#Strange Z-offset behavior with .2mm nozzle in orca slicer

So first time using a .2mm nozzle. Im doing the calibrations and noticed that first layer wasn't printing (it was scraping the plate) so ran some z-offset calibrations but I've noticed that on a single layer square when I apply z-offset in Orca the first layer wall is being printed at a different z to the infill... So the infill is printing fine but the wall is not. In the slicer I can see the layer being split into 2 parts, the wall and then the infill.

  • z-offset is set to 0.1mm in the printer settings
  • video attached showing the weird behaviour in the slicer, you can see the wall step shows a Z coord of 0 but the infill is 0.1, if I increase the z-offset to .2 the infill still shows .1 in the slicer but the wall goes to -0.1

any help figuring this out would be appreciated!

It sounds like you may be experiencing an issue with your slicer settings or firmware configurations. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot this problem:

  1. Double-check your printer settings in the slicer software to ensure that the initial layer height and first layer thickness are correctly configured for the 0.2mm nozzle.
  2. Verify that your printer firmware is up to date and properly calibrated for the smaller nozzle size.
  3. Check the z-offset settings in your printer's firmware to ensure they match with the values you've set in the slicer software.
  4. Consider adjusting the z-hop settings in your slicer to prevent the nozzle from dragging or scraping on the print surface.
  5. If the issue persists, try generating the G-code with a different slicer software to see if the problem is specific to the current slicer you are using.

If the issue continues after trying these steps, it may be helpful to reach out to the manufacturer of your printer or the community forums ...
