#Printer is moving too far for every movement

This is a multi-step description of everything I have discovered, if it seems jumpy its cuz I prolly tried smt from my exchange with Jack3939.

My printer is ramming into the front of the Y carriage (X is doing the same) for some reason. The Y max is 230, so I can use the z endstop, but at less than 220 (dont know the actual amount) it hits some physical components and cant move closer. Everything worked fine, going to 230, when on the stock board running klipper, now I am on an octopus pro v1.0.1.

I also know for a fact that the position_endstop and position_min are correct as I have checked it with my old printer config for this printer.

I did some investigating, it maxes out, like hardware stop, at 140

The total bed is 220, max the bed moves is 230. 0 must be the left corner or else the printer wouldnt be able to home

I was thinking steps and rotation distance, but the steps and rotation is the same from the config I was using before I put in the octopus board

So when I move the bed from 0, the homed position, it reaches the front of the printer after only 140mm

Its like its moving too much on each command to move 10mm

I home X and Y then I move them as far over as possible using the buttons, they are maxed out at this despite both being able to reach 230

I noticed that, I used G90 to switch it to absolute, same thing with maxing out at the same point, is there somewhere else I am supposed to do it?

I restarted klipper, everything stayed in absolute, problem still persists

This is prolly pretty jumpy, feel free to ask me for any clarification.

AI Help

It sounds like you are experiencing some issues with the movement and limits of your printer after switching to the Octopus board. Here are a few suggestions based on the information you provided:

  1. Check Steps per Unit (Calibration): Since you mentioned that you were thinking about steps and rotation distance, it might be worth double-checking the steps per unit calibration in your Klipper configuration file. Make sure that the steps/mm values for both the X and Y axes are correct for your setup.

  2. Check Bed Size and Endstops: Ensure that the bed size and endstop positions are correctly defined in your Klipper configuration file. Confirm that the bed size matches the physical dimensions of your bed and that the endstop positions are set up accurately.

  3. Check G-code Commands: It seems like you are trying to troubleshoot by manually moving the bed and observing the limits it reaches. You mentioned using G90 to switch to absolute positioning, which is the correct co...

Custom firmware?

Klipper

#

wdym by custom?

dense scaffold

I compiled the firmware from a BTT guide, I wrote the config from a example config

novel oyster
#

Ah ok.
We should work out how to calculate the esteps for those motors then. Example config could just have a generic number.

dense scaffold
#

I compared the e steps to my old config, when I had klipper running on the stock board, and its the same

#

This before

#

And it ran fine

novel oyster
#

What about all the z rotation distance and etc...?
Same motors?

Are the cables plugged into the right ports?

dense scaffold
#

yes

#

I have checked that twice now, plus a third time while wiring it

novel oyster
#

Hmm ok... These look different though.
Max is 200 instead of 250.

dense scaffold
#

Its a very jank modified toolhead

What happens when you increase position min?

Does the where the home position is affect tbis maybe?

I dont know the answer, but i can defa give you stuff to research.

@regal willow @novel oyster is it possible there is a jumper on the board or smt that is messing it up

regal willow
dense scaffold
#

And the old config (from stock board) is two messages under it

regal willow
#

Okay🙏

#

configs look fine 🤔

#

So the thing homes correctly, it sits at x0 y0, then you tell it to move to x220 but it stops at x140 did I get that right?

dense scaffold
regal willow
#

ah..

regal willow
dense scaffold
#

Its like the steps are wrong but it the same as it was on the old config

regal willow
#

Yeah thats the odd thing. Its a stock machine apart from the board, yes?

dense scaffold
#

and the toolhead board

#

and it has an eddy probe, but I havent even calibrated that or put in the config yet

novel oyster
#

is the motor getting enough power?
(at this point i can only give suggestions to trigger ideas.)

dense scaffold
#

Could it be recieving too much? How could I check that?

@novel oyster So I will use the tmc2209 and set the voltage and everything and put it in my printer.cfg?

novel oyster
#

it looks like it from the klipper docs.
(but i've never actually done it myself.)

https://www.klipper3d.org/TMC_Drivers.html
this says:
"A higher driver current increases positional accuracy and torque. However, a higher current also increases the heat produced by the stepper motor and the stepper motor driver. If the stepper motor driver gets too hot it will disable itself and Klipper will report an error. If the stepper motor gets too hot, it loses torque and positional accuracy. (If it gets very hot it may also melt plastic parts attached to it or near it.)

As a general tuning tip, prefer higher current values as long as the stepper motor does not get too hot and the stepper motor driver does not report warnings or errors. In general, it is okay for the stepper motor to feel warm, but it should not become so hot that it is painful to touch."

i guess you'd need to calculate the voltage and current of the stepper you have.
a quick search seems to suggest that tmc 2209 is on the kobra 3 (whether that is the 2 or not, i'm not sure)

Just found it, it is identified as CS

#

ITS WORKING

#

Although now I hear a high pitched whine from the board when the motor moves, i think its the board at least

#

Its also not moving as fast

#

Now I gotta figure out what max current is for the steppers

#

This is the motor from antcubic website, is the max current 1.5?

#

42.3x42.3x40mm\synchronous wheel\output shaft length 15mm\1.8°\1.3Ω\2mH\1.5A\black

Amps is current usually.
But doesn't mean you need the max amount....(?)

1.3 ohms is the resistance.

#

Might also be dependant on how much current your stepper drivers (on your motherboard) can output.

"TMC2209 is an ultra-silent motor driver IC for two-phase stepper motors. Its continuous drive current is 2A and peak current is 2.8A."
