Hello everyone, my name is Nav and I am in the process of releasing a product into the market. I am looking for someone to help accommodate a 3D print for the frame which will be made of plastic. Here are some questions.

  • Is there a plastic that feels and looks more high quality? This will be a premium product and so it should be up to that standard. Originally the frame was supposed to be made of Metal but after some research, it may be too heavy, and the thickness of the frame can't be accommodated.

  • If the 3D print frame works out, would it be best to buy one to two machines to print out the frame and make it DIY or would it be best to find a manufacturer. I was thinking about a manufacturer previously but I understand that would eat into margins. If it is DIY, will quality control be okay?

Some things to note:
The backboard will be wood and the baseboard will also be wood. The card holders will be hopefully aluminum. At this time I am looking for someone to accommodate the frame which will be 18 inches in length. Please see photos and files, thank you.

Hello Nav,

I can help you with 3D printing-related questions, including materials and production methods for your product's frame. Here are some answers to your questions:

  1. For a premium look and feel, you can consider using materials like high-quality PLA, PETG, or ABS with post-processing techniques such as smoothing, painting, or plating. These can give your plastic frame a metallic appearance or a smooth, polished finish.

  2. When deciding between DIY 3D printing and outsourcing to a manufacturer, consider factors such as cost, time, volume of production, and quality control. DIY printing can be cost-effective for small batches and prototyping, but may require investment in equipment and expertise. Outsourcing to a manufacturer can ensure consistent quality and scalability, but costs may be higher. Quality control can be maintained through rigorous testing and inspection processes, regardless of production method.

Please note that my expertise is limited to 3D printing and...
