#Every print layer shift
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
It sounds like the loud noise and layer shift on the Y axis could be caused by a loose belt, a stalled stepper motor, or a mechanical obstruction. I recommend checking and tightening the belts, making sure there are no loose components in the print head or bed, and ensuring that the stepper motor is functioning properly. Additionally, check for any physical obstructions that may be causing the issue. If the problem persists, consider reaching out to the manufacturer for further assistance.
More current to the Y steppers
No more layer shifts
(Downside of you'll now knock the print off of the bed)
(I'm only slightly serious)
It could be the model too, there was a model I tried to print that would layer shift every time at the same location, just warping really
make sure its not colliding with anything physically
and then if not slow accel and mby speed down
its every model
if it was colliding it wouldnt get past auto home
at the same layer?
no, random
I already went from 2.5k accel to 1.5k and speed from 250 to like 80
is the print moving on the bed or is the toohlead skipping steps?
Toolhead is on the X axis so its not the problem
Idk if its skipping steps, maybe it is
ah it's a bedslinger?
yeah
And no the print isnt moving
my guess is print head running into print, causing y axis stepper to skip steps
I mean, ive always ran it with Z hop off, idk why its suddenly starting to fuck up
if thats the cause
Zhop is apparenlty not good
But it's something I try in situations like this
Make sure your belt tension on your y axis is good
I tried it with high tension, loose tension, inbetween and it doesnt change anything
Maybe the stepper is going bad or something?
I don't konw. I have no idea if that's a thing
Me neither

Checked the idler on both the stepper and the tensioner?
See if the grub screw on the stepper side came loose
Also check the belt clip under the bed, if you've run it in a hot chamber with a hot bed, it can become melty and lose grip
No hot chamber for this print, the hottest ive ever ran it is a max ambient temp of like 45c
I will check the grub screw
Idler is good, grub screws are good too
Idk what is wrong with this fuckin thing
Also the idler is the tensioner
Check the cable connection on both the stepper and mainboard side
Stepper side ok
If it's good, then try swapping the x and y axis on the mainboard side just to check if it's the driver or stepper
Man the motor moves
How do you expect me to stress test it with a print when the axes are swapped
I can swap the motors but not the entire axes
Do you have any plastic buildup on the print or nozzle?
A tiny bit on the nozzle
You don't have to do an actual print, you can write or generate a gcode that will just stress test it, but also even if the axis is swapped I don't think it'll necessarily cause problems... I hope
Ok
I suggested swapping the axis first because swapping the motors is more effort, but if you want to swap the motors first, you can
If it's only a tiny bit that wouldn't cause jumping. Could it be skipping teeth on the belt? Is one of the belts loose?
Its a bedslinger with 1 belt
And here i talked about tension
In the photos it looks like it's skipped the same amount 'back' as it skipped 'forward'.
Its not the same, its close but not the same
Not a missing tooth on the belt or pulley?
Ill check later, right now nature is calling
I asked about filament build-up because I had a mistake recently where I accidentally sliced with the PLA profile for PETG filament, and of course that meant that the PETG wasn't fluid enough. I had build-up both on the nozzle and top layer, eventually the head hit the buildup and jumped. I don't think this is consistent with what you're seeing.
Yeah I thought so too but
- This is flexible TPU95A
- I turned Z hop on in hopes to fix it
Correction, it is the same distance
I pulled it out of the trash bin to double check
No
