#Qidi P4 Scarring/defect at overhang with .2mm nozzle

I recently got a .2mm nozzle for my Plus 4 and am having an issue where everything is getting this indented, "scar" line at the level where an overhang (requiring supports) begins. I can't figure out what's causing it. You can see it in the photos, it's a line a couple layers tall around the whole part, extending a few lines into the part. It happens at different z heights--whatever height the supports for the overhangs happen at. Parts with no overhangs print flawlessly.

It's not the models or the slicing as far as I can tell, included is a pic of the same part printed twice, once with my .4mm nozzle with no issue, once with the .2mm nozzle with the "scar" line. I've also tried flipping the part 180 degrees over, and the line appears at the first overhang again (so opposite end of the 3d model). The line wraps all the way around the part.

I've tried tweaking everything I can think of of settings-wise with no luck: pressure advance, retraction (including disabling all together), flow ratio, volumetric flow rate, temperatures, different support settings, different temperatures, different speeds. I've printed the clip piece alone I think 14 times now troubleshooting.

I've included a picture of my best result, which I got with PLA by slowing the print speed to a crawl, but it still has the noticeable defect at that same layer level, especially on the inner side of the part.

I'm using Sunlu PETG High Speed with .08mm layer height. But I've also tried PLA and standard PETG (everything I have on hand) in troubleshooting the issue. All filament has been dried by me to eliminate that variable and is printing straight from a dry box, or the dryer itself.

I can't figure out the problem, any help is appreciated!

AI Help

It sounds like you are experiencing layer shifting or a similar issue related to the printer's mechanical movements. Here are a few things you can check and try to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Belt Tension: Ensure that the belts on your printer are properly tensioned. Loose belts can cause shifting or artifacts on the print.

  2. Motor Current: Check the motor current settings in your printer's firmware. Adjusting the motor current can sometimes help with print quality issues related to mechanical movements.

  3. Z-Axis Binding: Make sure that the Z-axis movement is smooth and not binding at any point. Lubricate the Z-axis rods if necessary.

  4. Overhang Settings: Since the issue appears at the level where an overhang starts, it might be worth experimenting with the support settings in your slicer. Sometimes, adjusting the support angle or density can help mitigate issues with overhangs.

  5. Cooling: Ensure that your printer's cooling system is working effectively...
