#Repainting my Ender 3 PRO

It is possible to paint your 3D printer, but it's important to be cautious when painting components like the PSU (Power Supply Unit) as it can affect heat dissipation. It is generally not recommended to paint the PSU. When painting the exterior of your printer, ensure proper ventilation, mask off any parts you do not want paint on, and lightly sand the surface before applying acrylic spray paint for better adhesion. Popular color combos include white with black or metallic accents for a sleek look. Remember to let the paint fully cure before using the printer to avoid any fumes potentially affecting prints.

.
fast and minimal fialment is extrusion slot covers, and im a fan of light blue
you can paint the outside of eh PSU, just make sure to tape off the fan covers and that nothring drips/reaches inside
That is the plan im having actually
Yeah i think im just going to remove the Actual PSU from the metal cover and then taping the inside by the fans to then spray it
do not open the PSU itself, the capacters inside will hold a chege even when unplugged, tape it from the outside
PSU Modding: DO NOT ATTEMPT
Modifying the PSU is highly discouraged because there is an immense risk of lethal electrical shock.
The capacitors in there hold enough power to easily kill you if you touch the wrong part.
It is not worth opening a PSU. DO NOT ATTEMPT
Alr! probbably better that way since im planning on getting a airduct thing anyways 🙂 , yay for less work
Think ill need to hit the printer with some sandpaper?
paint sticks better with it yeah, though i dont do much painting
Yeah, Good point, ill probably need to buy some kind of putty to like repair some standard holes i think
Also now im hella scared of installing my new psu rear holder coz i gotta mess with the cables
How do i do it safely?
as long as you dont open it should be fine, the danger is the capciters inside discharging all at once
ah alr ty
If anyone want to add a little decal to be remembered on my printer that would be super cool!

Update to anybody watching. I have now almost completely dismembered my sweet little Print Eastwood, he isn’t even wearing his little cowboy hat.
Tommorow I’ll continue disasembling him so that he can be cleaned and then painted. After that i might get him a raspberry pi and fix the cables a bit better.

Update:
I have now completely disassembled my Ender 3 Pro.
I have now gone and consulted people who know a bit more about paint and apparently i can use vinegar to remove the original paint then apply the acrylic spray paint and then a clear coat on so that it stays on better and I'm going to use one with a clear finish.
The previous method i found was using drain cleaning or oven cleaning solutions mainly using sodium hydroxide to remove it but that's very corrosive and could also remove aluminum so I would have to be very observant or it would degrade the aluminum or possibly dissolve it completely if left too long or unwatched. The reaction when used in water can also very easily begin to boil if adding too much to the water and that could cause big problems. I do not recommend this route as it is both dangerous for your health and for the aluminum,
Update. The Vinegar did not work, might be due to concentration or it just doesn't work so I'm back at the beginning.
Or because its anodized aluminium and not painted
Paint will likely be messed up very fast by the v rollers and maybe even detrimental for the frame alignment. If you want to paint it, leave the frame assembles as much as possible to avoid the alignment issues.
It is Anodized, got any tips on how to do it? cause Caustic soda i dont have
lightly sand it, hit it with primer, then paint
Allright
If you don't want to play with NaOH
I dont really want to haha
understandable
what grit level should i use for it? can i use a powertool or will that be too rough?
Wait why am i just sitting here waiting for you to respond hahaha, i could be sanding
If you mess up the surface where another part is mounted too much the extrusion is ruined (could flip it over maybe). 120 or so, you only want to lighly rough it up so the primer has something to hold onto
right, i gotta check if i have a primer tho, otherwise ill just have to use the spray paint i allready have
I mean or get primer? Less chances of doing it two times with removing old paint
Its too late here in sweden to buy anything and i want to get the project going so i can asemble my printer again hahaha
This is not a night project
You obviously havent met a person with adhd and two redbulls in them hahaha
75% here are on the spectrum, including me
Hyperfixation isn't new to me
You are in good company
ok yeah so no primer available i fear haha, and my dad said its getting late so i just might be able to do it. just gotta get the paint-tape on first
Good luck
(I suggest not drinking red bull in the evening (or at all)
) Good Night.
got a bit of an addiction going and i drank it earlier
I managed to tape it all and get some glue resistent off, I’ll have to continue tomorrow or my family will kill me

Update, I started sanding and painting but had to stop due to the spray cans nozzle being shit. Will se how I work around that.
