(Mainboard: MKS Robin Nano_DW v2.2).

Background

Printer has no display, firmware Klipper

During initial setup an uncontrolled heating event occurred:

Heated bed reached ~100 °C

Hotend was actively melting filament

Printer was powered off immediately

After that, the printer no longer starts

Symptoms

PSU goes into protection mode when the mainboard is connected

PSU starts normally with the board disconnected

No LED activity on the board

Diagnostics

Short circuit detected on the mainboard power rail

Tested with a completely “bare” board (no bed / hotend / motors) → short remains

MOSFET check revealed a failed MOSFET: G024N03 / HYG024N03LR1P

After desoldering this MOSFET, the board powers up correctly via USB

After partial reassembly

X and Y axes work

Z axis does not move

Hotend checks

Thermistor is OK

Heater cartridge resistance is ~4 Ω higher than nominal, no short to корпус (ground)

Questions

What would be a proper replacement / equivalent MOSFET for G024N03 (Rds(on), Id, Vgs)?

What load does this MOSFET control on this board (bed / hotend / fan / auxiliary)?

Could a MOSFET failure like this damage the Z-axis stepper driver?

What is the correct way to diagnose a TMC Z driver without a board schematic?

Any guidance is appreciated. I can provide photos of the board and the failed MOSFET area if needed.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with your printer. It seems like you have done a thorough job diagnosing the problem. Here are some suggestions to help you with your questions:

  1. Replacement MOSFET for G024N03: To find an equivalent replacement MOSFET for the G024N03, you can look for a MOSFET with similar specifications in terms of Rds(on), Id, and Vgs. It's important to match these specifications as closely as possible to ensure compatibility with your mainboard.

  2. Load controlled by the MOSFET: Without the specific schematic of your mainboard, it can be challenging to determine the exact load controlled by the failed MOSFET. Typically, MOSFETs on 3D printer mainboards are used to control the hotend heater or the heated bed. You may need to consult the board's documentation or reach out to the manufacturer for more information.

  3. Damage to Z-axis stepper driver: It is possible that a MOSFET failure could cause damage to other components on the board,...
