#Print isn't sticking to layers well when overhang

0.4 nozzle, 0.2 layer height. Flow rate, temp, pressure advance, retraction calibrated for this specific filament. This is a 45° chamfer in model. I generally avoid horizontal fillets bc of this issue.

I know when overhang angle is too large, less than 1/2 of the upper layer touches the lower one, and lowering layer height helps, but this still happens somehow often.

Now I'm thinking of

  1. Printing inner walls first for outer walls to stick better. I don't want to do this though, it affects accuracy of the print a bit more.
  2. Printing outer walls much slower, letting it cool down and solidify more. Not sure if it helps to stick with lower layers.
  3. Printing with even lower layer heights to have better overhangs. Affects speed a lot so it's last resort.

It sounds like you are dealing with issues related to overhangs and layer adhesion. Here are some additional suggestions you may consider trying:

  1. Adjusting print cooling settings: Increasing cooling fan speed or adding additional cooling can help with overhangs by allowing the filament more time to solidify before the next layer is printed.

  2. Using support structures: Adding supports can help with overhangs by providing a foundation for the upper layers to build upon. There are various support settings in slicing software that can be adjusted to cater to your specific model.

  3. Experimenting with different infill patterns and densities: Increasing the infill density or changing the pattern (e.g., using gyroid or cubic instead of lines) can help provide more support for overhanging features.

  4. Checking and adjusting your retraction settings: Proper retraction settings can help reduce stringing and improve the overall quality of your print, including overhangs.

  1. Print hotter
  2. Print Slower
    3.Lower layer height.
  3. Print inner then outter ( if accuracy is a problem maybe check out X-Y compensation / elephant photo compensation)

There's very little for the outer wall to anchor itself too, you print inner/outer/infill for best overhang performance

And then yes for very steep overhangs dropping speeds more helps. My speed at 75% overhang is like 10mm/s

yeah changing order to inner walls first was the first thing that came to my mind after I see the print 😅

With those overhangs yeah 😅
