Hi all,

Just starting out my journey in 3D printing so starting the process of getting all set up. I will be setting up a corner of my office for my 3D printer (Qidi Q1 Pro). Just wanted to share a few photos and log the progress.

Will be another few weeks at least until the printer arrives but can get set up with other stuff in the meantime.

To start, I found a fairly cheap stylish porcelain tile (600mm by 900mm) to place in the corner (around £13 brand new in the UK).

I have ordered some thick EVA sandwiched rubber vibration isolation pads from Amazon (around £30) which I will be placing underneath the tile to reduce noise in the rest of the house. My son's bedroom is directly below my office so can't have too much noise coming from the printer whilst it's on.

I plan to have the 3D printer and the Eibos Polyphemus drier next to it on the slab and my filament stored elsewhere in the room (either in a cabinet or maybe DIY storage boxes to keep the humidity out.

You want to keep everything on the floor?

I'm going to raise it but probably only a few inches with those anti vibration pads / feet but yeah. This is in my roof space so you can't see but there are angled ceiling above so I wouldnt be able to use a normal height table. Maybe a coffee table at max

I'm happy with the tile. Was looking online on Facebook marketplace place and it wasn't really much cheaper for used tiles and this has a much nicer look to it 😄

Managed to find a Coway Airmega Mighty on Facebook marketplace for £40 which I think was a decent deal.

It was supposedly 8 months old but no way to validate that (though the guy seemed honest enough). Have cleaned it up to the best of my ability and run it on full tilt to get rid of any additional settled dust and seems to be doing it's job. Not sure where I will place it in the room, maybe on the left side of the door to space things out.

I know it only has a minor carbon filter in reality so if/when I make a air filter within the printer, I will probably just make that pure activated carbon pellets rather than a hepa filter / activated carbon combo which I figure will be a good balance.

You seem well prepared😁

I'm getting there. The rubber/EVA vibration isolators for under the slab is arriving today but we are heading out on holiday untill Friday so will miss that. Amazon so hopefully they leave at the door

This is my printer and the anti vibration pads. Waiting at my neighbours whilst I'm away on holiday until Friday.

Can't wait!

instructions unclear printer arrived but when I went to pick it up the printer was out of the box and surrouned bye boats what do I do now? The neighbor says it arrived like that?

I can confirm no boxes were harmed in the safe storage of the printer....

Or he is very good at repackaging printers up!? 🤔

I can see the printer box and I am guess the other box on top is filament but what is the plastic package?

meager crescent

So actually the Amazon box was anti vibration pads that I've put underneath my slab that my printer is sitting on. The other parcel was unrelated to 3d printing. A cute outfit for my toddler 😁

Need to do the calibration and properly connect up the filament drier

I would strongly suggest a good table at this point. Also here is some of the best bang for your buck filament. $11 per spool https://a.co/d/0iOQQ21a

If space is an issue they do have electric tables that you can raise and lower with a button

I strongly second the use of table legs, preferrably the lifting ones. Should be fine with the tile and some anti skid pads or VHB tape

I will try it out as is for a few days and see how it goes.

It's currently doing it's first print and thankfully it's not crazy loud in the bedroom below it and my kid as gone to sleep just fine.

The challenge I have about raising it is that it's my office and I'm on camera a fair bit so would want to avoid the printer being in view.

This is a photo of the office setup, I'm rocking a height adjustable desk (although now due to the key lights, I can't really use the height adjustment 🤦🏽

#

First print (spool holder for cardboard spool). Let's hope it goes well. This is just out of PLA but I would need to print it out of something more heat resistant as I have PETG, ABS and might try other filaments that would need to be dried at higher temperatures

#

First print done. One section on the first layer that didn't print cleanly (photo attached) but the rest came out perfectly

Second one is coming out much nicer. The stock profile in slicer didn't have any part cooling or aux cooling set so I had only set it on part way through the first print.

Set them both to max as soon as the second print started and the first layer went down much more cleanly.

I have noticed that in parts, there were gaps between two lines of filament so maybe under-extrusion or something? Might have to do some reading/YouTubeing to learn how to make sure that doesn't happen.

Pic?

This is the second one. Overall just came out much cleaner than the first purely based off ramping up the cooling fans to max.

#

First layer test. Wasn't printing fast so need to look into how to improve that

i think you were finished from the start. you got a 3d printer, and you got a corner. exactly what you need.

#

(its a joke btw lol)

Been going through the weekend doing different calibrations (flow, pressure advance, temperature test and now doing max volumetric speed).

Been good as I've dialed in a few settings to get better quality.

I am noticing some ghosting so will need to see how to improve that but overall the printer is doing really well 🙂

ghosting can be fixed if u turn the speed down. But fixing it without loosing speed. know that is a tuff one
