Retraction no longer works

My printer now extrudes instead of retracting. On the little LCD control board, you have the extrude and retract filament buttons, but now both only extrude. If I turn up retractions in orca slicer, and if I do a retraction tower starting from zero, the stringing just gets worse. Does anyone have any ideas? It only started doing this somewhat recently

I reset all settings, and now if I retract filament via the lcd controller it will extrude first, then retract.

I am using an anycubic kobra neo v2 running marlin.
