Figured while I was waiting for parts, I start up one of these in case anyone else might be interested. I am planning on converting the Y axis on my E3 to awd/dual motor, and plan on building a heated chamber for it based of Derra's https://discord.com/channels/167661427862142976/1270593788200489043. I already have bought another E3 to use the bed as a chamber heater. I'm not shooting for anything crazy in the high temp department, only upto around 60-65C with what I already have on hand.

Current State of my Ender 3v2
I bought it and it already came with the typical fixes, creality metal tension arm and CR-Touch
I've since added dual z and a tz hotend, dual 4010s, and converted the bowden extruder to direct drive.
The last major thing was I modded the v4.2.2 mainboard to have UART by deleting the screen since its not useable with klipper anyways (was using MRISCOC's build of marlin previously)
Stock Motion System
20,000 Acceleration 400mm/s Speed (absolute hardware limit)
Actual printing saw 10,000 Acceleration 400mm/s

#

this was my usual orca profile, its practically a 1:1 of a bambu a1's speed tab minus the travel speed and first layer, i've since been experimenting and think i've found a new profile thats stable, that being the second image

#

not the extruder T.T

#

out of curiosity how much did u pay for the cr422

native comet
#

For what it's worth it's still able to keep the flow up to 25^3 before the 60w heater has no more give

native comet
rigid parcel
#

ah ye

#

i read modded as bought

native comet
#

Damn it layershifted in the same spot 😂

native comet
#

Went back to stable 10k profile and is fine, gonna hold off on more speed till parts come in hopefully next week

stoic saddle
#

Which could also be a cause of layer shifting

#

Layer shifting is either a belt skip or a motor skip and the layers being wobbly like that tells me your belts are pretty loose

native comet
#

ShockedPiko I'll give them another look at then for tensioning cause it doesn't do the typical motor skip sound

stoic saddle
#

Also underextrusion can contribute a lot to inconsistent layers with the speeds you’re going

#

A Mk8 hotend is not at all designed to push that much plastic

native comet
#

It's a tz

stoic saddle
#

I’d still test it to make sure you’re not underextruding

native comet
#

Sounds good, another thing to look into

stoic saddle
#

You’ll need a pocket scale that can be accurate down to hundredths of a gram

#

But chances are unless you’re cranking the temps on your hotend you’re gonna be underextruding even with a TZ

native comet
#

ah yeah, looks like its time for an extruder upgrade LOL

stoic saddle
#

A direct extruder with a nema 14 definitely wouldn’t be a limiting factor for extrusion

#

Though I guess it is direct drive and doesn’t have a gear ratio for added torque

native comet
#

I'm not entirely sold that the ceramic heater I have is 60w or it's already dying since it has a hard time keeping a flow rate of 12 above 220c, so I've ordered an 80w and a bmg gear set

rigid parcel
#

60W heater is the sweet spot

#

i couldn’t fine one so ended up buying a 80W one

#

but your limitation is probably the extruder there

native comet
#

Gonna build a Sherpa heavy with the gear set when it comes in

#

On that note, is it fine to use round or o shafts for the extruder?

rigid parcel
#

not a clue sry

native comet
#

First goodie to come in from AliExpress comfycozy gonna migrate the x y and extruder to this board

#

Genuinely surprised at how small it is though

native comet
#

Still waiting for screws and the heatset inserts to make Sherpa but I have everything to get started with the motion system and hotend

rigid parcel
#

bmg clone and bmg gears?

native comet
#

Yep

rigid parcel
#

fair

native comet
#

Figured it was worth having a spare while waiting on AliExpress

rigid parcel
#

yeah fair

native comet
#

looks like i have more y travel movement since moving to sensorless homing

rigid parcel
#

i love it

native comet
#

need to figure out what the new middle of bed is

rigid parcel
#

easiest way is to find a corner

#

and the bed is 235x235

native comet
#

ye but now my x axis can sit in front or behind off the bed 😂

rigid parcel
#

nice

#

im missing the back 5-10mm of the bed

native comet
#

needa design an enclosure for the micro4 aswell, it gets toasty pretty quick

rigid parcel
#

oh the board

#

is that ur mcu?

#

bcs its tiny

native comet
#

yeah, gonna be fun designing an ebox for the 2 psu's and 2 mcus

#

It's a mess right now 😭

rigid parcel
#

u doing idex?

native comet
#

not planning on it, just continuing to use the original modded board for true dual z and to use the spare heater bed as a chamber heater

#

i just realized i wont be able to print anything until i can get the micro4 cooled thinkies gonna have to cobble together something

rigid parcel
#

from just looking at the board u might want to cool the back too

#

just a suggestion though

native comet
rigid parcel
#

ok nvm im stupid

#

ignore what i said

#

i thought the drivers were on the back but theyre smaller than i thought

native comet
#

holy crap its 260mm of travel on y now

native comet
#

seems like 20k 500mm/s is working well on the dual extruder motors on y axis, no difference in microsteps after 30 iterations

native comet
native comet
#

Hmm so I'm test fitting the Sherpa heavy and unfortunately it looks like my 42-34 motor is too large to fit as a direct drive extruder and severely limits my x axis and z axis movement, and I don't feel like spending more money on another motor, so I think I'll revert back to a Bowden setup

#

I could flip it so the motor is on the front but I don't know how wobbly it'll get being unsupported

native comet
#

This feels like it'd be terrible for input shaping lol

stoic saddle
#

Sherpa heavy is the kinda thing you use when you have a super rigid printer that can handle that much weight and needs it to push a ton of plastic

#

Something like a Sherpa mini would have been plenty

native comet
#

It's just what I have on hand

native comet
#

NVM the tolerances on my extruder housing sucks, gonna use the spare bmg I got an do Bowden for the time being

native comet
#

i think thats the fastest ive ever done a pid tune on the hotend thinkies 80w heater go brrrr

#

dont mind the temps on the left of the graph, had a kink on the thermistor

native comet
#

What I want to do next is design the enclosures for the two main boards and power supplies so I can clean up the wiring cause it is an absolute dumpster fire right now

#

I also should probably tape the 5v pin on the cable going to the micro4 because I think it also suffers from the same issue as the v4 board does with power back feeding through the USB port

stoic saddle
#

You want it as short as possible for full travel

native comet
#

aye aye captain

native comet
#

Need to dry my petg again but hey the overhangs don't look too bad for 270c

native comet
#

i was unaware that i could just clamp the bmg onto a v6 hotend, my tz e3 comes with a voron/v6 collet feelssobman im already done calibrating, but i'll still run with the bowden for now since i need to print parts

native comet
#

Y motors don't like 1.2 run current for prolonged use :( gonna back em down to 1a and see what the new max acceleration and speed is

native comet
#

This is just some late night thinking, while I do have the means to get this project done, I don't have the space or time while in uni so I think I'll put the enclosure on hold for now (or be more reasonable and just buy a abs capable printer like a q1p or q2). What I think I would like to do is leave my v2 as it is after cleaning her wiring up a bit and designing a new integrated electronics enclosure that'll sit between the extrusions like the original one but account for my extra mainboard and return the power supply to its original location. Besides my time holding me back from committing to the projects I also have my safety concerns and the safety of those around me. So with that in mind I'll be changing this to just outfitting my budget e3v2 and I would like to resurrect the e3 pro I got for parts so I would at least have 2 printers (kind of miss having a spare printer lol) so here is the shell of what I'll try and get up and running after wrapping up the v2

native comet
native comet
#

NVM I just had to print slightly slower or faster, I'm deducing I was hitting the frame reasonance at around 60-70mm/s

stoic saddle
#

Not frame resonance

native comet
#

Oh I see, what's the best course of action to remedy this?

stoic saddle
#

Use Klippain shake and tune for belt resonances

native comet
#

Thanks, I'll get that installed and see how it goes

native comet
#

the awd y has been fun and all but my gt2 belt clamps keep bending out of shape and its a pita removing the bed to change them out and retramming, highly considering going back to 1 motor y

#

ive also noticed the rear half of the belt isnt as well tensioned as the front thinkies

#

i have 0 cad experience but im figuring stuff out as i go: trying to make an electronics box to sit on the power supply

native comet
#

oh nice lol, i guess i'll only have to do the mainboard frames then

#

thanks

native comet
#

Also slowly chipping away at the e3pro klackender is built and bmg DD, waiting on mainboard and belted z, still need to print tensioners for this one

native comet
#

o i appreaciate it but i need to learn some cad at some point so this makes for a good project haha

native comet
#

Yeah gonna go back to single motor for now, at least until I can maybe get some abs? These don't like me haha

#

That does mean I can run a 42-40 on the e3p though so yay? LOL

brave coral
#

this one works very well

#

never had a belt slip out of it before

#

the belt will snap first

native comet
#

Oh neato, I'll save this for when I can bring the awd back then cause man I went through 4 pairs already just trying to print things for the other ender lol

#

oh wait im gonna need it anyways for the e3p vaulthah i'll print these as soon as i get the v2 reconfigured

#

wait, this is kind of interesting, single motor y with the 42-40 as of right now anyways, seems to run cooler at the same amps (1.1a), and is yielding the same 15k accels i was already running thinkies

#

alright now back to printing the frankenstein toolhead

#

also need to trim my carriage plate again for clearance

brave coral
native comet
#

yeah

#

using the stock motor mount

brave coral
#

I guess that's one way to do it

native comet
#

I am going to swap the 80w heater into my tz v6, getting cold core extrusion on the tz e3 3.0 even at 300c lol, have an mze plus on the way

native comet
#

I did some dinking around with the v2 since I'm tearing the hotend down to use the parts for the pro, I gave tmc "autotune" a try, looks like it just has presets based on motor specs but they seem to do a good enough job. Motors are running cooler and able to sustain slightly higher accels, but it's also a cold night. Gonna give err the beans again tmr and continue prepping the pro because I believe most of my parts should show up this weekend (hopefully)

native comet
#

okay, im not savvy enough to look through the tmc autotuning to further refine it but dang thinkies the v2 is pulling 35k accel and not even sweating lol

#

kind of makes me want to pick up another tz v6 and mze for this one now that i know its quick

rigid parcel
#

nvm im not the probe mount is super ide and the dock is weird

native comet
#

Oh I'll get your version printed then

#

In other news tho mk8 is out and frank toolhead is in

rigid parcel
#

🔥

rigid parcel
native comet
#

The last pieces of the puzzle to get the pro running again are here yay

native comet
#

Hopefully not too much of an issue since it's on z but damn

stoic saddle
#

I mean it would cause banding to some degree

#

Due to the inconsistent Z movement

#

It would cause every rotation to wave back and forth between too much and too little squish

brave coral
#

how did this happen

native comet
#

I'll swap in another motor when I have time, just gonna yolo for now cause I wanna see what the x and y motors are capable of

native comet
#

Looked back at the build guide and they mentioned 20t gears being able to work just needed to adjust the gear ratio, luckily my old y axis motor with the press fit pulley fits

native comet
#

Need to see why fans aren't spinning before I pid tune but everything seems to be working as intended

#

oops fans were an easy fix, i pinned them in reverse

#

before i do anything else, im gonna put this neatly away and print out that ebox enclosure

native comet
#

I swapped the v2 back to a 0.4mm nozzle from the 0.6mm for noise reasons (was in the reasonance zone) and man I am tempted to get another tz v6 cause she eats
petg 280c, 15mm³, top accel of 15k but she can get up to 35k

#

Oh and she's printing the ebox for the pro

#

Really hoping the motors on the pro are similar otherwise I'ma swap them since the pro is getting the mze plus

rigid parcel
#

stinger ebox?

native comet
#

The one you sent, churl's LRS ebox

rigid parcel
#

oh

#

the cable channels looked simmilar to stinger and my new ebox so was a bit confused for a sec

native comet
#

The micro so smol in this ebox lol

native comet
#

Mze+ is here also grabbed a mk8 cht nozzle for the s1 while I was at it

native comet
#

looks like ive gotten lucky, the motors on the e3p also like 35k accel as their max

#

need to print out the extended klack mounts and should be good to start ripping around, in the mean time, the v2 is gonna be printing its own ebox now

native comet
#

I don't think my nas likes me, keep getting mcu timeout when tryna run jobs on both printers at the same time

native comet
#

Still need to put together the ebox for v2, it's already printed but had a rush job come in
The pro is currently running without the mze cause I've been busy, but it's nice to see it keeps up with the v2 with only minor tweaks to pressure advance
