AI Help

It sounds like you may be experiencing some issues with printing PETG on your Ultimaker S5. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check the PETG filament diameter: Ensure that your PETG filament is actually 2.85mm in diameter and not larger or smaller, as this can affect extrusion.

  2. Adjust printing temperature: While PETG generally prints well at around 240-250°C, you can try adjusting the temperature slightly up or down in 5°C increments to see if that improves extrusion.

  3. Clean the nozzle: It's possible that there could be some residue buildup in the nozzle that is obstructing the flow of PETG. Try cleaning the nozzle using a nozzle cleaning needle or by performing a cold pull.

  4. Adjust retraction settings: PETG tends to ooze more compared to PLA, so you may need to adjust the retraction settings in your slicer to minimize stringing and oozing.

  5. Check for obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions in the filament path, such as leftover filament bi...

It almost looks like it's skipping steps/shifting to the left? See on the right how it shifts, I assume that's not intentional. Check belt tension if possible or turn down the speed.

Do not print petg directly on glass either, it will be basically a permanent bond. You can use a glue stick as a release agent but still iffy IME.

Start with a smaller print like a benchy and get it working first to verify the machine and settings are okay.

Ah OK buried the lede a bit with the clogging in your initial post. If your school has a support contract with ultimaker maybe reach out to them. Ultimakers aren't the most user serviceable machines as they're very proprietary and different than other printers.

Have you tried the other extruder on the printer? May be able to use that until the clogged one is fixed.

#

last thing do you guys have recommendations for settings? like for how much heat etc because my first print still seemed to melt off the sides i send the stl file if you need a visual look at it

The 'melting off the sides' looks like the x axis is skipping steps. Kinda surprising as most printers can't really move far off the bed if at all. You can see it shifting on the far right. Due to the age the belts probably have poor tension.

Ultimaker you have is older and not really user serviceable as easily as more modern and open printers.

ah i now understood what you meant at the beginning how can i check belt tension?

Look for a manual for the printer it probably has some guidelines

ok thank you

Worth reaching out to ultimaker as well. Being a student and all they may be inclined to help and point you in the right direction.
