I printed a fan blade of my own design and it's not quite balanced. Does anybody have any tips for balancing it?

To balance a 3D printed fan blade, you can try the following steps:

  1. Use a small piece of clay or putty to add weight to the lighter side of the blade.
  2. Trim or sand down the heavier side of the blade to reduce its weight.
  3. Measure the weight of each side using a scale to ensure they are balanced.
  4. Test the fan blade on the motor and make adjustments as needed until it spins smoothly.

Good luck with balancing your fan blade!

I was thinking of just balancing it on a rivet or something else small and just seeing which sides need material removed.

Just trying to reduce noise, doesn't need to be perfect

how would you recommend mounting it horizontally? i don't really have anything close to a lathe live center or anything

Dont shave of lenght

oh yeah i do have nails

#

so just fan on top of nail and spin until balanced?

if your motor is free to spin without impeding the rotation too much mount it there

#

Just spin manually

#

Otherwise print a mount or use a vise or a clamp

aight, then just rotate to each blade and measure to common point beneath them? Then shave off from somewhere that's not the length of the fan? Sounds doable

#

my motor doesn't spin super freely, but i think i might be able to do that

#

i'll try another mounting method if it doesn't work

Mark all blades with a marker (1,2,3 etc) so you can keep track
