#Using G10 on a SV06

So I'm trying to use a G10 sheet as a print surface on my SV06 for PETG. Problem is, the print head has a metal detecting z axis sensor (don't know what that type is technically called). So its not detecting the G10 and just ramming its self into the bed. Has anyone else tried a similar setup? I could trick it by putting aluminum foil over it while calibrating then remove it before the print but that seems kind of sketchy. I tried lining the underside with foil but it couldn't detect it from far enough away. Is there a way to increase the distance of the sensors activation? I'd appreciate any help or ideas.

It sounds like you are dealing with an inductive sensor on your printer. In this case, the sensor detects metallic surfaces, which is why it's not working with the non-metallic G10 sheet. Unfortunately, there isn't a straightforward way to increase the distance at which the sensor activates, as it is designed to detect metal at a specific range.

Using aluminum foil to temporarily trick the sensor during calibration, as you mentioned, may work as a workaround. However, I agree that it's not an ideal or sustainable solution. One potential option could be to look into getting a different type of sensor that is compatible with non-metallic surfaces like G10. Alternatively, you could try using a thin metal plate on top of the G10 sheet to provide a metallic surface for the sensor to detect.

I recommend reaching out to the printer manufacturer or online forums for specific advice tailored to your printer model and setup.

Sorry for some reason my message isn't showing up, so here it is if you can't see it either:

The stock sensor is an inductive probe

#

You could get a capacitive probe with the same form factor and wiring (pnp/npn, normally open/normally closed) but these have issues with changing temps and humidity

#

Or install a touch probe (bltouchc/clones or klicky)

I was looking into different sensor types and optical seems pretty reliable... is that an option without more heavy mods to the print head?

#

Or do you think lowering the inductive probe would help? with the metal backing of course...

You need a steel sheet for it to work
