As the title says my filament just keeps getting shred as if tenstion was messed up but tension really doesnt seem to matter. I tested 12 different tension settings 2 times for each of my 8 spools of filament and every last print failed. 2 spools are one year old polymaker PETG, one is 1.5 year old formfutura PETG, 5 others are 2.5 year old 3djake ecopla. All of them have been in the over at 50C for at least 6 hours. FF and one polymaker sat for 8, one 3djake for 10h. I am completely out of ideas. I don't even know if the filament is at fault or the toolhead magically killed itself. Open for anything at this point because I'm loosing my mind
#sv06 keeps shredding filament

AI Help
It sounds like you have already tried adjusting the tension settings on your printer with no success. Since the issue is occurring with multiple spools of different ages and types of filament, it's unlikely that the problem lies solely with the filament itself.
Given the extensive troubleshooting you have already done, it may be worth checking other possible factors that could be causing the shredding issue. Some possibilities to consider include:
-
Nozzle clogging: Make sure the nozzle is clean and clear of any debris that could be causing the filament to shred.
-
Filament path obstruction: Check for any obstructions or misalignments in the filament path that could be causing the filament to shred.
-
Heat settings: Ensure that the heat settings for both the hotend and heated bed are correct for the filament being used.
-
Extruder calibration: Check that the extruder steps per mm are calibrated correctly to ensure proper filament feeding.
If you have exhausted all options...

nozzle is brand new and cold pull came out clean, path seems fine. the cog was a little dirty but i cleaned it up.its hot enough and esteps are right
@crude ferry sadly not
i bought new nozzles because i thought it might be that
does it squirt plastic"?
no, it gets stuck cause it cant grip it anymore
worn down gears?
looks fine to my eye, but i'd need a new one next to me to tell if thats actually a thing
shame i tried anywhere from 1-4 turns of the knob which results in completely different tension strength
i tried tension from anywhere between no marks to severely chewed up after one go
maybe a clog somewhere above the nozzle
thats why im completely stumped on this
so i gotta take the toolhead apart?
man fuck this cant someone just make 500€ spawn in my bank account so i can get a q1
well if it ain't the extruder, ain't the nozzle, ain't the tension on the filament grub screw, then maybe there is a clog in the heat block ?
unless the filament is genuinely just bad
But I really haven't printed much
That's what I find odd
but he said cold pull clean
do you have any filament that's not >1 year old
Maybe 2 or 3 kg passed through that toolhead
I dont, but that shouldn't be an issue since they were stored isolated with plenty of silica that was dried once when it was full and the filament sat in the oven for so long
when u cold pull
do u cut away like 4 cm
and put it in again?
cause if u just shove it rright in, the clog stays in
Yeah
Polymaker and Formfutura are supposed to be high quality so a year with very low ambient moisture and good drying shouldn't be any problem at all
I might buy new filament but I want to rule everything else out
Cause I have so much left
well, we gotta go through pretty much everything to find the fault, and with those checks out of the way, i can't say it's the machine unless you fully disassemble the extruder to see the innards condition
i mean it for sure wouldnt shred
just bubble up
can you send a pic of 'shredding'
yes
Grinds it down
oh thats' it?
this look like worn gears
time to open the extrudre
Enough to get it stuck completely
either way, gotta take off the extruder and disassemble it to see the gears
it doesnt get stuck
its just gears are rounded or full of plastic
so it grinds it until it cant grip, and then its stuck
just open the head and look at the gears
I tried cleaning those and they looked fairly good to me but imma get if completely tomorrow morning
I do remember that there still is some gunk
well i cant tell u if its good or not without seeing it
No clue if mentioned but check if your feeder gears are still attached to the shafts and the grub screw sits tight
no clue whats a grub screw in filament feeder
Its worse than I remembered
Sorry but what's a grub screw?
ok yeah
this look like needing cleaning
but also maybe brand new gear
better to get reinforced one
if it exists
A grub screw is supposed to sit in there and secure the gear
Where the fuck could it have gone💀💀💀
u need to clean or replace gears
these also just look like awful gears

Thank sovol ig
But I will clean them again
I think you're not supposed to have one there and he just got things mixed up
i suggest getting new
or clean them really well
and increase tension
just doesnt seem like these gears have good bite
without decent pressure
To fix the gear to the motor shaft so it actually spins when the motor turns and feeds the filament

it might be fixed now, gonna try an overnight print but tests seemed promising
took apart the toolhead and properly cleaned it all
most of the tiny plastic pieces stuck in there came from one shitty spool that i could never get to print properly

did you check the grub screws?
They're fine
