#Quantumania

We’re doing these first for no particular reason
Well no there is a reason
I didn’t feel like cutting 12 tubes tonight
Should I epoxy granite the extrusions? I’ve got the epoxy, all I’d need to grab is some sand
They’re all 2040s
Uprights are 400mm, diagonals are like… around that?
Diagonals are 370
Ok so that
Estimated at around 2.9kg of epoxy granite
That’s a noticeable amount I think
If I’m ever feeling funny I could use lead powder, would get like 10kg I think
Just uh not cheap
Nvm that’s kinda cheap
Wouldn’t be able to fit as much since it’s big
So like 7kg
Real lead powder would be 6 times the price or more
Talk about build volume
You got large hands is all
yeah
Sour patch kids?😂
Add a bed fan for faster bed cooling / chamber heating
There’s currently no chamber because my part cooling inlets are outside of the build volume
I can also just blast the bed with the part cooling and it will cool it down even while the heaters at 100%
Test carriage
idk
it’s better than quantumania
but the double shear feels a bit lackluster
we will see if it works
it’s just a test print to see if mpjets fit
because I have arms for this printer now
p1p
ender is still dead
z axis is being goofy
I’ll try to fix it this weekend
maybe
rip
I countersunk the bed but just realized I don’t think I have countersunk m4
I’ll buy some
update
the mpjets fit in the carriages
so I will print them using real filament
prolly pet cf
It seems i forgot the adhesive
Or they weren’t able to do it
Not sure
I have thermal glue so it’s ok
They’re pretty nice
sweet
they look cute
those are nice
is this the printer with the two parallel stewart platforms?
no, this is a quantum delta, which is essentially a normal delta but the bed moves instead of the hotend
This video shows the first two prints from the Quantum Delta 3D Printer. This was build by the PS1 CNC Club solely as a fun group project build.
The printer prints in an inverted fashion with the build platform moving and the extruder stationary. This has the advantage of being very simple, but probably does not scale well to really large par...
Like this
oh 🙁 there must not be a project post for the thing im thinking of
#1374618182761058395 perhaps? though I don’t think delta platforms technically count as Stewart platforms (do they?)
oh yeah, tyvm 🙂
very possible, i barely know what a stewart platform is lol
Hi gang this isn’t dead either
It’s getting a new hotend design
Dual 80mm long 120w mains heater cartridges
Rather than quad supervolc
And halos
Will
Probably be bought soon ish
Need to suck it up and design PCBs so I can submit for oshwlab stars.
Then jlc pays for like
90%
is this for rework

so is the swirly twirly one in #1374618182761058395
gooood shit
80% of part cost + shipping
I was close
Yeah
Thank god they pay for shipping now
Last years was 100% of cost but no shipping
It's so much better now
I was looking at s couple hundred in shipping
I need to design 2 more pcbs for cuprite and actually finish up design
The scope creep is so real
Dude it is
if I didnt scope creep i could have just used the highway grant and built my printer a few months ago, but instead i spend months designing improvments
Are you making all of the parts?
JLC probably will
Heatbreak is commercial
Everything else is custom
How much does it cost?
where are your heater wires going?
Not a clue, need to get real quotes for the options
Auto quote is nowhere near accurate for a milled meltzone
according to wayne about supervolcano heaters the cables are pretty stiff and if you dont have enough clearance can actually heat up the heatsink more than the heatbreak does, but idk if its the same for your cartridges
Just up and out the sides, the gap should be big enough. The hotend isn’t moving so I can get away with weirdness
I could make it bigger if needed of course
The gap is just the size of the titanium section of the heatbreak
Any larger will have copper sticking out
I think it’s just the angle
damn 😔
Yea, need to add it
another thing wayne mentioned to me is braces in xy is going to be better for rigidity than vertical ones
Either thin titanium clamped under the nozzle or I’ll add side holes
Ya
I can brace it against the halo
im redesigning my hotend completly to use a single mch heater instead of dual supervolcano cartridges bc of that
my hotend is now less than half as wide
and half the weight
oh interesting
I really like your toolhead so far
thanks
i got a ton of useful feedback recently so im working on implementing stuff, just school is throwing a lot of work at me
real
psst psst feel free to submit it to rework
wait are u an alum now i forget
and rework!!
yeah some programs have different cutoffs
im just getting parts through jlc so id rather not make it a seperate order just to submit to rework
but i have ideas for mods, just dont have time to do everything
fair tbh
im probably not going to do infill
@sharp furnace this is not the project for the one I mentioned before?
You don't have one?
#1374618182761058395 has both hotend and bed moving, this one is just bed
this may come as a surprise, but i worked on this project today
big WIP but the idea is to have a just like module thing that slides into the ammo can
the extra space around the power plug will hopefully be for breakout board connectors/cable harness throughput
i have a like 200cfm 120mm server fan so i am not worried at all about cooling really
will need to split it into parts for printing
but thats ok
once again still wip but
there will be things bolted to the inside of the hinged panels
mostly breakout boards for clean cabling between the ebox and printer
(and ez quick disconnect for travel)
hinge makes servicing it super easy
I have some smaller ones but no 50cal ones which is what this is
Harbor freight sells them for like 10 bucks tho
I have no idea what is what I have
But you cannot go and buy weapons or ammos, so they are probably replicas ig.. but it's very well made and airtight
They’re probably functionally the same
Should be significantly cheaper than any comparable commercial hotend
What material?
these are alu
steel would be $15 ish more
brass similar price to steel
depends on geometry
the big hot end costs more than steel for brass
the little hot end costs less than steel for brass
“little”
you should put it as close to the nozzle as you can
On my hotend it is less than 2mm from the nozzle
Did you already send it for manufacturing?
no
You should consider making it less wide at the bottom so ducts can get closer to the nozzle
So about that
lmao
Super curious to see how it comes out
Giving me more fomo to start do mine
I dig that hotend
me too
been working on trying to get halos
What's that?
the top/bottom thick metal panels
just do AR500 lasercut and lap them
expensive af and I need tapped holes
they’re not small
or get them to tap it
they’re 300-350mm^2 ish
you can’t do that
they won’t do it
because it’s a fucking nightmare
the only option is thread milling and even that’s difficult, and I can’t do it
yes you ca, but not with that attitude
it’s gonna break taps
I think it’s just close
I’m not tapping the like 20 holes in hardened steel
it's not enen that bad
that’s stupid
55hrc
it is that bad
it really isn't
there’s a reason people don’t tap it
regardless it’s not the right choice for this project at all
I have tapped some 60hrc materials just fine
this is cool af, its like the minuteman but actually practical
I would love to see this come to fruition! 🥲
Wish I could help!
Sending thoughts and prayers!
🥲
I think I might be able to source the halos through jlccnc if I stop procrastinating on my distribution PCBs
sick, i genuinely hope it comes to fruition
I love seeing projects come together 🙂
you're welcome
Normal hotend, just long?
or is it something special inside?
(screw, etc.)
Nothing special inside really, most of the special geometries will just increase back pressure and reduce flow compared to loooong meltzone
It will, however, have dual mains heater cartridges
have you seen the roetz-end? imo this printer is designed perfectly for it
I have. I do not want to deal with multiple spools of filament
This printer has a bed that is still big enough for a lot of the things I print regularly. I don’t want to have to deal with 4 spools of filament for every print, especially if it’s something more expensive for functional parts
I can’t afford that and don’t have the space 😅
i was thinking the other day that this would make one hell of an UHT
all the electronics including motors are outside so you can pretty much pump as much heat as you want inside the chamber if you enclose it, and the thermal mass on the hotend isnt limited at all
i might build one of these just for that when im in college for engineering materials
Yup
I’ve thought about doing it
I looked into heating my part cooling for a while
I wouldn’t do a halo design the same way for ht because it just heats up like crazy
insulation halo lmao
The halos are the steel plates
Technically they’re not true halos but technically I don’t care
very fun
where are u submitting the build for this to btw, if you are submitting this to a YSWS
What's a YSWS?
nowhere
twas originally blueprint but that is long gone
god i literally made a post about not calling it that outside of the community
we are part of a group called hackclub, an international organization of teens running programs for teens, aiming to get teens interested in tech
a ysws is a term for some (most) of those programs
it means
You Ship We Ship
you provide x, we provide y.
usually thats you provide a polished design with a journaled/tracked creation process, we provide funding
Teens provide funding to other teens?
We design and run the programs yeah
There’s a few adults involved of course
