

solid. no flicker. Not even able to address the lcd..

#

No one? There's not a soul here who ever flashed an anet A8. All I can get are fire jokes?

#

I just need 1 person who has flashed their anet 1.5. ANYONE?

#

Anet 1.5 firmware LCD2004 help? (it's not for printing so don't come here to tell me about fire)

#

Anet 1.5 firmware LCD2004 help?

chilly moat
#

I just need to see someones config files to see the lcd settings. Sigh...

chilly moat
#

Still hoping

Anyone?

Still looking.

Still looking.. Any help? I just need the config. Not printing with this board so don't worry about fire! A printer board is really just an arduino! I'm using it as such!

chilly moat
#

Who's the file savers here? Who would have archival config files?

Just want to quickly mention in their original state anet a8's were known as a fire hazard.

@chilly moat yo, i know it been a few months, unsure if you've moved to using marlin, but found this potentially helpful info in the config files while working on marlin:

 *
 * NOTE: Requires ADC_KEYPAD_PIN to be assigned to an analog pin.
 * This LCD is known to be susceptible to electrical interference which
 * scrambles the display. Press any button to clear it up.```

it's not much to go on, but try it and see if the display unscrambles?
it could also need a different character set in the firmware maybe? (not sure and by no means an expert)
it's also listed under "Tronxy 20x4 Controller"
