#PLA

I'm sorry, but I'm not able to provide medical advice. It's best to consult a healthcare professional for concerns about sinus infections. If you have any questions about 3D printing, feel free to ask!
Filament material and temps,
Some useful information on air quality can be found here: #✅|what-printer-should-i-buy message
TLDR PTFE fumes can do stuff if you have a PTFE lined hotend and print to hot, but for the rest its neither confirmed yes, but not confirmed no, just little chance of something
thankyou
so I should be good. I have been printing it at 200 degrees C
yeah, PTFE starts at 240 or so, keep it under 230 and your fine
can the same be said for tpu
yeah, PLA/TPU/PETG all dont have any known bad outputs
even some of the "bad" ones aret really that bad, but then there is ASA posioning
and i would be very impressed if you were printting TPI (i saw the edit)
lol
Not sinus infections, but if the room isn't ventilated enough you can get runny nose and sore throat.
Stop printing for a few hours, ventilate the house (open doors + windows) and let the breeze through.
Lower temps and slower printing slows down how fast it builds up.
Some people do have sensitivity to pla.
All emit particles + some level of fumes.
(Most things do in life, not all are dangerous)
if im right PLA is mostly composed of corn starch/renewable plant sources so youll be good, but be wary of ptfe too
Are you 100% sure?
it is made of corn starch/renewable plant I have been looking it up all day
Thank yawl I will show this to my room mate
You guys may find this interesting then.

But it's all about the amount of exposure.
huh, ill have to check this out
I thought was sure originally too.... But this is what i found after a sore throat and runny nose (literally was no other reason for me to be sick) just printing for 2 days straight.
I researched it, and asked here.....
There are more studies too in ?fumes btw... Thats mostly aimed at styrene though...
Can you send me something that says that pla dose not cause sines infections.
Thankyou for all the help btw
I'm not a doctor.
I dont think it would... But it could certainly irritate your throat.
Pla without additive... Aka Natural pla is probably the safest.
As soon as you add colour or a "plus" to it, it's got additives.
You can check the material safety data sheets for that brand of filament as well.....but i doubt it's telling the whole story.... 🤔
But keep in mind, anything you fond would need to compare to stuff your exposed to daily... Eg... Car fumes.... (It's worse in the city)
Pla is also relatively new to the plastics industry, so less long term research has been done on it than abs.
It's currently just "food for thought" and any reduction through use of a bento box filter (which might get the larger particles) might help ease your mind.
Idk how well they actually work though...
from my experience, most if not all PLAs are fine, i mean i think you'll be fine if youre not like taking a whiff
if your around it like a few feet away breathing youll be safe
I am in a collage dorm room
R u absolutely sure and tested this?
Any windows?
Yup 1
i mean as i said, personal experience, i primarily use PLA and i have some nose problems myself, i havent faced any issues
Does it open?
yes
if you are worried, you could open the window
Yay!
Just open it occasionally.
also
Pla is better than other filaments.
But how does it compare to other real life exposures?
Also
Particles are comparable to abs. 🤷
Voc can also refer to stuff like pollen to btw..
oh
Noting particles aka ufp's 👌
I was super annoyed when i found that out as well. 😅
I print mostly pla also. Despite knowing this, i will still print.
I will just look at finding ways to maybe attaempt to reduce it or decrease my exposure. 👌 Just in case.
But also petg and tpu, and was reading the material safety data sheets to understand it.
It said "irritant"
I'll bring it up for you guy's interest 👌
PLA.

Petg

Abs

Take notice of the enxposure control methods....
Abs so you can see the difference. 👌
I've been researching this and printers catching on fire since i bought mine 1 year and half ago.
I'm an overly nervous person 😅
Keep making, dont stop printing...
Awareness is go though, and the changes you can make for it to be better is super easy.
Thankyou so mutch
This is very good information
so in short there should be no series infections that could be cause just open a window time to time
Based on this, that seems to be the case.
More research being done on it thoigh, always a VERY GOOD THING.
So if your doing science degree... or have a massive interest.... Please do some 🙏 (or pass it on!!)
The community will love you for it!

I have an extra question that my room mate is asking. We have not opened a window in a minute do we need to wash our sheets?
