#Bottom layer

Hello, recently I’ve been having problems with my bottom layers. My tops are smooth and completely fine, but any raised bottom layers come out scratchy and weird. It was attached to supports but I don’t think this would be the scarring left behind and I had another print with the exact same outcome and it wasn’t attached to supports. If someone knows a fix to this or what I’m doing wrong please let me know, thanks.

My printer is a Bambu p1s and I’m using a .4 nozzle with .08 layer height

It sounds like you may be experiencing adhesion issues with the bottom layers of your prints. To improve this, you can try the following steps:

  1. Ensure that your printer bed is properly leveled. A level bed is crucial for good adhesion.

  2. Clean the build plate before each print with isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils or residue that could affect adhesion.

  3. Adjust your print bed temperature. Different filaments require different bed temperatures for good adhesion. Experiment with slightly higher bed temperatures to see if it improves adhesion.

  4. If you are using a raft, try reducing the air gap between the model and the raft to improve adhesion.

  5. Check your initial layer height and adjust it if necessary. If the nozzle is too close to the bed, it can cause scraping and rough bottom layers.

By following these steps, you should see an improvement in the bottom layers of your prints.

These are the results, forgot to send them

That's supports.

rancid token
#

I think it's just support remaining on

#

Gotta sand it

torpid shoal
#

I think it's the opposite, I thin the support interface is too low for the first layer of the underside.

#

That looks like an overhang that drooped a bit

wraith parrot
#

up support interface %, increase support z distance likely

torpid shoal
#

@calm drum are you using Orca?

calm drum
#

I’m using Bambu studio

torpid shoal
#

Close enough

#

Under support -> advanced, what is your Top Z Distance

calm drum
#

.16

wraith parrot
#

maybe its called something different here tho

torpid shoal
# calm drum .16

You're trying to print a line with a gap twice as big as your line height

calm drum
#

Well when you put it like that lol

torpid shoal
#

Decrease the distance to .08

#

ehhh

calm drum
#

Sorry this is my first week lol, won’t that make the supports pretty hard to remove?

torpid shoal
#

maybe 0.12 first

wraith parrot
#

decreasing the support z distance makes it more attached, not less, usualy .2 works for most

torpid shoal
#

To me, that very much looks like the lines are drooping on the initial bottom.

#

Like an overhang that has not been supported properly.

wraith parrot
#

i think the support interface was so well attached that it ripped itself apart before partly detaching

calm drum
#

Should I get some other pictures

torpid shoal
#

Oh wait, I opened the image fullscreen

#

Yeah, I think you're right @wraith parrot

#

Take some more pictures @calm drum

#

Just to be sure

#

I didn't see the perpindicular lines when viewing the image in Discord

#

That def looks more like stubborn supports.

calm drum
wraith parrot
#

yeah, i open most everything in browser

torpid shoal
#

Also, @calm drum , when you are removing the supports, do not just pull them away from the model

#

I grab mine with pliers and very subtly twist them clockwise/ccw against the model

#

And I've found that it drastically improves the blemishes of the support.

calm drum
#

I've been using pliers to wiggle them a bit and take them off but I havent tried twisting, ill give it a shot

#

So should I up the Top z distance on my next go?

#

Also im not quite sure what or where the support interface % is

wraith parrot
#

was it easy to remove or hard?

torpid shoal
calm drum
#

Nothing took more than a couple seconds to come off

wraith parrot
#

then i guess reduce, not sure why the support interface would look like that though

torpid shoal
#

If you are finding that you're having to put any effort at all in besides the rotation, clamp on to another spot and do the same motion there first

wraith parrot
#

might need to turn on advanced mode for it, there should be a advanced under support with these

calm drum
#

Any of these?

torpid shoal
#

@calm drum try out these settings

#

I use Orca, so not 1:1, but decipher what you can

wraith parrot
#

main ones are top interface layers to 3, top interfacing to like .2, top z to .12 for a test

calm drum
#

hmm, what will change when I up my bottom Z distance to yours? Its more than double mine

wraith parrot
#

bottom z distance inst applicable, thats for when supports start on prints

wraith parrot
#

like supporting a F on the inside

calm drum
wraith parrot
calm drum

kk

calm drum
wraith parrot
#

just top z distance

calm drum
#

Oh okay

#

Ill try it out tonight, thank you guys a lot!
