Hey everyone,
I'm a newcomer to 3D printing and just got an Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo two days ago. I've run into a strange problem right out of the box and I'm hoping you can help me out.
As you can hear in the attached video, the printer is making a loud scraping or grinding noise whenever the nozzle moves over previously printed layers. This is pretty frustrating for a brand-new machine, and I'm worried it's affecting the print quality.
I've already tried a couple of things:
I tightened the X and Y axis belts.
I lubricated the guide rails with the oil that came with the printer.
Unfortunately, neither of these helped, and the noise is still there.
Has anyone with a Kobra 3 Combo or a similar printer experienced this before? What could be the cause, and do you have any tips on how to fix it?
Any advice would be a huge help!
Thanks in advance!
#Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo: Weird Scraping/Grinding Noise?

It sounds like you've already taken some good initial steps to address the issue. The grinding noise could possibly be caused by a misaligned or loose belt, an issue with the stepper motor, or a problem with the carriage or rails.
Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Check the tightness of the belts again, ensuring they are properly tensioned.
- Verify that the pulleys on the stepper motors are securely fastened.
- Check the wheels on the carriage and make sure they are properly adjusted and not too tight or too loose.
- Inspect the rails for any debris or obstructions that could be causing friction.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may be helpful to reach out to Anycubic customer support for further assistance, as it could be a more complex mechanical issue that requires professional attention.
Best of luck with resolving the noise and improving your print quality!
I've already checked all the points, but the noise persists. Strange, maybe a real human knows more 😉
i cant really hear any unusual sounds however if you think it could be scraping with pre printed layers id try slow down the printing speed to get a better feeling of what is actually happening
i’ve noticed, especially with my anycubic, that they are noisy machines mechanically
Make sure the strain gauge in the hotend isn't loose. And make sure your on the latest firmware

I have now adjusted the speeds as follows:
🔧 Adjustments under Speed
Outer wall: from 130 mm/s → 30 mm/s
Inner wall: from 200 mm/s → 40 mm/s
Sparse infill: from 300 mm/s → 60 mm/s
Internal solid infill: from 150 mm/s → 50 mm/s
Top surface: from 150 mm/s → 30 mm/s
Gap infill: from 250 mm/s → 40 mm/s
Support: from 100 mm/s → 40 mm/s
Support interface: from 80 mm/s → 30 mm/s
🔧 Adjustments under Travel speed
Travel: from 350 mm/s → 120 mm/s
🔧 Adjustments under Acceleration / Jerk (XY)
Default: from 20 → 10 mm/s
Outer wall: from 15 → 8 mm/s
Inner wall: from 15 → 8 mm/s
Infill: from 9 → 8 mm/s
Top surface: from 9 → 6 mm/s
First layer: from 9 → 6 mm/s
Travel: from 12 → 8 mm/s
Hopefully that helps, testprint is starting soon.
How did you set the speed? I mean the printer can theoretically go up to a speed of 500mm/s, but then the whole house would have to vibrate 😉
Same - Sound :/
hmm i cant think what could be wrong unless the filament is bubbling due to moisture and the hotend is catching onto the plastic that has bubbled
Should I always turn on the drying before I print something or have it on during printing?
