I'm having a nightmare with large prints. After the first layer everything looks shit. The nozzle is dragging on the filament and it's bunching up but I don't know why when the first layer looks fine. Please can someone help as I just want to print stuff and this is making me go insane.
#Horrible 2nd layer and onwards on larger prints

It sounds like you may be experiencing issues with bed leveling or improper adhesion to the bed causing your print to fail after the first layer. Make sure your bed is leveled correctly and the nozzle is at the right distance from the bed for proper adhesion. Additionally, check your print settings such as temperature, speed, and retraction to ensure they are appropriate for your filament and model. If the issue persists, consider calibrating your extruder steps/mm. Good luck troubleshooting!

Sovol SV06 running klipper
Overture PETG at 250, 240 and 230
Bed at 80
Prusaslicer
what's your flow at?
I think I have it set to 15mm/s
no, i meant extrusion multiplier
also, in those pictures, which are your most recent print? because on some pic, the z offset seems fine, but on others, it looks too high
These three were my most recent prints. I raised it slightly since I was getting issues with the filament
How can I find the extrusion multiplier please?
Did you level the bed before printing?
It's in the filaments tab in prusa slicer
Yeh I have adaptive setup in my gcode and adjusted the silicone spacers last night
Extrusion multiplier is set to 1
The first picture's z offset looks good, and the 2nd and 3rd image's z offset looks too high
Can u send the bed mesh?
Since you're running klipper
Those images are from the same print. the mid section is supports
My bed is quite warped
Ok that's good to hear
I just dried the PETG for 10 hours as well i think so it's as dry as it will get
What's ur bottom shell layer set to?
Wait nvm, can u just send the gcode or stl
so i'm trying to print these two together so i can connect a bowden tube from my drier to my printer
i have been trying to print gridfinity bases too but those are just not working with the issue i have right now
is that the stl for #1269813514021634079 message
yes it is, the large print is rotated to fit diagonally and the smaller one to the side
send screenshot of sliced preview
ah, those are brims
yes sorry
do you think it's worth trying to turn down the max print and volumetric speeds and see if that helps?
whats ur print speed
those are currently 300mm/s and 15mm3/s
yeaah, i dont think stock sv06 is hitting that
turn down the max flow rate to 13mm/s or even lower
or even try 10, see if thats the issue
have you tuned e steps?
i haven't no, not really sure how to do it to be honest
i've not tuned pressure advance either
?ellis
might be a good idea to go through this 👆
ok will do, i might not be able to get back to this for a few days since i'm away from tomorrow after work
no worries
i just find it weird that the issue is new and i've been getting half decent prints until now
might be a partial clog? try a cold pull if reducing speed doesnt work
i'll have a look as i just put this CHT nozzle on 2 days ago
i had the same issues with the standard 0.4mm brass nozzle
First layer going down
Looking good so far
Btw what r those little black dots?
Is that just just how the filament is?
yeh sorry it's a speckled white PETG filament
Ah I see
nop good
petg is building up on the nozzle and clumping on the print
it only happens once it speeds up
maybe i should turn the temp down if it's building up on the nozzle? i'm at 235 right now
235 1st layer and 225 2nd layer
ok i went from 240 to 250 and now back down hoping that would help
i'll slice at 250 and set it off
260 1st layer and then 250 after?
Also you can change the STL to something simpler like a cube, so it doesn't waste as much filaments
Sure
ok starting that now
sorry just saw this
will change it now
Clearing a jam in the nozzle can be an easy fix. Using nylon filament and a few minutes of your time, you can clear the debris within your nozzle that causes inconsistent extrusions and failed prints!

i did a smaller temp tower because i thought maybe it was the temps and that was going well until it got to 235 and the tower came loose from the bed

I've just noticed that the hotend is slightly bent. Not sure how but could this be what's affecting my prints?
If thats your first layer, your z offset is wrong
And yes, get your nozzle pointed straight. Like this, the edge of the nozzle orifice can scrape along the previous layer
it feels like i'm always setting my z offset, is this normal with inductive sensors?
i'm looking at buying a new one to replace this
yeah they can be a bit inaccurate with changing temps
make sure you let the bed heat up a bit before probing
i have it setup in my gcode that the heating is complete then it does the adaptive bed mesh
i've just printed the part using marlin settings so 20-40mm/s and it's been fine
1.5mm3/s flow
yeah but its definitely not equalized once the bed thermistor reads the set temp
is swapping the inductive sensor to a BLtouch easy?
you would need to change the firmware

@stray wedge sorry i am back now to the printer after a couple days. before leaving i did two prints at super slow speeds and everything went the way i would expect. printed well and good quality. the changes were the speeds set to basically marlin settings in Orca slicer with the default profile and flow super low at 1.5mm3/s and then i swapped the CHT nozzle back to the brass nozzle after doing some cold pulls on it. for the interim i also bend the heatbreak back so the nozzle is straighter but i have a new one on the way so will swap that once it arrives. the profile was using standard PETG temps so 235°C and that seemed to work fine (minor stringing). it seems when i speed up the printer, it just doesn't like it so potentially it needs to be calibrated as the higher speed is highlighting some issues?
