#Struggling to find a support material that works with CF-Nylon

I have some Eryone CF-PA12 that I'm having tons of trouble finding a support material that will work with zero Z interface distance, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm using a 5-tool Prusa XL and printing from a dryer.

I've tried:

  • Polymaker Polysupport for PA12 - sticks too well, very time consuming to remove without remnants
  • ABS - looked promising but pulled up later in the test print. I'll give it another try, I think I didn't mark it as soluble and it failed when printing over sparse support
  • Polymaker Polydissolve S1 PVA - Looked good initially then started balling up instead of sticking, fortunately dropped pea size balls around the print instead of creating a blob of doom. Retrying didn't stick at all. (Could having it in the dryer be causing some kind of issue?)
  • Fiberlogy BVOH - Balling up on the purge tower. Looked like it was trying to stick to the print, but the ball from the tower picked it up before long. Had very weak adhesion when I stopped the print and tried pulling off the few bits that stuck.
  • Airwolf 3D Hydrofill Looked like it had a good balance between sticking while printing and pulling off afterward to be a breakaway support, but the older spool I have was too far out of spec and jammed in the nozzle tube. They don't seem to even offer 1.75mm diameter anymore. (Any suggestions for ways to decrease the diameter to be in spec?)

Strangely, I tried some Esun ePA (seems to be PA6) with the BVOH and it worked great with the same exact print file. The BVOH also came with a sample of Fiberlogy CF-PA12 that had the same results as the Eryone CF-PA12

It sounds like you've done a thorough job testing various support materials with your Eryone CF-PA12 filament. Since you've explored a range of options and have detailed your observations with each, it's possible that the specific interaction between Eryone CF-PA12 and support materials may be more challenging than usual.

Here are a few additional suggestions you could consider:

  1. Adjust print temperature and speed settings for the support material to see if it improves adhesion or performance.
  2. Experiment with different support material brands or formulations that are specifically designed for use with PA12 filaments.
  3. Consult with other users or communities who have experience with Eryone CF-PA12 to see if they have encountered similar challenges and have any recommendations.

Regarding your question about decreasing the diameter of the Airwolf 3D Hydrofill filament that's out of spec, it's not advisable to manually alter the diameter of 3D printing filament. Doing so can ca...

why not use petg isnt that what ppl normally use???

#

its like 40c lower temp but isnt that okay?

For this project we want the properties of nylon. For most of our other stuff we do use PETG

yeah but i thought ur just using supports as supports not as the model itself

the support material will be tossed

Are you saying use PETG as support?

Just finished another test, with ABS marked as soluble in PrusaSlicer so it does two full layers of nylon before switching it worked
