#All prints seem to be squished down a several mm lower than their actual height.

This one is bazar. I switched to a new fillament because my other spool run out halfway through a project. and ever since I can't get a print out of my printer that doesn't look like its been squished like a cartoon. Like somehow layers are missing
It can't be the machine right? I mean, it printed perfectly fine before switching fillament, but I just can't figure out why switching to a new fillament suddenly enables midget mode.

I've attached an image, the black fillament piece is old fillament, and the red one is the new one. The 2 objects on the left are the SAME SIZE in CAD. But in reality, well.. like I said midget mode.

any ideas?

AI Help

It sounds like you may need to recalibrate your 3D printer after switching to a new filament. Differences in filament types can affect printing settings such as temperature, flow rate, and possibly even the print bed level.

I recommend checking your slicer settings to ensure they are optimized for the new filament, including temperature settings and print speed. Also, double-check the filament diameter setting in your printer software to match the actual diameter of your new filament.

Additionally, it's a good idea to recalibrate your print bed to ensure it is level and at the correct distance from the nozzle. This can help prevent layers from being squished together.

If the issue persists, you may need to experiment with different settings or revert back to the old filament to see if the problem resolves.

I mean how should it know you did that?

  • Slicer Settings: Settings I mentioned have been modified to try and fix the issue, but the image shows back to back prints except for the temp tower
  • Firmware: I have no idea
    Troubleshooting
  • What are you trying to do?: Print a part without it being way shorter than its supposed to be
  • What is it not doing?: Exactly that. Its printing short parts on the z axis that seem to just have completely missing layers.
  • What steps have you tried so far?:
  • Checking Z Axis wheel and bar. Regreased and cleaned it, balanced it and tightened the bolt that holds the bar onto the motor.
  • I've checked other belt tensioners and they're fine.
  • I've tried making sure the extruder is not clamping too tight or too light.
  • Played with settings to see if thats the issue.
  • Observed the Z-Axis during print and can't see any super obvious binding/slipping
  • Recalibrated z offset, and leveled the bed while at printing temps

Was the black one also silk pla? If you print pla without cooling it could be too hot to properly stack up. Its not really clear in your photo if that is what happened. If you have adhesion issues with the fan on, you can specify that the fan only kicks in after a few layers have been printed.

Black one is just standard PLA.
Im running a print now with cooling up to 85% and only after layer 3 with a raft for stability. So.. will tell the outcome of that lol

Also does it seem like it stopped extruding midway or does the new part have all the features it should have but squished?

Okay so its a cooling issue

hybrid basin

So with luck, this print will print

rose mauve

Yeah🤞

hybrid basin
# rose mauve Yeah🤞

Still got quite some time left till it finishes, but looks like cooling was the answer. I can actually see a full shape, and not a flattened warped thing.
Thanks for the help

Okay it seems to have done exactly the same thing
I took closer pictures. It looks like its bulging right at a specific point. Im at a loss

#

Like, everything goes well. till like layer 150. Which I think is 28.60mm off the bed? Not 100% sure

#

I think there might be something wrong with my z axis?
Cause, the print doesn't get left behind from the nozzle, the nozzle remains on the print at all times.. its just not going to the right height

#

Idk how to troubleshoot this

rose mauve
#

and dry your filament

no worries

hybrid basin

Just quick. Vasemode? is that something in prusa?

This thing

rose mauve

yes

hybrid basin

Ty

rose mauve
#

just makes it quicker to print and has the z axis move continouusly

hybrid basin
#

31 mins, fastest print yet lmao

hybrid basin
rose mauve
#

looks good so its probably not the z axis (anymore)

hybrid basin
#

well I've set the other print going again, this time with higher hopes. 🤞

Idk, maybe my motor on the z axis is dying. Cause it printed the cylinder fine, but failed the print again with the same issue. And i tried printing a callibration cube, its 10.41 high, instead of 20mm.

It is possible at all for the nozzle to get stuck to the print stopping it from lifting up and missing z steps? im grasping at straws here
