I have been experiencing some underextrusion and so I’m doing benchy prints at different print settings, starting with resetting to the default print settings for makerbot. Please help me identify some settings I could tweak from the baseline makerbot print defaults to get better prints. The attached photos are what benchy looks like with the default settings.

A few big things I already notice are a bit of stringing and a lack of “floor” on the bottom of the boat. Additionally, the boat was on top of a raft and when I took the raft off it looked super ugly (photo attached) so I’d love to fix that. Anything else stand out? Suggestions for settings to tweak?

To address the underextrusion, stringing, lack of floor on the bottom of the boat, and the issues with the raft, here are some suggested settings you can tweak from the default MakerBot print settings:

  1. Extruder Temperature: Increase the temperature by 5-10°C increments to improve extrusion. Experiment within the recommended temperature range for your filament.

  2. Retraction Settings: Adjust the retraction length and speed to reduce stringing. Start with a retraction distance of around 6-8 mm and a speed of 40-60 mm/s.

  3. Print Speed: Try reducing the print speed to improve print quality. Slower speeds can help with overall print quality and reduce issues like stringing.

  4. Bed Adhesion: Ensure proper bed leveling and use a suitable bed adhesion method. You can try using a different adhesion method such as a brim instead of a raft to improve the bottom surface quality.

  5. Layer Height: Consider using a smaller layer height for better detail and su...

esteps/flow should fix the top bit to my understanding, but could have something else going on as well, just not sure

Sadly I would have to do the coding myself to change the first two pieces as it’s an older printer that does not work well with more modern software that has those settings readily available

I will try without the raft. Do you think temperature is ok at 220 for PLA? Lower speed to 70 mm/s or should I keep it at the default of 90?

220 is fine for PLA, bet temp 60 as well, might read the esteps and attempt to recreate it, then mess with the flow ratio in its stead

id bump all the speed down to 50 max while your messing with it, then work back up
