#Odd problem with ender 3 v2

Hey! Before you tell me to buy another printer, there's a reason i still am holding onto this POS. I don't have the money to burn on another printer right now, so I would like to trouble shoot it as best as possible.

The only mod done is a linear rail.

The problem:

The printer prints more or less fine, but only with an insanely low extrusion multiplier. I had to set the one in the slicer to about 0.75 for it to print okay (im on a 0.8mm nozzle), which to me indicates that it's actually a 0.6 mm nozzle, but I cat almost assure you that it is not. There are 5 holes on the e3d v6 nozzle, and I measured with a precision ground dowel pin, its 0.8.

In mainsail/klipper I have everything set properly, nozzle at 0.8, and the correct rotation of the extruder set.

In the slicer I have everything set to 0.4mm layer heights with 0.8mm nozzle set.

"How do you know its an overextraction issue?"
Well, at 100% flow ratio, the extrusion stepper skips, and anything above 75% starts to have artifacts. the issue is that at 75% the layers separate from each other, and are just separated... not fusing into the layer beside them...

Again, I know this sounds like a 0.6mm nozzle, but i just don't know what else it could be. Any and all help is appreciated, ping me upon reply, and i would love to provide any additional info, logs, or settings values as needed.

It sounds like you are dealing with an interesting issue with your 3D printer. Since you've already checked and confirmed that the nozzle is indeed 0.8mm, and you've adjusted settings in your slicer and firmware, it's worth considering a few more troubleshooting steps:

  1. Hotend Temperature: Ensure that your hotend temperature is set correctly for the filament you're using. Sometimes printing at too low or too high a temperature can cause extrusion issues.

  2. Filament Diameter: Double-check the filament diameter setting in your slicer. If the filament diameter is not set accurately, it can lead to under or over extrusion.

  3. Filament Path: Make sure the filament path is clear and there are no obstructions that could be causing inconsistent extrusion.

  4. Extruder Calibration: It's possible that your extruder steps/mm calibration needs adjustment. You can perform a simple extruder calibration test to ensure that the correct amount of filament is being extruded.

and for any last doubts about it being 0.8, here is order history. these are the only nozzles ive ever bought from them.

just ideas.
i might not be right

  • I think the esteps are okay, the rotation is set correctly so that 100mm fillament is exactly 100mm.
  • no. I don't think so anyways... the plastic oozez out everywhere inicating that theres just too much. Plus it would not print almost perfect at 0.75.
  • increasing temp makes it worse, not by much. decreasing the print speed helps.
  • no. I don't think its cracked, the motor skips if it cant extrude.
  • sorry, im a coffee nerd. I meant over-extrusion.

is always that one roll of filament? (wondering if it's wet maybe?)

so decrease print speed.... try increasing fan speed....(lots of material to cool), decrease temps (maybe). 🤞
line width? maybe

the nozzle has been hotightend and if it has a bowden you've close the gap between it and the nozzle?

i assume it prints fine with the .4 mm nozzle?

@scarlet dove
have you made sure your not working with wet filament too..?

If your extruder starts skipping with 100% Extrusion multiplier then your max volumetric flow is too high. If you are still running the original hotend you can easily overpower it by sending too much material through it
